I'm salivating. my favorite car of all time. I grew up in the 80s and my father drove a Mercedes diesel sedan. I always wanted one of these and I may have to purchase one.
I can explain why your AC is so good and it IS luck! Back in the day when R12 was the refrigerant of choice, it used to work way better than the stuff we have today. My dad used to have an old Mustang with 40k original miles on her and she still had her original AC coolant! It was so cold that it froze the vents, no exaggeration. Some people say they could get snow to come out under certain circumstances. Just think, in order to have that the system had to have no leaks whatsoever up until now. Over time eventually they will all be gone. To have the original coolant is super rare and makes a car MUCH more valuable/desirable!
Sorry to keep commenting. But I love the freeway clips in the end. I mean a must have. We all drive 80-85. I must say that 380 is pretty relaxed at 85 compared to a diesel of that era I guess the rear end is geared different
Ummm, you meant to say semi clear, right? Lol. I love your cars! They truly are beautiful. When i get enough money to splurged on something for myself, I'm definitely looking you up.
BIIL, YOUR VOICE TOMBER SHOULD BE REGISTERD AS IT IS HIGHLY SUITABLE FOR RADIO OR THE VOICE INDUSTRY. YES, AND YOU DO HAVE SOME MARVELOUSLY KEPT MOTOR VEVICLES TOO!!!
Gosh. I low key missed ur voice. 😅😅 “wounded Germans, birds spying on you scratching a Philippe Patek 😂😂etc “. Ur quotes I always look forward hearing u sound them.
Love the review. You always teach me a lot of good history with the cars. Also love the vocabulary that you use to describe the cars features. Keep on being real you always are entertaining and informative. Have a great day day. I’m finally living in Florida again nice to be back vs life in Nee Jersey. Take care.
I recently sold my 1985 380SL after owning it for almost 30 years. This video made me miss it! One of the finest cars ever built, without a doubt! Thanks, Bill!
Hey man I recently bought a 1986 Model of the same, hardtop.. it's needs a rebuild though, Was hoping if we could connect with regards to the car. Let me know
LOL here in Jacksonville I'd say it was closer to 500%, and up to about 700% on the drive home from work, that sort of humidity where you have to use your windshield wipers to get the condensation off the glass because the windows are fogging up on the outside! Thank God, and Willis Carrier, for AC!
Terry Beavan I’m from Chicago and I never knew things like this happened with the humidity lol. I’ve visited Florida a few times so guess I shouldn’t be surprised
I grew up with these also; a friend had a 380 slc; pleasure to drive, loved the rounded hood and the round head lights and US bumpers are just sexier IMO than the euro model-this one is gorgeous, great color also.
HAH, always the most pleasant, happy, "Good morning!" that I would love to have as a start to my day...then of course the expected report on how awful the non-Winter Florida weather. But honestly, the "Good Morning" is always a cheer up as are the fantastic cars.....PS, I never understand the reference to Canadians.
Bill, we here in Maine had a more humid summer than usual, for me personally it was miserable, I will take a Maine winter over Florida's summer anytime! Sounds miserable out there.
Thanks for introducing flip flops to Dublin they made it down to Florida and I've been wearing then ever since. I was pretty sure I invented them but...
Bill, love your style! You are a funny guy and I can understand your exasperation with FL weather! Your videos are great and you make us laugh. God bless you for that because we all need a laugh today!
My wife's uncle has a either it's a 420 or 560, can't remember which, he keeps it pretty well, not driven a lot, is always contemplating selling it, making a bit of profit. I do prefer the Euro exterior treatment over the chunkier look of the US models but that's just personal preference. Still a nice car for what it is, someone's going to get a really nice example on BaT.
4th to comment!! never had THAT happen before! clicking like before watching the video, as always, because Bill is ALWAYS very entertaining and has the best car reviews on YT!
I have a question regarding the black box in the front passenger side of the engine bay. Is that the fuse box for 1981 model of this car? I have an '83 and the fuse panel is built into the side wall on the passenger side.
...........I absolutely love these cars, a beautifully designed car that more than stands up even with today newer cars. I agree with you regarding the bumpers so you won't get any flack from me regarding those. I would love to own one of these but unfortunately, my pension won't allow it. Hmmmmph!!!. Anyone out there willing to support me with maintaining this beautiful icon would be great. :)
American 4 pot headlights and those ugly bumpers spoil the look of this lovely car. The vehicle was designed to carry the European accoutrements and looks so much better without the US bolt ons!
The American bumpers are better, you have a place to keep your drink at tailgate parties. besides the euro bumpers are always bent and look flimsy. the euro headlights though are great...
Personally I always felt the rectangular driving lamps beneath the front bumpers were not as complimentary to the overall design of the car as the round driving lamps were during the 1970's.
Here in Canada, the needles in the tack, clock, speedometer, etc. were orange. Over time, they tend to fade to yellow. I notice the clock and tack have orange needles. That suggests those are replaced with new units. Just a thought. The oil pressure gauge needs to be replaced or the engine needs new gaskets.
Second. Hey there. Greetings from Poland. Big fan of Yours :) lately fall and winter aren't that bad so.. :) great SL though! I'd prefer R129 but, this is as bad as 129 series.
Iconic Benz, Bill is right, they were all over the place. The 'Orange' is okay. It adds to the vintage look, especially with the brown soft top. If I got it it would be re sprayed burgundy or dark green & replace the soft op to tan. I'm already over my quota tho.
Never mind the humidity, the area where you live is beautiful. Although I’m in Europe, the R107 looks best in US specification, (waiting for the comeback in the comments), the four headlamps especially, the Euro headlamps are really bland
bill, come up here to the north for a week and enjoy the cold weather. and review a huge SUV while you're here haha. or buy one it and take it back with you. no goats and no humidity.
For the love of God, can someone please tell me why the end of these videos lately are all a quiet 10 seconds of cruising? This SL, the diesel Ford...?
I've always loved these. They are great modern classics that haven't gotten too expensive yet. I've never seen this color
This is the car I lusted for in the 1980’s.
I seriously beautiful museum quality 1981 Roadster in unbelievable showroom as new condition thanks so much for today's excellent presentation Bill 👍🙂

