"The enemy is getting stomped so hard that it makes our teammates look good." ( 9:00 ish ) This quote is so perfect and it explains so much.
5:22 I struggle with this. I keep getting antsy that nothing is happening, so I make risky rotations and flanks to try and force something to happen.
i'll watch myself do this while i'm doing it and know it's the wrong decision, but it feels better than doing "nothing" and it almost never works out in my favor lmao.
Another classic a10 banger. HIGH QUALITY MOVIE LEVEL EDITING. INSANE. much love a10
one of the greatest minds in gaming imo
literally
Just the rule of sticking to corners and waiting for mistakes while being fine for doing nothing is great. It makes my matches much more enjoyable and much easier to observe the situation.
I know this video is from a year ago, but I just went through a tough time in ranked, I gave into these tiny mistakes and actively blamed matchmaking and my teammates for mistakes that I inadvertently made, I went through the entire playlist and was actively able to get into a better mindset and better play style through these many videos, corners, space and all the other things from these videos have helped me in recent casual games, inviting these informations and fundamentals such as neutral, ally and enemy space, or open space, resource usage etc. have helped me signifcantly in understanding how to play the game, even though some games do get lost I learn with each and every one of these losses and try to better myself. So really really BIG thank you for publishing these information packed and well made videos out on the internet for us plebs to see and improve our gameplay with each and every game we play.
I can't say this enough, I am so incredibly grateful for having found your content.
I have played shooters for several years now, and I love them. I have always struggled with them though and I've had to claw my way to being slightly above average.
I come from a sports background and in every sport I've learned there has been a set of fundamentals that one can develop that are the building blocks of being a good player in a particular game. This is made the path to being good at any particular sport fairly straightforward.
I've always known that my inability to excel at first person shooters had less to do with my potential and more to do with wasted effort and a lack of understanding of the fundamentals of the game.
Corners/Cover vs. Open space and Resources are the little pieces of information that I have been lacking.
Like, obviously I had the concept of cover, and an awareness around my cooldowns, but framing it all together into a set of things that are actually kinetic, simple, and sensible is going to elevate my game in all the shooters I play.
The 'good positioning' that I have been trying to reify in-game is just a conscientious push/pull, where you push to take an enemy corner when you have a resource advantage, and fall back to a previous corner when you are down resources so that the enemy team must cross open space to reengage you.
That is as simple as 'play is at first' or 'three point shots have higher expected value'. I can SEE that.
8:50 The same thing happens in every game, even in chess. If you look at a chess speedrun people say all the time "those 1200s dont play like my 1200s. They're so bad. Even I could win that game." imo its a combination of two things:
when you play patiently and don't make a mistake for long enough, eventually someone will do something stupid. Either because they got impatient, or because their natural playstyle and habits will present an opportunity that they did not think was punishable. This makes them look like a feeder by comparison
the second thing is is being able to notice and punish mistakes better than someone of a lower rating. in that chess example, the people in chat say they would have won that game, but the reality is they would not have identified nearly as many weaknesses, and they would have presented quite a few of them on their own.
in chess they say it's all about consistency and habits. OW is the exact same imo.
your Zarya guides in OW 1 were awesome (and somehow still come in clutch for OW2), glad to see you going strong!
I have to say I'm very impressed with your approach, I watched and took note from one of your other vid, and noticed an almost instant improvement, but still lapse back to old habits especially when I get flustered. I think I might look at coaching later down the line. as I'm still new to ow and FPS in general.
just watch the videos again 5Head. In all seriousness repetition is actually really effective for educational content like this.
@@treyvonervin745 i watch most of these new A10 videos about once a month. i know everything he's said, but i don't always apply it. it never hurts to be reminded of the fundamentals.
This is one of my biggest issues with OW, is that these fundamental and core concepts to improving at and understanding the game are never taught to you directly. You pick up on the concepts after playing for a while, but they are never stated directly. I’ve been playing for 6 years and only recently I learned through TH-camrs such as A10 the concepts of space, corners, and resources to win games. I think if these were taught through some tutorial it would give newer players a better leg up in not feeding or trashing others. In death match games like COD it’s simply more kills= win. Not necessarily true in Overwatch
An absolute gem of a human. Giving selflessly to everyone. Much love A10. I sincerely wish you the best in your overwatch and personal life
I happen to stumble upon one of your older videos talking about corners and such and I’ve been using it a lot lately and today I hit GM for the first time on support. Anyway I just want to say keep up the good work and thankyou for the educational content!
