The main appeal for me with Uoma Beauty is that it was Black woman owned. Now that it's not, I don't feel compelled to buy from them anymore. 🤷🏾♀️ Good luck to them, tho.
Finally a black creator talking about this. I stocked up on their stuff when I found out. The brand can find it’s way back to its roots in the future. I won’t count them out entirely. See what happened with the re-birth of Fashion Fair cosmetics. They’re the OG black owned makeup brand. I just wish she handled this situation the way they did.
Between a lot of the products from their main brand being on clearance at TJ Maxx and Ipsy last year and the Walmart line being on heavy rollback (the products were marked down to $2) before being removed from the store it was clear stuff was going down. It's a shame the brand wasn't making enough money to cover the production costs. I love their products and still have some I bought on clearance last year. Glad I stocked up on the eye pencils and lip products. Those Walmart blushes were so pigmented!!! You need to look into what's going on with Mented because a lot of their products are unavailable currently and previously a lot of their stuff was on clearance at QVC.
Sadly I feel like when brands in general get sold or bought out they aren’t the same anymore. The quality and customer service take a major hit and they are never the same as they were. From my own experiences.
Uoma launched in Ulta. Not Wal-Mart. The products in Wal-Mart were an off shoot of the original line at affordable pricing. But Uoma itself was mid-range and the foundation retailed in the $30+ range. They got big because of their foundation launch because they launched two foundation collections based on skin type.
Not Uoma anddd Mented! 2 of the few brands that make a variety of neutral lipsticks for POC 😭 has anyone checked on Propa Beauty lately? I hope they are still ok.
omg ive been thinking about Propa Beauty too! they haven't launched anything new in years and keep doing massive sales! the last time a brand did that (Kailav) they soon closed down :( Propa is such an amazing brand and I really really hope they stay 😢 I had been wanting to try Mented too but saw their website was down for the time being :((
I remember when Walmart started reducing the prices of the foundation, then putting all of the products in their clearance area in the makeup department. I bought my first product of hers that was a really good eyebrow pencil and gel, which of course I cannot restock so I use as my backup now. And we only have one Ulta that carries her brand here in town. Yes, find out what is going on with Mented. I was a sorta ambassador but I noticed things were always out of stock on the website so I couldn’t say go to their site. I literally had to drive across town to the only Ulta that had the concealers so I wouldn’t run out. And it was obvious I was one of the few that was buying it. Other Ultas the associates were clueless about it when I found the end caps. And now you can’t buy anything on their website and it’s in the Last Chance section of one of our Ultas but always full price. They have good stuff. I wish that the Black beauty brands would communicate better with their customers because it makes those non-regulars and even the regulars wary about other new ones coming out.
Sad to hear about the former owners health problems, hope she is able to get better without the stress of running 2 cosmetic lines. Also a bummer cuz, their Walmart line was a really nice drugstore line, cute eyeshadow quads, cream blush and cream bronzer/contour and one of the only lip stain products that fades evenly on my sensitive, dry, often flaky lips, I liked it as much or better than my Romand stain ( one of the best regarded K-beauty brands for lip products).
So for Black History Month I was doing a video highlighting black owned brands and I knew the Sharon C lines was available at Walmart in Canada. Tell me why when I got there everything was on clearance and it was really heartbreaking because those eyeshadow pallets that I did end up picking up were so good the lipstick colours look so beautiful, so it’s really disappointing that the brand wasn’t able to stay a float and it’s no longer black owned and this is the first time I’m hearing about that
so the former owner didnt respond to customer complaints, but once the company gets sold she miraculously remembered her log in information? she abandoned the company and then wants to get up in arms about someone trying to "save" it? that part rubbed me the wrong way. i bought their products based off of your reviews and i did love the concealer and lipsticks.
Chile, I fell Out with their customer service on my very first order because the contour stick was too dark for me. They weren’t available at stores and I was given such a hard time. Not surprised they didn’t last. I told them karma would strike!
I don’t understand why she would not know about the sale of her company, regardless of her stepping down for personal reasons. She created this brand, and so for her not know is very surprising. 😮
I mean the business world is shady. Depending on the extent of her buyout she really might have been in the dark with certain aspects of the sale if not all
@@LP-ct9nk it looks like someone (her fellow colleagues/friends) would’ve told her; you are right about the business world. Thanks for your insight, let’s hope she is able to challenge the sale. If she does she better be ready to give an account of everything! I also hope her health has improved.
I'm a business owner myself and I believe she doesn't have any equity left hence her not knowing it was sold. Doesn't sound like she's a shareholder anymore
These BOMB brands sell to these mass (yt) companies and those companies run their hardworked brands into the ground. Uoma makes my favorite affordable foundation and concealer.
Uoma launched in Ulta then after a few years came out with a more affordable line that was sold in Walmart but I haven’t seen them in Walmart anymore. They are still in Ulta with no sale on anything 😂 they might be getting rid of the more affordable version.
Juicy Jas did a video recently where she hauled products from JC Penney and got a few things from the UOMA section there. The company that bought it over said they are getting rid of the affordable version.
Dang. The foundation from the Walmart line is my fall/spring go to. Perfect color match, gave your skin skin but better and semi matte. Also love the eyebrow dual pen. Last forever and the gel sets my brows and never runs. Guess I better stock up on those two.
Oh bye! Once she walked away by stepping down it was no longer hers to care about. Challenging the sale is pointless and I doubt she has the funds to take them on legally 🙄
What a shame, they had lovely products and where very innovative. I think their last launch was the powdee with the very unique compact that was later copied by Makeup forever. I'm going to back up on some of my favorites from them and hope they can make a comeback.
THATS CRAZY bc when they first came out their customer service was quick and GOOD i had a problem w my order from my end in ordering and they fixed it asap wow 😮
I have the Uoma Beauty foundation and I like it. It never became my go to. But I will notice it and wear it sometimes. I hate to see this because when someone else takes over a brand from the founder it doesn't hit the same. But once a brand loses customers trust it's hard to come back from that. I don't know if anyone remembers when Lime Crime was buzzing and they charged customers for products they never purchased and just ignored them when former customers started questioning what the heck was going on. They finally admitted that some kind of glitch happened and they would get everyone their money back. But they've never recovered. Oh yeah, Shanygne I think I asked you to review the foundation from "About Face" and you've already done that and I watched it 😂. There's a lot going on.
I used to use another brand but they reworked the shades and I was left without a shade match. So now I use Uoma exclusively and this happens. Now with this, I’m not sure what to use. May I ask what brand you have been using instead?
Thanks for this update I was wondering what happened with Uoma. I was wondering if you will be trying the reformulated coverfx, I know you loved the original powerplay.
I’m wearing the lipgloss right now and when I tell you, this is the best lipgloss I’ve worn ever and now I’m looking up to find out if I could buy it again and it led me to you
I stocked up on their foundation/primer a while back because I assumed it was a random sale. Sad to hear it was likely related to the brand being phased out. Thanks for the info!
I remember seeing Walmart reduce their prices on Uoma and i immediately thought omg they are going out of business.Things fail but maybe they still have a chance to revamp under new ownership bc their packaging was great
Thank you for this video, it's unfortunate how support for black owned black have declined since 2020, but indie small brands are still making moves out here! I was wondering why i cant find their site? Only brand i found my shade that didn't oxidize, plus wasn't drying my face etc... I don't want to look for another foundations... it took me 12 years to find good one.
Now I see why Coloured Raine have people make pre-orders. They make people wait months for their pre-ordered products. They want to make sure they have their money in advance😂
its sad that coloured raine isnt getting talked about much in the beauty space :( I've loved everything I've tried from them and they've been consistently launching products too!
Nooo Mented?!?!? No no no no, I need my foundation…the website is under maintenance and there are NO complexion products available. If you go to Ulta, there’s like 4 shades of the foundation stick left.
I’m from Canada, and seen it at Wal-Mart during the fall. Just left Wal-Mart after watching this video 1st and don’t see it again. The change of ownership for sure is a downfall for this brand.
Sad to hear about this down turn though I never tried much from the brand myself. It was always hard to find the ingredients on the website and not super accessible on the ground. Still, I'm always rooting for everybody Black and they had some pretty looking products.
What's sad is i love their foundation primer and powder and wanted to buy some restocks, but i started seeing that people weren't getting their orders. SMH
I live in Canada so Uoma was not available to me easily unless I would cross the border or order online. I was hoping ulta would come so I can finally buy the product but it never happened. I think what it was lacking too was marketing imho. I honestly forgot the brand existed until this video 😢.
I haven't watch the video yet but I literally just bought some of their lipsticks on clearance on Walmart app. I think they are rebranding, been sold, or going out of business. Either way, I wish them well.

