I don't disagree, but her talent is not apparent in her clave work. Someone could have taken a few minutes to show her how to get a half decent sound out of them.
I'm a flight attendant and had the pleasure of having her and her husband, Harry, onboard our coast-to-coast flight. She was totally delightful to be around and everyone on the plane was mesmerized by her! She would've done a song and dance down the aisle if we asked her! Just loved her!! ❤
After seeing so many people perform in Hello Dolly, what stands out for me (in her performances) is the ability to totally be in the moment. Every performer thinks they have mastered this idea, but she actually proved it in every performance. Outstanding.
I was born and raised in NYC, but it wasn't until I lived in Indianapolis that I saw her in 'Hello Dolly' on stage. Needless to say she was the most wonderful performer. So glad I got to see her do it.
I wish the movie execs hadn't objected to her being in the "Hello Dolly" movie. Nothing against Streisand, but Carol was the woman who originated that role and could've done it better than anybody.
The thrill of my life was to see her do Hello Dolly on Broadway about 20 years ago when she revived it. Carol said she loved the NYC audience most. Rest in peace dear talented lady!
Exceptional performance!!! Carol Channing was so very electric and smooth simultaneously. There will never be another like her. And, she was funny. Lovely, genuine, and madly dedicated, may she always be remembered for, “lifting people’s lives!”
Saw Carol twice in my life. Once in the Early 60's at the World's Fair in Seattle, WA. And in San Francisco at a New Year's Eve Party in the 80's. Amazing!
I've been watching "Whose Line is it Anyway?" clips and Ryan Stiles does a Carol Channing impression. I looked her up because I didn't know who she was but heard she died. I see by this, she was very talented.
I remember her being on all the talk shows when I was a kid. She had the strangest way of speaking but I was always entertained by her. God rest her soul.
It was an affectation. She loses a lot of the cutesy behavior when she’s comfortable, but if she thought someone was mistaking her for stupid, she’d turn on the stupid or the really cutesy smiles. It was interesting. You have to see a lot of her talk show appearances to catch it. She did get more and more stream of consciousness as she got older, but stupid she was not.
This is awesome! Thanks for posting. I'm very interested in Carol Channing before "Hello, Dolly!" I love how she developed her entertainment chops through the years.
I’d always known who she was, but I’d never seen her perform until just a couple of days ago when I stumbled on some videos. Oh my, what talent!! I’m just now realizing how much I missed out on while she was living.
I didn't realize that she was so tall and such a cutie. I grew up with her doing stand-up and funny musical routines in a big blonde flip wig and over-the-top wardrobe, and exaggerated New York accent.
The song (a very sexy extended double entendre) and her performance are so "of another time" that it makes the whole experience especially magical. After holding so still, it's a big surprise when she and the music take off together at 3:40, 4:45, and 5:55. Her moves are so original and eccentric, they make me chuckle. She's naughty!
@@birdinyongo104 Well, everyone else knows that "part" means part and "half" means half lol Correcting someone just because you associate one word with a completely different word, doesn't make you right. Especially when both words aren't even synonyms of each other.
Like a previous vlogger said in 2019 or so : Carol Channing had a partially black father . She admitted this in latter life . Dinah Store was officially Jewish ,but was believed to have a black ancestor . When she was younger and had darker hair it seemed like this could be true but to my knowledge , she never publicly indicated this . However , there is no doubt about the talent of these two ladies .
@@tinabenyo8104 … it’s sad that at this present time you have to classify these two terrific American talents according to race. Carol Channing and Dinah Shore did not hide their ancestry. It just wasn’t something that was talked about in those days. Stop holding them up to your post-modern standards. Because it’s possible someone may turn on you and hold you up to their arbitrary standards and find you wanting!
The irony of two Hollywood stars both with "a touch of the tar brush" with one singing a Black Caribbean song isn't lost on me. Heh. Let me go watch Passing on Netflix in November.
Only for certain broadcasts/certain stations. Color didn't go truly national with color TV being sold widely till 1966. Color Me Barbra is one of the first broadcasts that had color everywhere.
It takes a huge personality and a great deal of confidence to pull off this song. You cannot take your eyes off her, she was so talented.

@@Jones-pj2jkWhat an absolutely stupid comment. 💯

Completely adorable. A bit of Lucy, a tiny hint of Marilyn, but all Carol.
Rest easy lovely lady 💝
This was EXTREMELY sexy... something special about intelligence and comedy that is just so attractive
She looks amazing in that dress! And she's very courageous. Great Lady!

Just one problem......she could not sing

What a born entertainer. What a jewel!