Getting in the habit of pinging enemies definitely helped me coordinate more with teammates and I’m finding myself winning more games as of late
absolute banger video! youre a really good at explaining these concepts.
In OW1 your content helped me to go from Silver to Diamond on Tank!
im looking forward to have a coachingsession with you
I love how supportive and patient you are
I love A10’s content
A10 i try to spread the word about your content everywhere!!! These videos are free SR for anyone who watches them. The way you clearly and simply explain some of the most complicated topics in Overwatch is amazing!!! Truly the best. Truly deserves all the views and I hope others find you. Amazing amazing educational content. I’ve gone up 2 whole divisions since I started watching LAST MONTH! Thank you for your vids!!
Hi A10. I had my best realization tonight that game flow can pretty accurately be likened to the flow of a river. The amount of resources available can be visualized as pressure from a river; the more resources the enemy has, the greater the force of the river, and the greater danger we are in. The less resources they have, the lesser the force of the river. Having game sense is being able to constantly measure the game river.
Thank you! I learn something new with every video.
I have not played League of Legends in years but the sound of Lunar Eclipse Leona reminded me of past times. Thank you!
Bro this is one of the most well done, well-edited videos you've made to date! Super clean man!! 👏🙌🤘
I love you i went from high diamond to top 500 at tank all beacuse you helpwd me ❤️
Man, hands down your'e one of my favorite creators. Not Ow related, but do you have any book recomendations? Ilove your mindset.
could this be the reason why i always have the most damage, heal or kills but also nearly every game the most deaths? great video really helped me to see the game in like a 2D way and break it down a bit, Thanks
2:38 "Mundo goes where he pleases"
Thank you. I'm an OW2 newbie. This content is gold. Subbed. Hopefully, I'll hire your coach services, but I want yo keep getting hands-on experience first. I'm from México so idk if that'll be a problem with the connections and stuff, so yeah! Anyhow! Thx for the content
Sadly as someone remarked in a game last night - “I just wanna have fun with a silly video game”. While F2P was necessary for the games survival, it’s led to a sea of “idc” types who play like zombies.
This is a certified A10 banger
Love the educational videos A10, pls keep it up.
this video is so well done, GJ !
Hey A10! Im new to OW started on release and am already on masters 1 dps because of your videos thanks man.
I like the legends of runeterra art in your thumbnail, fan of the game and your content
Anyone know the game or trailer the girl with the headphones at 0:03 is from? I swear the frame triggered a core memory but I have no idea where I saw it before :(
A10 your videos helped me more than paid coaching
Good luck on your coaching gig bro, I recommend thumbtack (assuming ur in the US) since fiverr is too saturated. I would recommend ur coaching to players who are too busy to try and learn the game using youtube video tutorials although they are sufficient, having a coach similar to other sports is still a better and much more efficient.
hey A10 awesome video as always, love the more psychologic stuff your last vids are into
btw are u thinking about doing some merchs ? i would definitely buy some
Something that is now holding me back is the question: why do i even want to rank up?
I’m gonna be brutally honest here. And I know it’s from a lack of understanding, I’m still on the path to improvement and I can only keep learning. That being said…
This game is entirely dependent on the tank. If my tank sucks, there’s no space for me as DPS to really work with. I don’t want to rely on my team, but sometimes it’s outright unavoidable. I don’t know what I’m supposed to do.
It’s very hard to visualize these concepts for me, mostly because there’s a lack of examples. I have watched other videos on your channel, including earlier ones, and a lot of things seem magical. The tank is doing their job and not going for risky plays, just claiming space and letting the DPS find a spot to attack where the enemy team isn’t looking at them. When I do this, I let the tank engage, I claim space, but suddenly the team ignores the tank and comes after me, and the tank dies in the fight anyways. Or, the tank dies for rushing in and I can’t work with the space.
There’s a lot I have to learn. But the way I see it, if the tank dies from one mistake or another, the ENTIRE team cannot do much since the enemy tank can just grab space for free.
Hey A10! your educational u2gm and other improvement made me able to climb from silver 1 to gold 5! thanks A10 maybe one day i will reach plat
whats your rank now
@@kuramat-t6256 gold 1
update: plat 4
@@GFTtungsten w
What to even say about this? Stunning way to put it & soooo clear.