They launched a budget brand at Walmart. Limited products, foundation, brow products, lip products, mascara, a cleansing oil , vitamin c serum and some really good cleansing wipes. The foundation is my favorite and the brow pen last forever.
I own one of their foundation and concealer and it’s full of oil, I mean oil that you can literally pour out and cook with. I don’t know what’s that’s oil about 😅
They had nice stuff for white folks too. They made of the nicest bronzers and contours I’ve ever found for fairer skinned people. Glad I was able to snap some up before they went kaput.

remember BLACK UP COSMETICS??? THAT was bought out by a yte company or yte person...( i think)...

Mented has been under maintenance forever and I’ve been searching for lip liner dupes but I can’t find any 😭😭😭😭
Just checked the mented site and there is nothing for sale. Checked Ulta and they had 12 items including 2 Lipliners.
Yea my favorite lipstick is" brand nude". The only thing is it doesn't last long for the money. The lipstick is about 30 bucks

They had THE BEST eyeliner I've ever used in my entire life. Great video!

Not Uoma😭😭😭 I loved their lipsticks oh well💀
Yessssss I have a few
Me too😢. They have my favorite red and purple lipstick shades.
Dang I had know idea about the brands struggles.. so unfortunate I really liked some of their products. 😢
Not the point of the video but when you mentioned Stilla I perked up because I swear by the double ended eyeliner with the micro tip 😂

I got an Uoma gift card for Christmas...now I guess it is useless.
Yeah Uoma beauty is no more, especially since the owner stepped down last year, and the company got bought
Walmart was marking down those prices like crazy. They were always on the clearance aisle. Now, there is nothing left.
RIP I loved their concealer
Your recollection is a little off. It wasn’t launched in Walmart. That came after.
I just got a mented powder on ipsy lol, is good so I hope they dont fall
Yea... What Happen to this brand.. I was wondering thus awhile back when I No longer saw it Wal-Mart.
i only saw the brand in Nordstrom, but they may have been during the panorama

This is tragic I love my eyeshadow palette from them 😢
It’s not looking good, dang …
And mented??? 😭😭

sheeshh! wowww mented too!
💔💔
Umoa beauty is sold in cvs by the original creator.
The OG creator is not longer involved. That's the rest of the discount line which Macauthur said they're getting rid of.
Uoma by SharonC. That’s what I thought also. I don’t have Walmart where I live. I love the luxury Ulta and the CVS brand.
I had no idea. This is really unfortunate. Too often, BOMBs are purchased by non-POC companies & things are changed; I hope that doesn't happen 🫤
