This stuff is sort of like an anti-martial art. Lots of repetitive practice to get good, but instead of maximizing damage you're trying to minimize it. I'm going on 40 in less than a year and am probably a bit too old to get started (there's something to be said for being in good physical shape and free of nagging injuries) but a big part of me regrets not giving this stuff a shot when I was younger.

Like You were saying everybody throws punches in Wrestling differently, and that's good to stop everyone being cookie cutter punchers, but here is my critique, Your punch is coming from California To New York (too) quickly, leading to likely hood of an undersell, "if that were real it would break a bears Jaw", punches in Wrestling are standard weakish offense, although can look impressive if done well hence Scott Hall, The Rock, Bret hart, Your punch like I'm saying is far to animated psychologically, don't get me wrong they were some vicious hay makers You throwing there, but that wouldn't be convincing as a bog standard Punch, You could run angle where You were quite placid and mild mannered, and an entire faction was, bullying, berating, and mistreating You, thinking Your a big wimp who could be intimidated, not necessarily attack You, but push You around and make You feel uncomfortable but too mild mannered to stand up for Yourself, then eventually something snaps You get really angry and stand up for Yourself, You throw just one of those, have Your opponent sell it convincingly and not goofy like, and he was at home for 6 months with his jaw wired shut eating Soup, You can have that for free if You wanna try it, and oh yeah You were either missing the dummy completely or just tickling him a pinch, so congratulations on being a safe pair of hands!!!

Been in for over 22 years and also have done a fair amount of mma and jits.
I have noticed that it's a subjective thing, with exceptions for full blown missing, because it's a fake punch being judged by someone who (most often) doesn't know how to throw a real punch and they (the critic/coach) know you are throwing fake punches so they have the high ground and a position of power to say "getting better", "needs work", or "looks fake"
this is more about maintaining the power relationship than solely on bad work.
Just learn to wrestle for real, then you won't rely on punches, and you won't need to punch, most professionals do not understand martial arts drilling, kata, technique and think a fight is all brute strength and will.

Mr. Kaos, question... Ravishing Rick Rude used to do "The Rude Awakening". How do you do that maneuver and not injure your opponent? This is probably the only move in wrestling I can't figure out, without an injury occurring. Thank you.

I recently watched Stevie Richards' video where he was breaking down Barry Horowitz's punches among other things, and he talked about of a lot of the same kind of things! (Horowitz is not just maybe my favorite "jobber" of all time, but one of my favorite wrestlers period. He was just freaking SMOOTH in the ring, ya know?)

We were doing wrestling at home when I was 12, you'll be amazed how far we advanced with moves and punches, suplexes, even corner elbow drops. I use the same technique you showed here. 12 years old, still can't believe I came to that by myself. All recordings saved. We had 92 matches.

Punching in wrestling is really stupid. The referees used to admonish wrestlers for throwing punches. At one time they warmed wrestlers for even having a clinched fist. It’s wrestling ! The wrestlers at one time threw forearmed blows, and open handed strikes. In the 60s and 70s the wrestlers could not gouge eyes, bend individual fingers, kick with the point of the boot, choke or stretch the mouth. What happened to the rules. Watch the referees, they don’t do anything. They don’t even count wrestlers out of the ring with a real count. It used to be 10 on the apron and 20 on the floor.

I saw amatures wrestling in a gymnasium years back and it was awful..They would throw punches and miss by a mile and the guy would flop around..The crowd at the gym were just laughing..The real professional wrestlers do a great job at making their matches look as real as possible..We don`t realize how truly talented pro wrestlers are.

I really just don't understand what the point of throwing punches is if you're not actually going to throw a punch. WWE has the potential to be amazingly brutal but instead they fake almost everything and over dramatize it. I want to be a fan of WWE. I've tried to be a fan. But it's so obvious that they are not actually beating each other up and they're so dramatic about it it just gets cringy after a while.