Rasberries!!! From 'Thoroughly Modern Millie' what could be better. The fabulous Carol Channing. Always brought a smile to the world!!😘
Absolutely, TMM would not have been the same with Carol Channing and "raspberries"!
You'll never get talent like that anymore!! RIP CAROL CHANNING!!
This is mesmerizing.
You are cute :)
This needs to be viewed more widely. This woman is a legend
One of a kind-- You made this world a better place. RIP

Omg tell about that party! Carol at that party, at that time, in SF of all places must have a huge story with it!
I've been watching "Whose Line is it Anyway?" clips and Ryan Stiles does a Carol Channing impression. I looked her up because I didn't know who she was but heard she died. I see by this, she was very talented.
X , That’s excellent that you did your homework because of genuine curiosity. Glad that you enjoy her performance! Carol Channing was a natural.
... now I understand why Carol could catch and keep the rhythm in them 'hips!! Get it, Mrs . Channing!!
We expect the old guard to eventually pass-away. But it still hurts when it happens.
OMG...have only heard this on her comedy record, but to see her do it live with all the amazing movements...LOL
RIP Carol, a beautiful lady. Deepest sympathy to your family and friends.
Never thought of the Grande Ms. Channing as sexy before- but she is in this clip. So is Dinah. R.I.P.
I remember her being on all the talk shows when I was a kid. She had the strangest way of speaking but I was always entertained by her. God rest her soul.

Absolutely electric. Rest in peace, you dear soul of the musical theater stage.
Those gowns! Totally elegant!
a true champ and very beautiful too, quite talented and we will miss her charms

Thanks so much for posting this. This was one of Carol's best numbers from Showgirl. Terrific!
Been a fan from the beginning... Loved her nightclub performances.
pretty risque for broadcast TV in 1961 !
She is still my favorite entertainer in the world. Thank you Carol Channing for your gift to us.
I didn't realize that she was so tall and such a cutie. I grew up with her doing stand-up and funny musical routines in a big blonde flip wig and over-the-top wardrobe, and exaggerated New York accent.
Never heard of Carol Channing before. But she was a really funny lady! And a good singer and performer!
God love her. She'll be missed.
Such amazing musicality on display here, from Carol and the band. Could have gone so wrong!!
Both these ladies were pure class and talent .Carol had a kind of Betty Hutton persona on stage and was I believe a lovely ,genuine person off stage.
She was a real entertainer.
She looks gorgeous in that dress.
She s my favorite actress ever!
Incredible performance. Great woman.
Well Hello Dolly..🤗 I will miss hearing you sing it.. RIP... 😔
Just too cute. This is the youngest I have ever seen her. Her dad was a biracial black man which explains her soulful sounding voice.
According to Dinah Shore's mom, Dinah's dad was black too.
and her rhythm
Carol is freakin amazing just loved her
One of a kind woman! Her personality, natural and talented ❤
Got to see her in "Hello Dolly" in Col. Oh in 1967, live! Great show!
BOTH amazing women for their time. Imagine the times they said were told NO and they said YES and did it!!
Such a tremendous entertainer! I loved her!
Pretty suggestive song for its time.
I remember her performing this on the Flip Wilson show in the '70's
How charming! What a doll.

So long, Dolly/We're going to miss you, Dolly...💔💋
The public didn't know back then that both Carol Channing and Dina Shore were both part black.
Not part, I equate that with being half. No, she was a quarter.

True colour TV in 1961. Amazing!
So talented and beautiful...
Adorable Ms Channing!
Memory eternal.
Love
you, Carol. You will be missed. You were sui generis.

"Those two ladles."
Carol, she was the only Dolly Levi. No one compared to her.!
One of a kind.
Don't ever recall seeing her this young.
Carol Channing, RIP.
Many of the comments are ridiculous. Can't you just admire her talent or move along if you can't manage that?
Wow! A great artist, she was!
Comedy and entertainment goddess
Carol was getting it!!!!
RIP great star!
Dressed like she is, I'd have given her "MUAHH" lessons :)
"Astronaut look" in 1961! I bet!
That was ... inspired! :)
Comedic timing genius 🥰 yes yes yes
She was A BORN DANCER. THE WAY SHE DANCES. YOU CAN TELL😊😊.. R.I.P Mrs. Carol Channing.
My apologies. I used to think she was Tatum aunty.
Yes I noticed that too. My Lord she moved so well! It's like she's fooling everyone with her goofiness and then she can really sing and really dance!
I wish I could dance like her..
Goodbye, Dolly...💗
Carol Channing she just a icon.
Carol is a great African-American hero.
Didn’t realize she was that tall
She was a solid 5'9".
I Always Knew her as the (The woman who arranges things) from Hello Dolly, She's one of a kind, a legend!
So talented
RIP Coral 🙏
You are true magic
Amazing :)
She was 40 years old at that time.
Brilliant
Sexy. Beautiful and talented. R.I.P
Rest in Peace 💘
RIP

whoa, this song is filthy!
🖤💎🖤💎🖤💎🖤💎🖤
Carol Channing was passing. She was black
Carol Channing is iconic.
What a wacky song!
I would not have guessed she was part Black.
this is news to me too
She's only a quarter black. Most AA's are 15-25% white.
If she claims it, it doesn't matter. And proud. Some people never claim it. I wish I could meet her.
Her father was black
He was moxed with Black, maybe that's why she came out so light with straight hair. But still love her.
And Dinah Shore was able to get the best stars…she was always gracious.
Some people have it and others don't. CC has it in spades.
Pretty weird and goofy- but I like it! She’s cute :)
There was color television in 1961?
Well damn. that hadn't occurred to me! lol

Dang she muscular
Carol is trying to get a word in but dynah won’t shut her trap
