I love this new format, Cory. There's something about the ambient noise of birds, loud though they may be sometimes, against the backdrop of swaying bamboos and clean, quiet streets of Japan is very soothing. Gorgeous views all around, especially the sunsets. Sunsets are always glorious all over the world, but there's something about the sunsets and moonrises in Japan that is very moody and melancholic...in a good way. This video almost makes me miss the loud cawing of those ubiquitous crows...almost! Looking forward to more vids like these. Thanks, Cory. Take care!
Thanks! I'm still feeling out a few things with this new style. I'll probably do more talking next time. Still contemplating if I should even add any music, like a quiet piano or something. Not sure. Maybe it depends on the scene. But so far, the raw scenes with real sounds are pretty nice. Glad you enjoyed it! ^^
@@CoryMay81 Oh, that would be nice! A combination of montage and monologue is great. That said, I hope all that editing won't be too much work for you though. Cory May dons his cinematographer hat....! But kidding aside, well done. I especially like the framing of 3:39 / 11:48 / 16:37 For years (before leaving for the freelance life) I was a director of photography for a travel magazine. Those shots of the quotidian neighborhood moments help inform the reader/viewer of what ordinary life is like in a locale. Yes. Beautiful temples and gardens and Geisha make for nice images but taken alone would make it seem like Japan is a cultural Disneyland. Do you use this camera when you do your walks or are they filmed only using GoPro?
LOL I used to take more cinematic shots like this before, but I always added music and stuff on top. And over time, I didn't like that. Seemed to detract from the amazing natural ambient sounds of the beautiful places I had visited. So I'm still experimenting right now and will see where this takes me. That's for the compliments on framing. My walking videos used to be GoPro but then I got the DJI Osmo Action. It's OK, but I think I'll save up for a GoPro in the future. I've used this camera, a middle-level Lumix G85, since 2017. With just the kit lens. LOL I wish I had more money to invest in better lenses and/or a camera body upgrade. I've used it for previous vlogs, like this one from Vietnam, for example: th-cam.com/video/2dKTLCv__ds/w-d-xo.html You can see in that video the style was different, but some of the scenes were pretty chill. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Great video! I don't know what 7-11 does to that karaage but YUM!!! I was totally addicted. LOL I can't wait to get back and be able to take walks like I did my last visit. Everyone asked me when I went last November to Tokyo, what did I do. I did a couple of touristy places but my favorite time was walking around the neighborhoods. Encountering little shrines that popped out of nowhere, folks living their daily lives. It was just so peaceful and since I was traveling solo, I could just meander.
Yeah, I wonder what their specific recipe is. As far as I know, they receive it frozen and premade from off-site, and then they deep fry it on-site. And I agree, exploring without a tour group or guide is one of the best ways to get to know and experience any country! You end up feeling what it's like to be a normal person living in that location. Thank you for watching and commenting! Happy Holidays!

Suburban areas around the world interest me, because that's where most people live. There's gotta be something in your town, eh? I also live in suburbia. But the deeper I look, the more I see. ^^
Great video. Have you thought of doing voice over work there in Japan? Apparently it pays very, very well. There is an American voice actor in Tokyo, Peter Von Gomm, he has a YT channel and is a friend of Only in Japan host John Daub. He might be able to help with finding an agent, gigs etc. You could make a demo reel with a few clips of your vids. When tourists are allowed back there may be a doubling of job opportunities for those that have the connections are ready to jump in and run. Cheers.
Thanks! I have thought about it, since I did some voice work in Vietnam before, for an English education company. Some of it was kind of acting, but the rest of it was more narration type of stuff. I don't have any connections here in Japan for that kind of work. Most of the people I know are photographers only. Thanks for the suggestion!
@@CoryMay81 Well, as weak as my connection to Peter Von Gomm is if you are interested in cold contacting him his email is: peter @ peter von gomm . com. ,no spaces. His web site lists a lot of his work. As you are already part of the voice actor community I think he might spare a few minutes to discuss voice actor work in Japan and maybe divulge some tips and tricks. Oh yeah, he loves motorcycles and coffee.
Hi, is it convenient to get from your place to Tokyo (specifically Tamachi - Tokyo). I'm going to japan this year and my company only have 1 office-day a week, so I'm thinking rent an apartment in Chiba
Maybe it's possible. The Ueno-Tokyo Line goes all the way to Shinagawa Station, but you'd have to get off at either Shimbashi or Shinagawa and take a local train to Tamachi station. The rapid train down there comes every 20 mins I think. And it would take about 30 to 40 mins to reach Shinagawa. An alternative area would be Funabashi or Ichikawa which also has lines that go directly into Tokyo.
I'm not really sure, I'll have to check it out tomorrow and see if there is a sign that says the age. Most temples will have a sign on their oldest trees. My guess is 400 years, but who knows. hehehe
There were people in the video. Most of them are at work or indoors somewhere. Matsudo is kind of a satellite city for Tokyo with about 500,000 people living here. Many people commute into Tokyo for work. I used to do that as well, until the pandemic situation happened, so now I work from home.
Hey Cory, love the vid! You got some great shots! I've subscribed! I recently uploaded a cinematic travel video myself. Would be great if you could check it out :)

@@CoryMay81 It got me to sleep which is a testament to the relaxing power of this video. Thanks! 😁
14:06 that view during sunset is very Relaxing
btw is that mt.Fuji in left corner?
It sure is! That view is from my apartment building. (not my apartment unit, but a viewing area in the hallway just outside my apartment)
14:02 that shot is just, Amazing. Mind if i use it for my wallpaper?
Sure, go ahead! ^^
And here I am in milquetoast suburbia
Suburban areas around the world interest me, because that's where most people live.
There's gotta be something in your town, eh? I also live in suburbia. But the deeper I look, the more I see. ^^
@@CoryMay81The only redeemable quality I can think of for my area is the nature which is nice to walk in
Great video.
He looks almost _exactly_ like this dude in a dream I had last night (he was so handsome too). The dream was really weird tho!
That's a really weird coincidence to see my face in this video the day after that dream. lol
Wow
heyy i was born here but left asap
I always spill drinks on my chin. 😆
We've got holes in our lower lip! hehehe
Thanks for watching!
Cory May: 🤣 I also swig the same way you do.
1:27....How old is that tree?
I'm not really sure, I'll have to check it out tomorrow and see if there is a sign that says the age. Most temples will have a sign on their oldest trees. My guess is 400 years, but who knows. hehehe
@@CoryMay81 No matter....it's beautiful!
Let’s hook bro... i’m living in Shin matsudo
Why are people so rarely seen there
There were people in the video.
Would be great if you could check it out :)
japan's life is better than korea's it. right??
Both countries are great to live in and both countries have their pros & cons.
I think it's up to the person on which place they'd rather choose to live in. ^^