Thanks a10. You did a great job explaining on this video quickly and precisely 😊
you make badass high quality OW videos, bro
This requires a good amount of gamesense to be able to do... But sometimes you can be the one who baits enemies into making a mistake by making a calculated overextension, and then falling back to your team so the enemy chases you. I do this sometimes as Ana, enemies will chase me when I'm half hp, thinking they can confirm the elimination... But I'm actually just luring them into our backline so the team can chew them up like wolves :)
This man is basically teaching a class about ow and I’m for it
one of my favorite overwatch content creators bro ur so underrated
amazing content!
Very cool video! As a new player I think some in-game examples of some of the concepts would have been very helpful but apart from that it was great!
Keep up this content quality and you'll be the top OW channel in no time. Amazing stuff. Sharing it with friends.
The video we all needed
A10, you're awesome! Keep it up!
how can I apply these tips to kiriko or mercy gameplay? (kiriko priority please!)
Don't waste suzu
Much love ❤
My favorite OW youtube channel
Damn this made a lot of sense
I’m starting to have a good understanding of space, but I’m not sure how well I can apply it on hanzo
Top tier editing 👏
when overwatch falls off one day i hope this guy takes up a new focus because this skillset is invaluble
Quick question; Not forcing fights and waiting for someone to make a mistake (5:45) What if no one makes a mistake? What does a perfect game of Overwatch look like then? Say all player on each team LOS (don't peek) waiting for someone else to make a mistake.. I guess defenders would always win? Soo.. A perfect game of Overwatch would always end in a draw
Sports analogy here:
1. No game is perfect. Mistakes can and will be made. Some forced, some unforced. The higher level of competition, the smaller the mistakes may be and so the windows are smaller to punish them. But they are there.
2. In a stalemate, it's typically the team on the offensive that has to make something happen. So they'll have to start taking riskier plays to try and break the impasse.
This happens when your team is losing late in a game. You HAVE to make something happen, so you HAVE to take more risks. Conversely, if you are the team in the lead you may play safer so that you don't risk giving the enemy an opening to exploit and come back.
Sometimes you may do everything correctly, but the opponent makes a big play to shift advantage. Maybe a sniper lands a great shot and takes out your support. Now the dynamics of the upcoming teamfight have shifted. Etc etc
The conditions change as the match changes. Being behind early isn't the same as being behind late.
Seeing these windows, knowing advantage and disadvantage, knowing relative risk level of a play... all these things are what make up your "game awareness" for the sport you are playing. Some players excel at this, some don't. But it's definitely something everybody can work to improve.
that doesnt happen and wont happen. ever
If anyone wants to know, the cinematic is Infiltration
these videos are so good dude
amazing edits
Nice legends of Runeterra art!
I knew I had a fundamental misunderstanding of the game given my consistent mediocre results being stuck in mid elos it was rule number 2 I either tried to force the issue to gain an advantage to take space but this is the wrong approach. I also need to look around to assess teammates and resources to know when to back up to a safe corner or full reset.
the flow and transition in your videos are really really good. mind bendingly good. Mmmmm
Does this all also apply to a tank because I thought they had to soak and mitigate damage
I love playing Zenny because I orb the target who's the most valuable target in team fight or needs to be push down
Teammate: Moira why aren’t you healing???!?!?!
Me: A10 told me to stop healing my teammates
*proceeds to go full dps moira*
The reason why the smurf is usually on the other team is because of odds and math. If you are not a Smurf than you have 4 chances to get a Smurf while the other team has 5 chances. So in 20 games you’ve had 80 chances to get a Smurf and the enemy team has had 100. 20 more chances than you. Those odds get even worse for groups. It’s a small chance difference but those chances even out over time. If you are a Smurf however you get a smurf on your team 100% of the time and you still get 4 chances for another.
Such a good video!
dude mind fucking blown
We love A10
What's the league cutscene from lol
mundo goes where he pleases
You said "so will the enemy", but it was the only sentence without subtitles so I had to rewatch it a few times. General feedback: please make the subtitles for the most important things you say
Bro is basically just copying and pasting their videos at this point.
