    To answer how BattleEye caught Artmoney and doesn't catch proper cheats: It's simply due to proper cheats being designed to avoid being caught.

      That was my immediate thought. Single player mod/cheat programs aren't worried about evading detection because they don't need to. Cheats for competitive/online games are designed to be hard to detect specifically to avoid anti cheat software.

    • @OutlawLotus
      @OutlawLotus 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If that’s the case, given the number of tools available on Nexus (a rather ubiquitous site at this point) to mod the myriad of soulsborne and other harder-to-mod games out there, either those tools aren’t actual cheats OR someone at Bungie/BattleEye isn’t doing their job.

      Which also ties in to the kernel level anti-cheat issue, so many people hate kernel level anti-cheats, yet there are very few practical ways to fight cheats that run on the kernel without using kernel level anti-cheat

    People have been banned for having ArtMoney/CE running since Destiny 2 was launched (yes, even before BattlEye, Destiny 2 has always had an integrated anticheat routine that can detect those softwares, but not other cheats that have been developped after the integrated anticheat was discovered and analyzed by the cheat makers, hence why Bungie turned to Battleye, too).
    I think by now thousands of players have been banned for those softwares alone, they are not going to make exceptions now...

    • @xxJagMasterGxx
      @xxJagMasterGxx 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +23

      Exactly! It's not something new, or even unique to Destiny. Other games have banned players for using ArtMoney for years: Apex, Fortnite, and Warzone to name a few.
      Does it suck that he was banned? Yeah
      Should he be unbanned. No
      Not only has it been known before this to result in bans, so he should have played it safer. But if Bungie were to unban him it would be showing favoritism due to his status of being a content creator. This would would be unfair to the others who were banned for the same thing, and would compound the idea that some players hold that Bungie only listens to content creators.

    Also, just wanted to comment. It DOES seem trivial to ban a guy who loves destiny and NOT the ACTUAL cheaters but here's the thing: he got caught. Whether he was using it or not, he had the software that was capable of cheating and the d2 security team caught him. Prolly cause he's a nice guy and not trying to hide! Meanwhile, the ACTUAL cheaters are trying to cover their tracks as best they can so they DONT get caught. I think anyways. I dunno. But that makes sense in my head. And perma-Banning IS a little too harsh. A month long ban maybe or just give him a warning and unban him.

      I think the response Bungie would say to this if they did respond would be that they can't have it just not allow you to play the game when it detects something because cheaters/cheat-makers could use this to test if their cheats get flagged or not, and they could essentially do trial and error with their cheats until it allows them into the game, which would then mean they've got passed the anti-cheat. You could say with the current system that they could just get a new account when they get banned, but hardware and IP bans make it harder for them to do that.

    • @john_titor1
      @john_titor1 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    Values in memory editors can be much more than just currency. Movement speed, weapon stats, ammo count all fall under values that can be modified if they are kept on the client side. Client side memory hacking is the foundation of many cheat programs. Its the real deal, not a "little program".
    Edit: For clarity I'm not sayin the dude did it or not, just saying that memory hacks are literally how people change values in games like this. So while not "aim botting" in a game like destiny if the gun stats are stored client side, you could increase how sticky head shots are for each weapon that you have equipped. If they are stored host side, then you have to get more creative.

    • @matchstick21
      @matchstick21 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Ok so yes, that is how hacks work in singleplayer games. However, in most multiplayer shooters, there is a server replaying the actions of the player. Even if you hacked your local client, the server wouldn't have those hacked values for your client and it would be replaying your actions w/o the stat modifications. You'd essentially just be desyncing yourself from the server. Money likewise is entirely stored in the database/server, and the numbers you see are just representations of what's on the server. Nothing you do or see locally can magically change the server. In that respect, it technically is a "little program."
      Source: Lots of time spent listening and talking to netcoding devs and my own hobby work. It is possible the game is coded in such a way that's hacking could affect the server (either weird complexity which I wouldn't rule Destiny out of, or it's just poorly coded), but the industry standard of having a server essentially eliminates cheats/hacks that modify stats, and as I understand Destiny PvP does use a server, at least for PvP.

      So memory editing works BUT only for abilities and movement, which is why you see a lot more cheaters with infinite supers than you see with infinite heavy ammo.
      That still doesn't excuse this ban or any ban similar to this since the program Cruz uses isn't designed to edit Destiny 2 files specifically, so it shouldn't be flagged as a cheat for the game in the first place.

