as always, thank you for sharing your heart, insight, and wisdom 🩷 my parents grew up in l.a. and i was raised in west o.c. and adore los angeles and all of its culture, diversity, and messy beauty! i remember how it used to rain all winter too. you’re absolutely right about blame = harm and thank you for the list of legitimate volunteer/donation places 👍🏻 we will get through this… together 🩵

Jessica, thank you. We need a politics of care-taking now more than ever 🙏❤️ “blame is harm” yes - because the cruelty of those seeking to blame is intentionally designed to harm.

I’m from Manteca, in the San Joaquin Valley. Lived most of my life in California. I’ve lived on all three coasts. We currently live in New England. Let me say this: California has the NICEST people I’ve ever met. I’m serious. California ALWAYS helps everyone, else. It time for all of us to help California.

I donated to the California Community Foundation through my employer, Ford Motor Company. I believe we're (Ford Motor) sending vehicles as well.

I saw a firefighter on the news pointing his hose at a home, and the wind carrying the water away. The people doubting the effort and crying "incompetency" have obviously never witnessed the reality of a CA fire.
Thank you for reminding us of the community, the outpouring of aid and goodwill on the ground. It helps the ache to know that the good people will still rise to help one another. Stay safe ❤

Thank for this. I am between the Eaton and Palisades fire and so overwhelmed. They keep saying it wont reach us but Wednesday we had a fire in Studio city. Its out but I am still on edge. No electric for a whole week. It was brutal with my phone dying and no way to charge and possibly miss alerts and no way to contact my friends/family. So to then see posts like burn or get out there is no water is just horrifying.

Yesterday I asked my brother if anyone had heard from Wil Wheaton and we looked and we couldn't find anything current and then I asked my roommate when he came in my room and he said... I can't remember precisely I said he's in Arcadia and he was like where's that because in Florida we have this bunch of towns that seem to be named after cities in LA Pasadena Hollywood Glendale just most of them. And I said no in California and he said Oh Hollywood and I said no it's east of Pasadena which is south of altadena and he said Oh Hollywood. And then he went off on some rant and I was like No I don't care I don't want to hear it I'm looking for Wil. I'm trying to find Wil. (Not that I know him personally but he just popped into my head, And we had found some of his social media but it was a week old It was before, the newest was the sixth) But anyway he used to live in Pasadena. And I love Pasadena.
Anyway, my roommate went off and took a shower and didn't come back, which is good. He has his own room he can go in there and listen to his own never-ending spew of hatred that he seems to consume for some reason.
The weird thing is that if anyone asked him to help them with anything he would go and do it. He does it all the time. I don't understand, there's some sort of weird split somewhere. And it's all political. I miss the days when we were in church and the church didn't ever talk about politics at all. Except for that one time when Bill Clinton got elected and we got a sermon on how we should respect our leaders and the people in positions above us. I really needed the notes on that sermon back in 2016 and I never did find them. If you pay really close attention you'll find I've changed sides. But we all want the same things. We're all Americans. We help each other - most of the time. Like you said the other day when we see each other and we're not online we care about each other. I think we all want the same things we just don't always agree on how to get there. In any case I'm not blaming anyone. And yeah I'm worried because we had a drought last year and maybe the year before, in Florida. And three hurricanes which kind of helped and kind of destroyed things not perhaps as completely as it is there but there are areas around here and there are people who are stuck in bureaucratic hell and there are people who don't have any heat and right now it's 30 to 40° at night. And it's not as bad as in North Carolina but maybe in some places it is. It's flatter. Today my brother put up a fire map for Florida and we seem to be in one of the best places for not burning down. But we have finally had a really bad hurricane come through here and even then it probably wasn't as bad well where I live as some of the other horrific ones But it was worse Than any one we had ever had. And even then it didn't hit us directly. It just got a lot closer and the one 12 days before had flooded so many people's houses that their furniture was on the street their drywall was on the street and then the winds came. I am not going to say at least everything there just burned down and it's not floating in the street. I'm not going to say that. I try to never say anything that starts with the words at least. It is horrific in LA. People from Ukraine feel bad for you. Okay at least one.
So I'm not spreading blame and I kind of hope that some people from Florida will come out and help organize something because we do this a lot. Not go to other places but have disasters. We should know by now how to stage what comes after the disaster. As long as you don't have to deal with the bureaucracy... Bureaucracy is ridiculous. But that is a problem for another day. Hold on, help out, hug each other. You are doing good.
I don't know - Can you evacuate an entire city? It's an enormous city. County. Whatever. Even in Hawaii it was an island and it stopped when it hit the ocean. I'm not really clear if you have disaster planning I hope that if you don't you get some. I saw a girl on TH-cam who is a famous blind TH-camr talking about the disabled people and how they couldn't get out. She had a partner who was sighted, They had a car, and relatives in another state.
Remember Katrina? Nobody planned that in advance. Actually I think maybe they had planning meetings but they were only like what would we do if there was a situation like this? They weren't actual planning. I hear we had books of planning for COVID. For pandemics. And I'm going to stop before I blame someone for something.
We care about you and we are watching. I wouldn't be any help. But then again I can keep my mouth shut :-)
I went on vacation to LA back in 2003. The fires were around Griffith Park. I think. But they were out by the time I got there. Thankfully.
Many hugs from Florida. My roommate has refilled our freezer when the holidays came and meat was on sale. We lost a lot of food when the power went out. Well we lost all of it. But there was a lot of it here. So This year we need to rotate. Did you know that if you keep a can of pineapples or pineapple juice it will explode? I'm so glad I was not the one who had to wash it off the walls.
Remember to watch out for the people who don't know how to cry. Because they will explode if someone doesn't take care of them. I don't know what the signs are but someone must.
