Every time when a game gets controversial when it relates it not having any DEI propaganda is going to make the game lead to a successful outcome, it just goes to show you that players are actually tired of this thing being included in games because it's unnecessary
@Random76544 adding a lot of examples would just give more people ammo to accuse the studio of trying to hide things. They gave the perfect amount of examples for the most obvious things people might rope into a conversation involving a Chinese studio. People that argue about this simply want there to be drama to distract them from how boring their lives are. Their publishers, not the studio or developers, asking to keep discourse to the game itself is in every way a reasonable request.
Hogwarts Legacy, Stellar Blade, Elden Ring, Black Myth Wukong and other such games immense success really puts into perspective how irrelevant game journalists are & how they exist in an echo chamber. They are disconnected with the end consumers. The end consumers really dgaf about their opinions & it shows in the sales statistics of all the games these games journalists have either tried to cancel or promote. The games they cancel sell millions of copies & some even become GOTY. And the games they try to hype up tank horribly with just some 200 players playing the game lmao
Wait until weekends, then there will be even more players. Now its broke the record for single player game category for having the most concurrent players online.

@@hikhik6441 Na, what's making people want to buy this very average game is the strawman that was created behind a couple of reviews that barely touched on some social issues. Made the nerds angry so bought out of spite. And all you really needed to do was read thr actual article that was demonised. See when I first heard about it I thought, the same thing, but I don't just stop there. I head to the source and get some perspective. And they points were minor but valid I've seen review bombs happen for less glaring omissions from source material. You geeks are hypocrites. And their score wasn't even in reference to the omissions from the source material. It was for all the other issues of the product that every other reviewer glossed over with "some of you might want to wait" and "for this reason it might not be for this specific type of player".
I've only been reading manhwa, and watching martial art cgi, never played their games with triple A quality like wukong, trying to role play that is in a whole different level, definitely a lot of wuxia/murim fans gonna flock on it.
The controversy is that a DEI company tried to blackmail them with a $7 million “consultation fee” and they were told no. So now they’re labeled sexist and racist. This is nasty stuff.
Yeah, fuck free speech. You don't get to be your own person while talking about this game. If they have to comply with the CCP, that sucks, so be it. That's not where all of this is coming from. The feminism thing is just their own bs.
Yeah basically. I don’t even know why people keep saying the Chinese government has anything to do with this, when it’s obviously just a response to bad faith actors drawing focus away from the quality of the game.
They didn't say don't discuss politics. They said don't discuss feminism or COVID. So they are pushing for a particular kind of politics. The people supporting this don't actually care about free speech.
@@Bomb6A9Head Asmon has some pretty good takes in alot of his videos. Sometimes he does get it wrong but more often than not he makes sense when discussing something.
The success of this game has nothing to do with DEI. It’s not that the absence of DEI made it successful; it’s just not relevant. The real reason Black Myth: Wukong took off is that it hit the mark with what Chinese gamers want in a single-player game. First, there’s a huge demand for games based on ancient Chinese mythology, especially Journey to the West, which is a classic that almost every Chinese person loves. Second, there’s a growing desire for high-quality single-player games because people are fed up with the pay-to-win model dominating the online gaming scene in China. To explain this, you have to know that China is wealthy now and already has a huge game market. However it’s all about local pay-to-win online games. Take Genshin Impact, for example-it’s popular, but it doesn’t even crack the top three in China’s online gaming market. In recent years, the demand for single-player games has skyrocketed, and Black Myth: Wukong met this need, pulling players away from those online games. Interestingly, if you dig into some early news in China, you’ll find that some game journalists, hired by big companies, tried to undermine Black Myth. Personally, I don’t think the game is perfect; it has its flaws. But as a Chinese gamer, it’s a must-buy because people want more single-player games that reflect Chinese culture. And they understand that the best way to get more of these games is to support companies like Game Science, who stands with players and are genuinely trying to make great games, even under pressure.
I mean, you are describing the Western market as well. The Western market is DESPERATE for an AAA level game that has a good story, good characters, good graphics, no ultra predatory model, and isn't preachy af. Anyone who is even tangentially familiar with Easter Asian culture knows of Wukong and Journey to the West. And of course, what better way to tell a story when you get a game made by Chinese people? Can you imagine what EA or Ubisoft would have done to butcher this game? I don't even want to think about it.
BRUH THANKS. I thought everyone here is in an absolute psychosis. I even felt a bit gas-lighted because so many here talk about "woke journalism" and "woke people peeing their pants rn" even though I haven't seen a single person saying that the game is not fun or problematic in any way. lmao It's legit a good game and Asian/Chinese, that's the main reason here
Great post, not only the P2W features in any competitive scene but also the rampant cheating in every multiplayer game ruins the integrity of the experience. It’s why games like Elden ring, BG3 have been so highly successful in recent times. This game isn’t my cup of tea per se, but I support the message behind it and if more games follow it’ll be good for all gamers
Of course it has some flaw. Game science or Chinese gaming industry have never created a AAA game before, i am suprise it broke so much game record with only a more than 140 worker lol. Now imagine what chinese game developer will create in the future when they first hits is a huge success.
Controversy? Oh, please. It’s just another instance of so-called game "journalists" throwing a fit because they can’t comprehend that this game is based on Chinese folklore, which clearly doesn’t align with their forced diversity. Instead of appreciating the game's quality like its gameplay, physics, and storyline, they're busy whining about the absence of black characters and such, as if every studio has a magical diversity box to tick.

