I’ve owned 4 Mitsubishi Outlander/Outlander Sports since 2014. Awesome, trouble free cars. Zero factory defects in any of them. Over 200k miles with just routine maintenance. They aren’t fancy. Just basic reliable transportation. I averaged 23 to 27 mpg around town and 30 to 32 mpg highway consistently.

Such facts, 250,500 here and not a single mechanical problem. Only problem was the gas cap, and passenger window not going fully up early on, both of which covered under there 10 year warranty

Why so many in 7-8 years? I’d think you’d have them to 200k? Most good cars can go to 200k. I totally agree with you on the Outlander, its solid solid simple. Should last well beyond warranty.

Mitsubishi had a complete lineup of cars, sports cars, trucks, and crossovers, in full competition with Toyota and Nissan. Since 2000, I've asked when will Mitsubishi abandon the USA market like Isuzu and Suzuki.

I don't think they will leave. The Mirage has proven over its run to be a quality basic automobile with good fuel economy and far more longevity than it has any right to have. Consequently it has been a pretty consistent money maker for them as neither has it required anything more than bodywork and infotainment upgrades to stay current. I for one really like mine - while it is a little on the fragile side, it has been very well behaved and can take a lot of miles without flinching.

Much better than the Dynamic Shield that Mitsubishi is using now. Was thinking that the XFC could be based on the Juke but as it's a vehicle targeted at developing countries, I wouldn't be surprised if it's based on the lower-cost Nissan Magnite.

Let's be real though, Mitsubishi's true value is in the parts they supply to other auto makers. My Honda hybrid's power control unit is made by Mitsubishi electric, that's the brain of the whole system, so it's no small deal. I want Mitsubishi motors to be good, but realistically it's a side project for the larger Company

Instead of focusing on SUV’s, Mitsubishi should offer an affordable compact truck. Mitsubishi’s SUV would simply get lost in the gluttony of other SUV offerings, whereas, there’s very few compact trucks and ZERO with body on frame……they’ll likely sell more of these trucks than SUV’s.

It's crazy that in a world obsessed with SUV's and crossovers Mitsubishi barely has any offerings. The 3rd gen Montero back in the day was very popular in the US. What does Mitsubishi need here? A Mirage with four cylinder engines(I will never buy anything with a 3 cylinder engine), a new Lancer compact, Galant small midsize, a Diamante large midsize, a Triton midsize pickup, an Eclipse sports coupe, a Montero fullsize SUV, a midsize Montero Sport SUV, an Endeavor midsize crossover, and a Starion sports car(to challenge the Corvette). Also, bring back the Lancer Evolution. Mitsubishi needs to be a full line automaker again.

I'm just hoping to see Mitsubishi models transition to Nissan platforms, and give us cheap hybrids and PHEV options. That's how it will survive here. Some may be upset about Mitsubishi just being a reskinned Nissan, but it did great improvements for the Outlander. Especially on the inside. Sit in a 22 Eclipse Cross or Outlander Sport, and then compare to how much better the Nissan based Outlander is.

The sports cars they made were amazing and iconic, don’t get me wrong, but if Mitsubishi wants a comeback, they’re gonna have to go all in on SUVs and crossovers which undoubtedly is carrying a lot of brands financially nowadays. If they were to launch new cars aimed at enthusiasts, it is gonna be a MASSIVE flop since most of those people just say that they miss them and all, not about actually BUYING them. For example, back when Mitsubishi had the EVO and the Eclipse in their lineup, sales overall for the brand weren’t even that great, and the Eclipse and EVO did not help with that. Even with a smaller lineup as opposed to the diverse lineup they had a decade ago, Mitsubishi is selling a lot better now than 10 years ago. The market for sporty cars is unfortunately niche and isn’t profitable for any automaker. Maybe once Mitsubishi gets back on its feet, which they are in the process of doing so, then the idea of bringing back sporty models can be considered. Along with that, they also have Nissan as their partner so they can easily develop a model together like how Toyota and Subaru did with the GR86 and the BRZ. Perhaps Mitsubishi could make a model based of the Nissan Z and that can make for a good sports car model while also having saving costs.
I am confident that Mitsubishi will regain traction and become a major competitor in the market. For instance, the new Outlander is really good looking as well as having a PHEV option.
Mazda and Subaru are both small Japanese automakers and they managed to make find their place in the market. Mitsubishi will eventually have that space in the market as well.

