    Love how you care for Luna and look out for her health by keep her from getting overheated, preventing hypothermia, keep her paws from getting burnt on hot pavement, seatbelt. Thanks for caring for that sweet dog. Wish everyone would be that thoughtful with their furry friends!

    Suggestion: don’t keep things in front driver seat. Keep it open in case you need to drive away in the middle of the night. ❤️

    The youtube algorithm sent me here. Glad it did. Perfect setup for weekend to one week camping. No fancy cabinets or platforms to add weight to the vehicle. Easy to convert this to an everyday driver by taking the stuff out. Good mileage. No $110,000 class B RV and its attendant problems. Great job! This is the perfect setup for the "rest of us." Thank you and thumbs up!

    Love it! I have been traveling with my channel for a few years and recently upgraded into a van. A lot of people think that everything Hass to be all together from the beginning and something like this is actually perfect. I like that you can customize it and use it for your personal needs and you can always add or subtract items without having to feel the guilt of having spent a ton on a build. Safe travels!

  • @CDN1975
    @CDN1975 3 ปีที่แล้ว +85

    Be careful with having loose items like firewood, etc. In the event of a car accident they can become projectiles. My maternal instincts kick in watching you :). Be safe.

    • @citygirlunplugged
      @citygirlunplugged  3 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      Aww, you are so sweet ❤️ It was a bit hard to see, but the firewood was protected by the mattress which is upright to the top of the car when in drive mode. The way the mattress folds is the opposite way, so even with some force, it seems to keep things back. But that is a great tip as a reminder! Projectiles are scary!

    • @EatingWisdomwithDrKarin
      @EatingWisdomwithDrKarin 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Really enjoyed the video, but I got stuck each time I saw something that could become a projectile. Glad you take care of them. You are very conscientious, so I recommend you mentioning your protections. Not everyone realizes those things can be a problem. Thanks for your videos!

      @andreavin3674 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@citygirlunplugged I love your video and set up but I’d still consider ties. Stuff doesn’t always go flying straight across but at any angle. Even ties could snap on impact due to the force but still its a cheap and easy option. I love your car...I have an Outback and you have inspired me.

    • @dcs7077

      Drove a tow truck for years. Young gal driving down the road with a sewing machine on the back deck of her car. Semi stopped in the middle of the highway. Pick up in front of her swerved and she rear ended the semi at full speed. Sewing machine flew off the back deck and hit her in the back of the head and killed her instantly.

      Aww, yes! We've had terrible wildfires all over the state (and west coast) mostly because of humans 😕 I also live in a high fire risk area and have had to learn a lot about how to prevent fires.

    • @JenMarco
      @JenMarco 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, a campfire permit will stop a wildfire. Permits are just the government’s way of taking away your rights and making you buy them back.

    • @shanifridrich4997
      @shanifridrich4997 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@JenMarco obviously u don’t live in a tourist area where people have fires in areas where they shouldn’t and then you get evacuated because of such fire and your elderly parents house burns down because of such fire and firefighter dies because of such fire. Government makes such requirements because people do selfish stupid things

    I love when TH-cam's algorithm puts videos like yours in front of me. :) Thank you for sharing your cool set up. I've been surfing for tips. I have a Subaru Outback and will be doing my 4th trip from California to Michigan this summer (had to skip last year). I usually bring my little tent and stay at free camp spots, but it's time-consuming to set it up and take it down for one night in each spot along the way. This time I'm going to sleep in the car. I tried it out in the desert near Vegas for Thanksgiving Eve and it's doable. Woke up to a 27 degree morning, though! It was no fun climbing out of my warm sleeping bag. The news said upper 30s, which is still cold, but at least it's above freezing. My windows were coated with frost. ha!
    One thing I'd like to add for any solo-traveling woman reading this: Take a self-defense class. No matter what your age or physical condition, you have tools to use, but you need to learn how.

    I use a Skoda Yeti.
    The back seats are removable
    I have it basically as a no build
    Mohair blankets are light and very warm. You can vacuum pack them down to almost nothing.
    The only downside is they must be hand washed but this is not a lot of work
    If in Scotland mosquito netting does not work, the holes are too big
    Midge netting is required

    Thanks for sharing. I am struggling what I want to do for these kind of getaways. I currently use a 4X4 truck with a tonnue cover. Dont feel safe in the back. Considered a shell but never was comfortable in a shell before in winter. Good pop up campers are a year wait. So a SUV is better than a truck with a shell and warmer and safer for sure! I can store everything in an Suv similar to my truck but a little nicer. I am thinking Explorer or Tahoe but they are so expensive these days. I have a feeling I will do an SUV of some kind. Thanks