Sun Wukong was born from a stone crevice, making him a silicon-based lifeform, and thus, a member of a minority group. As a stone monkey, he is genderless and can be seen as a representative of the LGBT community. Additionally, as a monk, he is also a vegetarian. He created chaos in the underworld to prevent his fellow monkeys from being oppressed, showing that he is a noble animal rights activist. After being trapped under the Five Elements Mountain for 500 years, suffering greatly, he gained a deep understanding of freedom, making him a liberal. He respectfully addresses women as "Goddess of Mercy," showing his support for women's rights, making him a feminist. His journey to extinguish the flames of Fire Mountain showcases him as a great environmental warrior. The storyline in the Kingdom of Women, involving male pregnancy and the allowance of abortion, further reflects a progressive stance on reproductive rights. Such a figure, embodying multiple attributes like minority status, LGBT identity, vegetarianism, animal rights activism, feminism, environmentalism, and liberalism, and with his 72 transformations piling on more and more buffs, how could anyone say he is politically incorrect?

It's legit a good game and Asian/Chinese, that's the main reason here
Great post, not only the P2W features in any competitive scene but also the rampant cheating in every multiplayer game ruins the integrity of the experience.

As an Asian, this sort of rules around Buddhism is pretty on brand. In Thailand alone, we have several billboards of people getting arrested or beaten for having a Buddhist tattoo or a Buddha toilet cover. That billboard is just outside the airport exit to let foreigners know what’s up

I'd say their 'controversy' (aka marketing campaign) was very successful indeed.
This right here. Wouldn’t be surprised if this was a clever psyop setup by the game studio. All they would have to do is leak a few emails and then start posting about it on Twitter/reddit. They saw how successful it made stellar blade and Harry Potter
I think “controversy” is made by these influencers who want shit on DEI and gain some engagement and money from doing this. The devs are kinda surprised about all these

Americans need to understand that game developers in another country need to conform to different political climates. In the US, that means virtue signaling by DEI to avoid getting cancelled. In China, that means virtue signaling by not talking shit to avoid getting disappeared.
Blackrock will absolutely make companies disappear in investment.
@@cattysplat definitely, my dude

Most of them just like to have diversity, but I guess that's a sin in your book.
Also, what political climate in China prohibits feminism?
Pretty sure that's just the absolute freakshow at that company trying to hide its ass.
I don’t get it, what propaganda do they want? The bosses are a bear, a rat, a tiger, a devil, a dragon , and a monkey. And the main character is a monkey. What kind diversity do people want?
The people with money have spoken. Theyre supporting a new ISP that is neutral politically with record breaking release player counts.
How this keeps happening, and yet the propagandists still convince studios to tank their game is insane.
Most games are developped over years, the games coming out now started production at the peak of wokeness and couldn't course correct before release. Same reason movies still suck despite 4 consecutive years of losses for the movie industry, they either cancel the project altogether or release it and hope they make some ROI.
That's because the people running those studios are also propagandists.
