Thank you for the great performance and inspiration! This music is my soul - gentle, dark, and melancholic. I’m now just a guitar beginner, but I swear to god one day - maybe 10 years or 15 years - I’ll be able to play it fluently with lute. Inshallah.
I do hope I get around to more soon. Corona kind messed up my plans for more videos for a short while. I had problems with my left arm and I changed jobs, moved town and had no way to shoot video. MIght have the money for my own camera soon though.
trust me, its even better performed live late at night around a campfire as we found out last night :). However, this version is also amazing! You are truly a master of the instrument!
Wow this is sick man. Very welled played. Just got to this point in the game where Geralt meets Pricilla and she performs this. Just love it. The Witcher 3 game has great music, so fitting and so damn good. And now it’s made me wanna by a lute and learn this, I mean I play guitar but.. People need to hear this, I’m gonna share and subscribe!😎💪🏼🤩
I've got a guitar tab of the song as well. It hasn't got any of the variations of this tab, but it's an accurate notation of what the lute plays in the original song.
@@hauptmannfloete1106 I would love to check out the tab!! Think of a little metal variation of some music from The Witcher.. Sorry for late reply I totaly forget. Hope you are doing well and keep on pushing forward.
I only play the guitar, but am interested in playing the lute and your video finally convinced me! Where is the best way to start looking to buy one? :-)
Sorry for taking a while! I bought mine from Thomann, otherwise Roosebeck sells Lutes that are affordable. If you have the money, you should probably invest in one handmade by a luthier. My recommendation would be Dieter Schossig.
@@hauptmannfloete1106 Thanks for your incredibly quick reply! It sounds amazing,, I hope it'll return sometime soon so I can learn your arrangements on it :>
This sounds so great. I have the exact same lute! Do u have any tabs for the song? I’ve been searching for ages but can not find it anywhere, thank you :)
I'm actually not quite sure. I will probably switch to Aqula strings in the future since my singing string broke and I have to replace it. Only Aquila has sufficiently light gauges for my lute. It's kind of a lightweight, soft instrument.
@@hauptmannfloete1106 I bought one of these Thomann Lutes a couple of months ago and I found the action very light. I also have to say that it is the only lute that I have played in my life.
@@CercleBruggeFan The action is light, and the string gauges are very light. I went to a luthier when my high g string broke, and he advised me to buy aquila or just get nylon string in 0,40 or 0,45 mm strength from the fishing store.
after watching this i begin searching for lute in malaysia... there is none and later found the one that need import from USA... and it cost 3k in malaysia money..... that was expensive... and it is not even good grade lute... saw a high grade lute it cost 13k.... guess i will stick with violin for now.... f.y.i my violin is the cheapest in the market cost me 100 only.😅... hooe i can get my hand on lute someday and begin my practice and debut with it.
@@hauptmannfloete1106 or if I don’t have a string that can be tuned that low, could I play it in a higher key or something? My lute arrives later this month so I’m just learning.
If may I give you little advice, you can increase a clarity of the sound with original lute technique. You use the guitar technique, but better sound of the lute requires lute technique.
Not necessarily. I find nothing here in his performance to vouch for what your claiming. The guitar and the lute are not from different planets but share the same family of DNA. Yes they are unique unto themselves, but like siblings are sometimes overlapping in personality traits and willingly and nicely share.
It's easy to hear where lute technique would help, the performance here is good, but using guitar technique, it's too easy to "overplay" the lute. You can hear the buzzing on the low bass notes and some dull response from not attacking the middle register with appropriate technique. Again, the performance is good, but it sounds more like a guitar than a renaissance lute to me in terms of style and finger tone.
This tablature is really messed up for lute tablature, its not italian or french tablature; did this man put lute in guitar tablature? I shudder to think of that travesty
Something doesn't seem right. Boings. As a stringed instrument player myself those boings drive me through a wall if it's happening when I'm playing. You're more tolerant than I. Well played! The buzzing boings mean something with the instrument's setup needs attention or care.
Lute strings are typically tuned to very low tension, making it necessary to use appropriate "lute technique" in the right hand to not make it buzz. He's using right hand guitar technique, which is probably why the low notes buzz. When I started learning baroque lute, it was so hard to not make the bass strings buzz or accidentally damp them, it's super easy to overplay a lute.
You bet it is. Especially when you restring it - you have to fiddle the strings into the tuning peg box, preferably tie a not with the nylon/nylgut strengs around the tuning peg, tune it up, retune the thing for about 1-2 weeks until the strings finally settle. Don't apply too much pressure on the peg or it might just snap. I bend the strings a lot to help them settle but I find that you still have to fiddle around with peg soap and being gentle while letting them settle in.
Lovely playing on a beautiful instrument!
Thank you so much for taking the time out of your day to see my arrangement! I'm flattered to receive praise by such a virtuous musician.
They are not useless but an adaptation. The original is composed on a lute