    As another female that opts to camp every other weekend alone I appreciate how you addressed the various aspects of solo camping. I have a similar set-up in my 2018 VW Teguan. In my Subaru Forester the seats went more flat so I could use the sleeping arrangements similar to yours. The Tiguan is much more uneven so I've built myself a very basic "platform" but it also provides me a little more storage underneath, and I find it a little warmer not being directly on the seats. You mentioned being at a free campsite. Do you often go on free land? I'm in Canada and I tend to use provincial parks and only recently started going to crown land. That's a very sweet sleeping arrangement you have with Luna. How sweet. :)

      Luna seems to be happy 🐕❤️ I try to camp free, which is sometimes tough in California. But I’m making it work so far. I always have a paid campground nearby as a backup, in case I don’t feel safe, or can’t stay at my original choices 👍

    Your videos are the best 'no build' videos I've seen! Have learned so much from them. I have a 2008 Toyota Highlander and I have everything I'll need but the window covers to try your example out . Now I know I can purchase the covers due to your informative SUV. I have a Standard Poodle -- I'm thinking there will be room for both of us if I set up similar to your method. One of the real benefits of your video is it can give us a chance to try out SUV camping with what we have to 'make do' before purchasing more expensive equipment in case we don't care for it.

    A 12V ELECTRIC BLANKET MIGHT HELP DURING WINTER CAMPING...BUT YOU'D NEED A SEPARATE POWER SOURCE LIKE A SOLAR GENERATOR TO NOT RUN YOUR GAS OR BATTERY DOWN ON YOUR JEEP... GREAT VIDEO THANKS FOR SHARING

    Thank you. Interesting set up. What do you do if you have to go to the bathroom at night? I always have to get up at least once and that would make me nervous to go ut in the dark.

      I usually try not to drink anything after dinner. This prevents me from waking up in the middle of the night.

    Have you tried using a Go Girl or She Wee? Then you can pee standing up and still clothed. And there is a compact toilet I've been seeing lately that is like 3" when closed up. If you use the plastic drawer sets you would have easier access to your items that you have in those 3 long bins. You're brave car camping in the cold. Stay safe dear!

      @citygirlunplugged  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      My setup is a work in progress. The bins were free and work for now. I have an emergency she wee, but I haven’t had to use it. I can find bathrooms most places, or I’m remote and I can squat, so not an issue for me.

      @@citygirlunplugged I have not tried my she wee. I'm sure it will feel very odd using it, lol. Yep, use what you have until you can get what you want, if you want something different. Love your checkered blanket! God bless you dear!

    LOL I had to rewind a few times to see if you said "hairspray" or "bear spray" 😂😂 I thought perhaps you kept your glam on while camping. I wish I lived your life. I'm not an outdoor person but I love to watch your videos and how connected you are to the outdoors. Great video 🥰🥰

    Good vid but I wanted to see how you get in and out of the bed area. I suppose it's only from the rear and you have to crawl in and out. As an old guy, I'm not sure how easy that would be in Grand Cherokee lol.

      This was my issue as well. You can climb in and out of the back, but how do you close and open the hatch if it's not automatic (mine's not). I think the rear door is the only option.

    How fun! Just binge watching. Not brave enough yet. Want to take my 2002 Sequoia to the coast . Would I need to remove any of the two back seat rows?

    Hi Courtney, thanks so much for this. Can you please tell me how you get in and out of the vehicle when the back hatch is closed. Do you climb in through the passenger side rear door? These conversion videos are always shown with the back hatch up, but mine can't be opened and closed from the inside, and climbing in through the passenger door doesn't look easy. I'll also be travelling with my dog so the seat extender is a great idea. Thank you so much!

      I can get in from any side, or from the front seat. I would just recommend you try getting in from the different sides and find what works best for you.

    Looks so snuggly and fun. What is it with being in the cold? As long as you have lots of blankets and you can get hunkered down all warm and cozy, it’s all good. I love that! Your set up is great. Be safe out there!

    Omg I have the same blanket and also I have a 2019 Jeep Compass. I’ve subscribed to your channel so I can get ideas on how to camp more comfortably in my Jeep 🥰😍 I wish my back seats went down that flush. Mine are wayyy more slanted. I’m thinking if I built something that bridges the gap between the back seats and the front seats I could potentially lay comfortably. As I am 6 feet tall so it’s a little cramped. Anyway thanks for sharing 😜 odd that my seats don’t go as flush because you just said you have a compass also. Hmmm lol 🤷‍♂️ also your Jeep is beautiful. Mine is the sport tbh but I love it so much. I’ve put 77k miles on it in 2 years and it’s hands down the best suv I’ve ever driven.

    Hello! I have that exact same vehicle except mine is black. My year is 2018. I'm in the process of building a sleeping platform because the back area is uneven. I see you have a trifold mattress but do you notice the unevenness? Does it effect your sleep? While in drive mode, is your driver's seat pulled foward to the max?Also, it looks like you have some type of rubber cover in truck area. Did that come with the vehicle? My trunk area just has carpet. Thanks for sharing!
