Yes, this isn't even that much. I'm not sure of the exact gallons on this, but it is between 60 and 100. The biggest unit I've seen has over 355 *usable* gallons. Brands make non-custom machines up to 1000 gallons. This is nothing compared to how big these tanks can get. Brand can even custom make ones over 1,000 gallons which is insane. I don't know of any installations like that, or pictures of a machine like that, but it's out there somewhere..
@@frommarkham424 Its a hydraulic elevator, the oil drives a piston that moves the car. The pistons displacement is quite large, hence why you need so much oil :)
If you have been in a hydraulic elevator and smell an oily smell, that's what the machine room smells like but a LOT stronger. I've gotten used to the smell of hydraulic oil, but yeah, it is a very strong and pungent smell
@@QEElevators The "top it off with water" was mostly a joke - it's possible for small amounts of water to end up in the oil in other ways (some pits tend to flood, depending on the setup some of that can sometimes make it back into the tank) and oil with water in it looks very similar to oil with air in it. The oil in the video does probably just have air in it. The presence of a small amount of water wouldn't immediately kill the motor (in part because the windings are insulated, to some extent) even if it would eventually cause some damage.

No the oil has a lot of tiny air bubbles in it from cavitation making it a lighter color
@@QEElevators That's possible too - could be air, water, or both.
If they did top it off with water the motor would’ve shorted out because the motor is open and submerged in the oil. The oil cools the motor.

Are you sure that the cavitation isn’t damaging the client’s property? (The impeller inside the pump).
It most likely is. A new hydraulic packing seal later, and the leak is resolved, and the elevator is back to normal operation.