Agreed, R12 will freeze your nether regions
I am a total Merc guy myself. Hi from the UK, I love these cars
Looks like the car from Hart to Hart. Beautiful car, great video!
"This is Mrs H she's Geeoregeeousssssssss!"
@@barryroach1980 What a terrific lady. By the way, my name is Max. I take care of them, which ain't easy, 'cause their hobby is murder.
Bobby Ewing at Dallas also hat a SL
@@27zacmaklea35 I think they should have investigated the mysterious drowning of Natalie Wood, apparently Jonathan Heart refused the case!!!! Oops!
@@Rick2010100 and a similar hairstyle to Stefanie Powers!
If you’ve ever driven an SL you can almost smell the excellent interior and feel the perfect engineering of this car! I really need one of these!
Love that car and your history lessons. Buried the speedometer at the end haha.
Just going into work at 10pm and already its a great night because Bill is here to pick up the nite and make it worth the while!!!!!!

Yes, the freeway clips kick ass. High speed driving is epic.
Yes ,you figured it out a gas engine is more relax then a Diesel with half of the power
ulflei try 30 less dickie
Ummm, you meant to say semi clear, right? Lol. I love your cars! They truly are beautiful. When i get enough money to splurged on something for myself, I'm definitely looking you up.
Thank you for not talking about your undergarments.

Those cars were everywhere in South Florida in the early 80’s , “THE” car for the upper crust of society in those days, very special..👌
I can confirm 300% humidity this morning
LOL here in Jacksonville I'd say it was closer to 500%, and up to about 700% on the drive home from work, that sort of humidity where you have to use your windshield wipers to get the condensation off the glass because the windows are fogging up on the outside! The American specification is so much more tantalising and appealing those headlamps and the bumpers are legendary
And the Inca red. God I love the color palette of MB back then
Beautiful, beautiful car. Thank you for the fluid and communicative video. I laughed at the one arm comment. I was beginning to think the same.
My grandparents had twin 380sl’s the nostalgia is real.
Bill, we here in Maine had a more humid summer than usual, for me personally it was miserable, I will take a Maine winter over Florida's summer anytime! Sounds miserable out there.
Wonderful that it still has the aluminum wiper blade holders instead of the full replacement ones that are chunky and black on the alum arms.
Thanks for introducing flip flops to Dublin they made it down to Florida and I've been wearing then ever since. I was pretty sure I invented them but...
A true example of a well maintained Benz. Beautiful car !
I actually prefer the US headlights, with the European bumpers. Great video. I am planning on visiting the shop some day.
You are so funny the way you described the weather in Florida. Well, move to Wisconsin, it could be below 10 in winter.
On the west coast we call these Malibu Beach Chevys or Beverly Hills shopping carts.
Doubt it...
Bill, love your style! You are a funny guy and I can understand your exasperation with FL weather! Your videos are great and you make us laugh. God bless you for that because we all need a laugh today!
Lovely chrome wiper arms. Don't see that today.
My favorite classic car from the 80s
My wife's uncle has a either it's a 420 or 560, can't remember which, he keeps it pretty well, not driven a lot, is always contemplating selling it, making a bit of profit. If I lived closer i'd drive over and buy it right now. ( Canadian :) )
Love that colour ( or color for U.S.. spelling haha)
Thanks for the post