    I've used software like this, I've used this one as well. Its basically cheat engine, which for those who don't know allows you to edit memory registry in games sorta like a trainer/wemod. If you know the registry value (and the value isn't obfuscated/encrypted) you can manipulate it like giving yourself unlimited ammo on certain games, or cash.
    Its a very dated software, it by no means is an aimbot, wall hacks, or anything related to destiny. It might be possible to edit weapon ammo with it (if that data isn't stored server side) or bungie doesn't encrypt that data but that would be entry level programming. If you could use this software to edit in game ammo than that is extremely poor on Bungies part. Its stupid easy to encrypt this data, which constantly changes.
    Every time the game boots it could use the CPU's built in random number generator to generate a key, than constantly change that value each time ammo is used so even if you managed to figure out the value it would be a completely new value the next time a weapon was used.
    For all we know this program could have been closed, but still running in the background in the task bar tray ...

      Cellphones for the past 5-6 years have all been encrypted by default from the factory, it is not taxing on anything remotely new, and if it's not remotely new it's not capable of supporting the software dependencies need to play Destiny 2.

    I remember cheatengine had you search for hexcodes freeze em, then get another amount of whatever you were trying to manipulate, search again to narrow down which of the innital ones were changed then freeze the ones that changed. Repeat those steps once more, for the exact amount. Finally that let you edit what that value was and force it to stay at that value in game. For instance if the value you were trying to change was ammo, you could have a gun with 30 rounds, Search for 30 in CE, freeze the set of values that came up with 30, shoot once in game, search for 29 in CE, and repeat the search now with 29 as the vaule, out of the innital values frozen/marked at 30, one of those will now be 29. that will be the vaule you can set to w/e you want, could even set it to 1 ammo and freeze it so even though it doesnt show your gun going into unattainable limits you would have infinite shots (At 1 ammo) in game.

    the problem with memory-editor is, it's also a memory-scanner,
    which means, it has to pull data from other program, in order to know where to make a edit.
    and cheats like wall-hack is also based on memory-scan, as they also must know the data to work.
    to the anti-cheats, it only knows that a program trying to scan the game's data, they don't(and can't) know what the program does with the scan result.
    or say, to the anti-cheats, artmoney or wall-hack could look exactly the same, by allowing memory-scan potentially would allow many cheats to happen.
    thus anti-cheats just don't allow memory-scan.(with a few exceptions like dev-tools, which are also huge loopholes for cheats to take)

    About that thing...reporting cheaters, and think they are still running without problems.
    Bannings cheaters often goes in waves. To make the creators of the cheats pulling strings.
    If the creator of a cheater tests his cheat and gets banned instant..he can search, and try again. He tries again he doesn't get banned, he fixed the detection issue.
    By making the ban waves irregular, ik makes for the creators very hard to figure out what is that makes their cheating software detectable.

    artmoney simply doesn’t work for server sided games at all, i used to use something similar called ‘game guardian’ on mobile and it worked for every offline game but any single game that connects to online-it simply doesn’t work
    i do think bungie with their TOS is valid to ban them for running a cheat engine, even though the cheat engine wouldn’t work at all for destiny or any online game
    i feel like for this specific situation, he should be unbanned but bungie does have the justification needed to not do so

Moderating his every live data stream with a fine-comb. Bungie did not say what cheating program was detected, it was Cruz, so it could have been anything.

    Love this guy. Don't play D2 anymore but this is accurate. Plausibility always exists, though it's always possible that non intended programs can fall into a potential threat for even the "laziest" anti cheat. I commonly use file injection software for work and due to the nature of the program, it has been picked up by various styles of anti cheat although has absolutely no use in cheating in games none the less online games. I don't think this guy intended to alter his D2 experiences in anyway with a meh value search program

    Here's the issue with "just don't keep stuff on your computer ..." many people, especially college students or those new to IT/Cybersecurity industry have applications for forensics, network monitoring, security, and all that (Heck I have a ton of SANS apps and AI apps loaded) have a single computer. Just by how intrusive Anti-cheat is becoming just having those are now becoming SUS or a violation. Sure don't run them while gaming but if you have them installed and NOT running how is that a violation? Does Anti-Cheat NOT violate privacy rights? What about how anti-cheat is now looking not only at running memory and installed apps but also able to identify and determine credential tokens and what URLs you are visiting while gaming and determine if you are even watching a movie. There needs to be a defined line of what anti-cheat is allowed to look at; needs to stay within the games sandbox. But more and more devs are just making their TOS to be all inclusive and screw the gamers/consumers rights.

    Bungie being overly cautious is how a security team works. Cheats are literally disguised as other software so bungie banning for Artmoney accidentally being on is just a stupid choice for Cruz to "accidentally" have left on. Long story short, people might be mad at Bungie, but its Cruz's fault for not taking extra precautions and trying to use social media to blame bungie for literally doing their job.

    the reason why people still tend to see cheaters despite there being anti cheat is because bans are typically done in waves (not always for more common programs)
    pirate software went over this in a video and it's pretty interesting.
    the summary is basically, doing bans in waves hurt the guys who sell cheats a lot more because it causes people to do charge backs for the cheats they bought all at once, which screws them over financially.