Depends on which of the two is more dominant in that particular segment. While Mitsubishi gets the Outlander as a rebodied Rogue and a potential next gen Outlander Sport as a rebadged Qashqai, Nissan has a rebadged Xpander and is poised to have a rebadged Triton/Strada and Montero Sport as the next gen Navara and Terra, respectively.

I sold my 2018 outlander in august and bought a 2022 cx9. While the car was extremely reliable (almost had 45k, zero issues), it was very cheaply made, lack of dealer network was the main reason why I got rid of it. I like cars that sit high and don't consume lots of road/parking space (such as the Suzuki Jimny--that is not available--or my old Geo Tracker--that was a bit of a gas guzzler). I like the non-black interior and appreciate the lively and warm Chick Fil-A mustard accents. I would look hard at an XFC concept if it were plug in hybrid and could be really well equipped for under 50K. This would also be the perfect time for them to introduce a small pickup back into the market. There is obviously strong demand, and I suspect a small Mitsubishi truck could be extremely popular.

What I hope for the brand Stateside is they should bring back the Montero Sport to USA if they can't bring the upcoming Triton/L200 pickup (they are sold in Mexico), a redesigned Outlander Sport maybe based on the production version of that XFC concept, and a redesigned Mirage/Mirage G4 within the next three years. Lastly, they should focus on Electrification a bit more. About performance vehicles, i think if they'll ever do those again, it will most likely be electrified.

Mitsubishi was founded way longer than 30 years ago... even their automotive side started way back in 1917. Mitsubishi is far more than an automotive company though...

I had a 1990 Magna and at the end of its life the ceiling came down the centre console perished before the motor died at 250000 km . Never own a Mitsubishi again. I have seen a hylux with 400000 km and still going strong.

Mitsubishi needs to use the Altima and make a Galant without the CVT and 4000GT on the Nissan Z platform and it would sell & bring back excitement to the brand. Yes CUVs are popular but, it won’t make Mitsubishi stand out because theres a ton of CUVs out already!

I feel like they are going to go all out before they dip out. I see the new mid size SUV and it reminds me a little of a lexus. I think they should bring back the 3000GT or a variation to compete with all the others doing it big before internal combustion goes away.

I think if they'd made it a bit lower so it sat more like a Hyundai Ioniq5, they could have leaned into Mitsubishi's rally/WRX heritage.

Never been a fan of Mitsubishi in the past, I was die hard Honda back in the F&F days. Looking back they have some cool cars you know the usual. Now that I'm in my mid 30s I occasionally find my self looking for 1G/2G DSMs, Statrions etc. Recently I was looking for a small crossover hybrid AWD as a commuter, only a few results came up, I noticed this Outlander PHEV and didn't know what the heck it was compared the gas version, after researching the drivetrain and everything about it I was kinda geeking out over the specs, they had essentially a rav4 prime before it was even a thing at Toyota. I actually went and test drove a phev it was pretty nice. I didn't actually buy it but now I'm itching to test drive the new 2023, strongly considering buying one. Never thought I'd be interested In a Mitsubishi.
I hope their car business survives and gets back on track.
They can make some great EVs with their Mitsubishi electric arm of the company.
Also been geeking out over the Mirage hatch, it's basically a modern day Geo Metro which up until this model year you could get with a 5speed manual. $10-11k new a few years ago. They're about 16k now.

They were totally worth it for 10k (I know, I almost bought a new manual 2018 for only $9500 end of year) but cannot imagine 13k, or more. Great-car, but 16k approaches Toyotas and Hondas base models. Just not the right time to buy new cars.

You know while Mistu had a strong presence in enthusiast spaces I honestly have no idea how its perceived by the general market. For the person that knows the Outlander and not the Evo, what did they want out of Mistubisho

Nissan/Renault alliance. The new ASX is a rebadged Renault Captur. The Captur is a small SUV that sells reasonably well in the UK and is a common sight. Suzuki are alive and well in the UK and now sell their own versions of the Toyota RAV4 and Corolla Tourer ( Suzuki Swace ) as well as other models. Isuzu are also about in the UK with their pick ups ( another segment Mitsubishi are available in the UK with the Barbarian/Warrior I think )