Another great car and best vlog... Bill is busier than a one armed videographer...👍🏻

You crack me up🤣🤣, love your channel!
Lol to the golf cart comment. That's why I love watching your content.
this car is beautiful good to hear from you bill
Had a white 1985 380SL just like this! Nice car
Bill at his best...describing a classic MB
Superb review Bill
Great looking cars..just get better with time.
That can drive fast wow stunning
Nice car, love the color
"... they're'll be cockroaches and MB-Tex left." Nailed it.
Nice convertible
Holy crap, those US boltons never cease to eyesore.
Beautiful SL...
Those bumpers bring me out in boils, but I think its best to keep classic cars as god intended, I like everything original.
Lovely and all very proper you are the best bill
Incredible automotive resource
I have a question regarding the black box in the front passenger side of the engine bay. Is that the fuse box for 1981 model of this car? I have an '83 and the fuse panel is built into the side wall on the passenger side.
Compared to American and Japanese cars of 1981, this thing is a jewel. The Germans were MILES ahead back then.
The American 4 headlights and the thick bumpers looks a lot better than the Euro versions for sure.
Agree!👍👍👍

Who else could listen to Bill all day?
I'm from Europe and I really like the US version bumpers :)
....also , how difficult is it to put that top on???? I'd love to have seen that in the vlog...
Gorgeous!
Very nice!
We're birds of a feather, dawg. Love these gens of MB. Sorry bout the birds reference, Bill. Thank fuck you're keeping this stuff going.
I had a black 560SL back in 1988, my first of many MB's.. I should have never sold that car.....
American 4 pot headlights and those ugly bumpers spoil the look of this lovely car. The vehicle was designed to carry the European accoutrements and looks so much better without the US bolt ons!

Bobby Ewing? Ewing 1 anyone?
Paulie Gualtieri meeee tooo. Bad ass
Linda Carter in Wonder Woman Diana Prince had one

You are brilliant, knowledgeable and funny. Do you have any Citroen’s like the DS or SM? I’m a Citroen fan from New Zealand
Those huge US bumpers actually look quite nice. I love it when Americans speak German, "duuur pannnser wagon". :)
8:40 my understanding is you can replace the single chain with a double. I wouldn't settle for anything less.
Bill are you guys still open off Terrance Ave?
It’s beautiful in NJ
Stunning
Second. Hey there. Greetings from Poland. Big fan of Yours :) lately fall and winter aren't that bad so.. :) great SL though! I'd prefer R129 but, this is as bad as 129 series.
Saw a similar car on an episode of in the heat of the night, pretty red color
Need to buy the euro spec bumpers
Makes the car much prettier
Need to have an extra $ 3000.00
Flip-flops, remember when we called them thongs?!
Thongs since mid 80s are ridiculous underwear, LOL

Does anyone know how well this car drives in snow? Looking to buy one but I’m weary bc of this reason.
Wouldn't even try. If you buy this car, then be sure to have a beater for the bad months.
Nice !
bill, come up here to the north for a week and enjoy the cold weather. and review a huge SUV while you're here haha. or buy one it and take it back with you. no goats and no humidity.
NICE car.....Inca red?
I wonder what my Peruvian friends think of that!
@Ultraman's IR A Native American designed the WA Redskins logo. Back then it was about a representation.
Cannot get onto your site, it is showing that it’s Corrupted. Would love to find the price of this car
Beautyfull car
For the love of God, can someone please tell me why the end of these videos lately are all a quiet 10 seconds of cruising? This SL, the diesel Ford...?
Totally on board with the US bumpers and lights! Every euro looks like they have twisted bumpers. They always look like they have been hit
What do you mean twisted
Вступление с рассказа про климат Флориды просто топ
I have a 1980 and I love it, but man the thing is a pain in my ass.
Bill, are you back with Auto Haus Naples? Why market a car for them on the Auto Europa Naples channel? Just curious.
Your website has exactly the same color 1980 450SL, what are the chances? 🧐
We like the history lessons!!!!!