My team on attack love to stand in open space at a choke point to shoot and carry on taking dmg to waste my healing resource when most of the team are respawning 🙄 I would be out of heal by the time we push ffs. And then team on defence often make pointless over extend into enemy spawn for the at extra kill end up getting them or the team killed when we have advantage of the point to begin with
6:11 chazm on junkrat???
And now with life weaver you can literally control your teammates XD
Wat to do if enemy dont make erros.
This game only makes sense to me when I'm stoned. I've had some amazing games while stoned.
dude yes! like I was just steam rolling when stoned. like I believe its because I'm more relaxed and looking at whats happening. when I'm sober my heart rate goes up and I lose focus
Holy shit your subscriber count exploded
I think the new editing style has definitely contributed to that!
is it possible to climb solo queing
Yes
Noone ever used fancy tactics in every climb video. They just win everythimg by pure mechanical skill advantage.
You make great videos
THE EDITING!!!
That thumbnail tho 😳
fr
I tried using this guide on Genji and it didn't work, but then I used it on Orisa and carried the whole game.
Solid
Okay so how do I influence my widow who is 1/14 to get off widow because she's making the game a 4v5? Or my Junkrat who keeps dying to Pharah and won't swap?
Get over it and que next or get off
Liked before the video even started during the unskippable ads
i want a a10 body pillow
How do I do it?
good edit
how do i do it?
Kinda glad you changed the thumbnail etc, it wasn't too catchy. I still started watching (had to stop but now continued). The thumbnail didn't feel ow related so I was even wondering if it's an ow related video at first. I think having something in your thumbnail that is catchy and still ow related.
I can read the text at 3:25 lol
Can’t do that with bronze players and I’m trying to carry brain dead people and getting 60+ kills per game still can get out of Bronze for some reason and it says better than 100% of players in this rank idk what I’m doing wrong
You bring up some good points but honestly I don't think you should hold back from going into more detail on some things.
Watch any of his Unranked to GM videos. Goes into incredible detail
So, as a bronze support, I should poke more and healbot less? This is essentially my takeaway from it lol.
Yes, it is. If you're solely concerned with healing allies without attempting to deal damage to enemies, you're effectively trying to patch holes in a ship that's going to sink anyway. Admit that your allies are bad shots and bad hero choices (take Junk vs Pharah...bruh. Might work in skilled hands, but Bronze is not the case). By only healing them, you're only delaying their imminent demise with no possible impact from them. Instead, try to deal 60% damage and 40% heal, or even 80% damage and 20% heal, prioritising the elimination of enemy support heroes who keep you alive with the same poor DPS as yours, but who shoot and think maybe a little better. Try to master Kiriko, Zen and Bap, who can carry with their damage, and also try to actively outmanoeuvre your opponents from behind and crossfire, which will split the focus of the enemies on two fronts and can increase your chances of winning a fight or a match in particular. If you like Ana, then throw your nade at enemies for anti-healing rather than your allies and also don't use hip shoot at long range if you have bad aim. When you use a scope, the healing projectiles will automatically target an allied target within the radius of the V-shaped triangle in the centre of the scope and damage will only be done on the enemy in the centre of the normal crosshair (dot, circle, etc).
And lastly. Sometimes the healbot mindset is not a bad one at these ranks. If you are playing Mercy, try to determine in the first two minutes if there is a smurf/booster or just a good player on your team that you should prioritise to heal or boost. This can be determined by his frags or increasing damage on hitscan heroes in the player table (doing damage on a tank for this rank is a positive call in a way. It means that your ally knows how to hit at least a tank and you can work with that. Some people can't even hit a tank at point-blank range), which allows them to use their ultimates much more often. If your DPS or tank is bad in terms of damage and frags, then take this situation into your own hands. Remember that your hands should first destroy the support heroes that keep your opponents alive, and then the enemy DPS and tank. There are exceptions to this sequence, and if the enemy has a sniper like Widowmaker, the primary focus should be on the sniper, otherwise you will become the priority target. Even on Bronze, Widowmaker/Ashe/Hanzo can sometimes hit you in the head and it are a good target for them. Keep that in mind
@gigachadpique daaamn. This was over a year ago but thanks! I'm gold DPS/Support nowadays but have mostly stopped playing. I did started climbing fast af when I started doing more damage than anything else. Some people got mad at me if I did not heal enough, which I get, but after finding a good balance, I climbed.
