    I had similar issues, ended up using no more ply - cement board that’s 12mm thick. Really solid stuff.

After seeing your heat mat and tile under your soldering when doing the filler valves I was then waiting for you to set light to the floor membrane when you came to solder those 90s....

    When we did my parents bathroom concealed shower, the handset thread was to short to go through tile, adhesive, backerboard and OSB. Since we had already tanked we had to cobble together an arbour backwards to cut out the OSB inside our boxing

    This channel has helped me so much since moving into our 60s bungalow. This channel has given me the confidence to rip out the whole bathroom and re-fit a new one! I'm going to tackle a new central heating system off my new found confidence thanks to this channel. Just need to find a plumber who will move my boiler and is happy with me doing the donkey work.

    Much easier to alter studs and mount valve to correct depth. face over with Jackoboard which comes in various thickness. Tile direct. Job done.

      Yeah I'm just a diy'er and have seen most people do it this way. Mounting the valve on a 6x2 attached to the stud

    Could you not recess the ply between your studs? So face of ply is level with face of studs? Therefore gaining 6/9mm of depth on the valve? 👍🏻

    Bit of a backwards way to to it. Not a bad way but usually you put the tap in position first and pipe it up. You can then pattress the wall, recessing between the studs to give you your 9mm clearances you lost. 👍🏻

    Please please Please someone tell me the name of the part that the water feeds into and the valve also screws into on these internal wall mount taps. It’s a 3 way knuckle seen here!

    I fitted the exact same taps last month. The threads are too short. After a change of plan and a few choice words all was well and the taps look lovely. Annoying though

      Can you mount the tap to the front of the ply? That way you only have say 6mm hardibacker and 15mm for the tile and adhesive to negotiate

      I’m honestly don’t remember now sorry. The one I was doing there was no way to mount other than the threads. If they’d had fixings to surface mount onto a ply pattress it would have been easy

    I suspect that the designer of the valve didn't think anyone would double up with ply and cement backer....

      Hardie on its own (so not 6mm) and a tile with adhesive would still have been too deep. My point is from a manufacturer perspective why not just give us a few more threads!

      Hardibacker brand name, is cement board. Rigid and can carry heavier weight tiles than plaster board.
      Can be tiled directly on to.
      Can also be used (as I have) as a liner for a fireplace as it is entirely noncombustible!

    Why ply plus hardiebacker? Could you not have put a couple noggins in and just put hardiebacker onto studs? They’re supposed to negate the need for ply.

    Don't. Fit an electronic bath filler, fed via the overflow. Taps (mechanical valves) are 19th Century.

    That type of jointing compound should not be used on potable water

      Boards are too thin for this. 6mm is flexxy! I also like to play the whole wall for reasons you'll see in the next few videos.

      Bath is in place (finally!) They work fine. It’s got a nice run off on the design so there’s loads of room.
