@captainscentsible3938 They're probably real steel chairs. They don't use them very often, only when they need to convey that a guy hates the other a lot. Also notice that they don't hit eachother in the head anymore.
I am way late to this video but I've been a longtime wrestling fan going back to the late 60s, (that shows you how old I am). I am not, nor can I ever be, a professional wrestler, but I deeply appreciate your passion and teaching about your business. Thank you for all you do. Watching this video brings to mind a story that Jim Cornette told about Big Bubba Rogers when he was in the old NWA. Dusty Rhodes asked someone to gimmick a wooden chair so they could use it later in a match. When it came time to use it, Dusty grabbed the chair, swung it hard which blasted the slats off of the back of the chair, and wound up horse-collaring Bubba. Bubba's just wearing it as he takes off his fedora hat, shakes the pieces out, and all the while Dusty's backing up, which he had never done before. Come to find out later the guy who was supposed to gimmick the chair forgot to do so, so Bubba took a full shot but just shook it off. A helluva story about a way different time.
Yup, there's a big difference between fake and scripted/choreographed. If you want to use the word fake, it's probably more accurate to say the OUTCOMES in pro wrestling are fake. but the risk and pain people can experience from it are real. Fair disclosure, I'm not a pro wrestler myself, just a guy who's had his fair share of spills in life to know you can only do so much to absorb a fall, but you can fall correctly to avoid an injury, which I have figured out how to do on my own. Still hurts when you fall, just you don't have a sprain or broken bone to also contend with after the fact, though bruising is still a likely outcome.
Lol you know good and well he had students talking about it and asking about it. Didn’t know about the stepping on the lip part....not planning on hitting someone in the head with a chair but good to know
I actually do love the Steel Chair. I've used it and have been hit with it like no ones business. I have, however, suffered from many concussions from it. Back in the mid 90s we said "oh you got your bell rung sit out for a minute and jump back in" now we know that "bell rung" is a concussion and we know it causes serious damage down the line. My students are 20 times more creative than I ever was and should be able to use that creativity to be smarter. But I also know when you're coming up in the business you want to do the things you've seen your heros do. So no matter what I say I KNOW THEY WILL still use the chair.

I had my promoter/trainer tell me to hit him with a chair once. In the back, though. But it was for a show, I'd never been taught how to use a chair and he just said, "Swing for the part of my back where I would bump. It'll be fine." I remember heaving that thing above my head (he was on hands and knees on the outside) and thinking "How the fuck can I do this without hurting him?" So I hit the side of the floor as close to his ribs as I could. I ended up hitting his funny bone. We got to the back and he was like "Goddamn, kid, didn't I show you how to actually swing one of those things before the show?" NO! YOU DIDN'T!
When they say don’t try this at home you really shouldn’t, me and my friends growing up all wanted to be wrestling and one of my friends hit the other with a steal chair the wrong way like how he showed in the video, he had to get 12 stitches, had a concussion and now has a permanent scare on his head. Now as I’m someone who is training to be a wrestling just do a back shot it is not worth it to take a chair shot to the head, I wish I would have trained under this guy cause he is so much better of a teacher

I want to get into wrestling, but I'm definitely not going to do a chair shot to the head. I'll take it to the back of do a DDT of piledriver on a chair before I take a head shot. I've had 2 concussions growing up, don't need any more.
Until I was about 16-17, I just simply didn’t know any better and never looked it up so I figured Pro Wrestlers legitimately use different chairs that aren’t actually like a metal folding chair. I've seen a lot of wrestlers hit people with a bit of a skipping off to the side effect. They begin the swing looking like its straight head on to the opponents head but they make contact and kind of move the momentum off to the side. I don't know if I'm describing it well.
