    Mixing a little spar urethane in your oil will make it tougher.

    Awesome no BS how to. Love the m77’s and had the same issue with my 1977 model. I too had to cut over an inch off the LOP.

    A cut down version of this would work nicely as a TH-cam short! 😎

    I modified the stock on a M77 257R I had, slimmed the forend, grip, removed all checkering, squared off the forend, got rid of a lot of thickness along the sides. Full bedded it action and barrel, put rosewood forend tip similar to Weatherby wood stocks plus a rosewood grip cap. No staining of wood, left natural and finished with spar varnish. I just wanted a slimmer feeling rifle. Traded it off a little later for a R700 Mtn rifle in 7-08.

    How does the matte finnished stock end up when wet. Do you expect much swelling?

    Do you see the same issue with plastic stocks? Namely the Ruger American? As far as not removing the raised end of the stock?

    Great video mate did you sand over the checkering? Do you find the checkering still has a grippy feel

      @fhckoutdoors  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I didn’t sand over the checkering. But it could do with a going over with a checkering cutter.

    Did you install and tighten the receiver screw when glass bedding? You skipped over it on the video, or did you just hand press the action into the stock and wait for the epoxy to set?

    Have you ever tried jb weld as a bedding? Way stronger than resins.

      Not personally, but I have heard of people doing it.

    Vx3l basically means you’re going to smack the fuck out of your thumb

      I assume you mean by working the bolt? I use the palm of my hand, not finger and thumb, which is the correct way.

    Don't know why anyone beds these M77's. The diagonal receiver screw tightened 8 out of 10 times will make it accurate.

    • @fhckoutdoors
      @fhckoutdoors  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is correct to an extent, but wood can be compressed so it needs pillars to have a constant place to tighten down to. These rifles were both pillar and glass bedded.

      I tried tightening the crap out of the diagonal screw and it didn't help. Probably 3" at 100 yards. I'm hoping mine isn't one of the bad barrels Ruger was known for with the original M77s.
