    • @Paul.Burrell
      @Paul.Burrell 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Exactly. That's what I think about when I see athletes year to year only get marginally better. Most athletes work out, but Kobe was maniacal about it. If an athlete says he wants to be great and doesn't have that mindset he's fooling himself. I wish and hope Lamar Jackson will get that mentality. I was just thinking about Kobe's mindset with Lamar after the Bill's loss. He's got a chance to be special but average commitment isn't going to cut it.

    • @Davivd2
      @Davivd2 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      That's what gets me too. The loss of the man. Basketball is like a side effect of what he was as a man. This guy becomes a great father and a basketball coach, a philanthropist, an Oscar award winning story teller, and on top of that he learned how to play Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata just from listening to it over and over and then mimicking it note by note. I learned how to play the guitar that way. But I had to start out easy. It would be like picking up the guitar and the first thing you learn is Jimi Hendrix. Nobody starts out with Beethoven. This man could have done anything he set his mind to.

      @@CeeWorld69 yeah he turned into a champion when he was no longer a star in the league and bounced over to every organization and ultimately won as a bench role player. Him having a ring now doesn’t mean half as much if he would have won it when he was the man in Orlando. It’s how it matters that counts.
      Like for example TMac never won a ring but he could have ended with a ring if the Spurs had one the championship in 2013. TMac would have a ring to show for it but he didn’t even play, he was a bench player. Winning that ring wouldn’t have meant half of what it would if he had won it while he was in his prime and was one of the best players in the league with his own team.
      I’m happy for Dwight that he won. He was on my list of players that I didn’t want them to retire without a ring but that ring isn’t a testament of his greatness.

    That phone call story with Dwight, Kobe already knew it wasn't gonna work even before they both stepped into the hardwood together. Still, happy for Dwight, matured over the years and got his ring. Wished he matured much earlier tho. That '13 Lakers team could have done it if they were all healthy and all their heads were in the right place.