TOS are built to be iron clad and at the end of the day companies have the right to fully enforce . Harsh ? Absolutely. Im jus gonna say this: If youre cheatring in an online multiplayer game FOR PROFIT, youre a scumbag and should be in prison. However, Bungie banning anyone for modding or cheating in a game that is NOT Destiny, is revealing in that it clearly shows this person was in Bungies crosshairs for a long time, and Bungie was essentially salivating for any reason to justify taking down their target.
    There can be anything running in the background on PC's for the simple fact that Destiny isnt the only game gamers play (Shocker I know), Nor is it the only thing PEOPLE do on their PC's... and any normal individual(s) working in the gaming industry would logically take that into consideration ESPECIALLY when that Software has Not a F'n thing to do with Destiny.
    But this is what happens when yall D-Ride Bungie throwing "Massive W's" in every thread on everything they post or do. At some point youd think youd look in the mirror and realize yalls contribution to Bungie's massive disconnection from the player base... or even most times, Reality.

  • @lucaseaston
    @lucaseaston 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I think Bungies anti cheat software should warn you if you have a background program running that could result in a ban.
    On opening D2 you get a popup "D2 anti cheat has detected ArtMoney, this application may result in a permanent ban"
    This would eliminate the I accidentally left it running argument. Leaving them free to hand out bans with no potential false positives.
    I'm a game developer programmer, I use software that could be used for similar things for work. I would be devastated to cop a ban cause I innocently left something running in the background.

  • @Sumowning
    @Sumowning 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I haven't played Destiny in a while, but what bothers about this is that:
    He was not found to having USED the program to cheat, it was just found running whilst he was playing.
    There's no evidence he used it on Destiny, just that he had a VERY low-level cheating program active.
    These types of low-level cheats aren't meant to be competitive cheat, they're not there to conceal themselves which is why a VERY BAD anti-cheat like BattleEye could pick it up.
    It doesn't even hide itself, because it's used for single player games where it's not needed to hide. There's no deception involved.
    I make modpacks for friends for Lethal Company, to test out my pack I use a mod that gives me infinite money to go to planets and gives me invincibility and a testroom for debugging.
    Would that then be considered a cheat for Destiny? No. It's not meant for that, and they know that.
    My point is, there's no evidence of him using it, it makes no sense of him using it, and yet there's plenty of actual cheaters out there going about aimbotting and hacking that don't get caught, this is so pointless to stick behind TOS, BUT DID HE CHEAT?! No. Then what's the problem? If the anti-cheat would shut Destiny down, sure. but banning.. Nah.

  • @RaeneYT
    @RaeneYT 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I mean I can't blame Bungie for banning him but it really do just be just setting an example. It's like walking through TSA with an unloaded Glock in your waistband, completely forgetting it was there. Simply having it, loaded or not, in your waistband, will get you in a fucked position. The excuse of forgetting or it being harmless will never cut it. Punishment will need to be handed out otherwise it'll be taken advantage of. Just remember if you're using full on memory editing and debugging cheats, they are significantly different from the vast vast majority of modding you understand like Steam Workshop or most of NexusMods/Thunderstore. Especially if the software is not a single target software and can be applied to anything, there'll literally be no such thing as a false positive for a ban since its existence alone while Destiny 2 is open will be registered as cheating. Anti-cheat can't detect if it works with Destiny 2, only what it is and what it can do (at least in regards to this type of software).

  • @G3m1n1MTNs
    @G3m1n1MTNs 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Seems pretty simple to me. Close your "offline" cheat tools prior to running Destiny 2 and Battleye won't detect them. How is Battleye supposed to know that the cheat tool was for another game and not Destiny 2? If Bungie allowed everyone a single "oops I forgot to close it!" excuse to get out of a ban, how long would it take for someone to say "but I deserve ONE MORE chance!" and then another, and another, and another?

  • @Island_Dragoon
    @Island_Dragoon 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Honestly, Bungie is trash for this either way. You have a blanket slate for any "cheat" software and if his claim is legit, then a PERMABAN is just way over the top. If he's not innocent, then he's not, and that's that. Bungie is TRASH because like TH-cam's poor algorithm, it's either not catching people actually cheating on a constant basis in Destiny, or it flags small programs that oh, they're on, but they're not doing anything at all. You can't blanket ban people, that doesn't fix anything and it's counterproductive when there's daily videos of "Cheaters in Trials" for years.
