  • Ann dips into her reclaim bucket to create a slip and demonstrates how to create elegant 3-D decorations on pots. This is a great video for those that are shy about painting or drawing...Ann's techniques make it easy to follow along, so try it out! Or, just sit back and watch this relaxing pottery video and let Ann do the decorating! And yes, we're messing with the Thumbnails to try and attract more attention...when your trying to unite the world through pottery, sometimes you have to use drastic measures.

    What a great way to work with slip. I love this video. I do have a time saver for you, though. If you put your slip in a small zip loc baggie, you can cut the corner of it in order to squeeze your slip into that bottle. You can save some time and it goes in cleaner. Love your videos. I always learn something new!

    • @annruel1982
      @annruel1982 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Cindy,. Good question. You have to apply it on greenware...preferably when the clay is leather hard. The issue is the shrinking of the clay. You want the clay and the slip to be shrinking together as much as possible. Thanks for watching our video 🙂. Have a great day!

    Can you put slip on a bone dry piece? I was afraid that the uneven drying might make cracks. Thank you for all of your wonderful videos. I’ve learned so much from you

    • @annruel1982
      @annruel1982 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hi Laura. I was unsure about that too. I think you would have the best chance of the slip not cracking off as it dries at the leather hard stage, but I was surprised to see that I could do this technique with my porcelain slip right onto a bone dry porcelain piece without any cracking off. i think the brushing of the slip helped to adhere it to the clay. It also may be that porcelain is more forgiving for this. Stoneware may not be as accepting to the slip. I recommend TESTING on your bone dry clay....or just doing this at the leather hard stage.

    • @annruel1982

    • @annruel1982
      @annruel1982 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Jackie. My porcelain is the only clay I have used for this. I the two clays shrink at the same percentage, it has a good chance of not cracking off. Another tip is to try this technique with your two different clay bodies at leather hard as opposed to bone dry for a better chance of success. Give it a shot. Good luck 🙂 Thanks for watching!!

      Hi Linda. I have tried to write an answer to your question three time now and for some reason, You Tube wont post it. Maybe third time is the charm. I experimented with three techniques all using slips and some capacity of underglaze with it so that upon final firing the underglaze will show through. We will post the final pieces to the community section when we get a chance if you want to see them.
