In my opinion, internally ballasted centerboard sailboats are the best compromise of performance and safety in sailboat design. It's basically akin to having variable geometry wings on an airplane but without the equivalent complexity. They're very safe and comfortable because the ballast is inside the hull creating a nice smooth motion and the boat can keep sailing even if the centerboard falls off or is damaged. Brilliant design IMHO.
Still learning all the secrets about sailing. Being able to reduce hull drag by lifting the keel while still maintaining some useful sail area sounds like genius to me. What a great idea.
Will only work if you are running, although less drag, the rudder is far more sensitive. This version of OVNI can also pull up the rudder, but that would make it harder to steer under this condition. Anyhow running with the keel up gives a full 1knt speed advantage, going from 5.5 up to 6.5 sometime hitting 7.

The most I ever got out of her is 9.5 knts, flying a code zero. I have sailed the sister boats 445 and the cigale, these I have brought into the low doubles, with the cegale doing 14.5 th-cam.com/video/H2v0e2sTy6w/w-d-xo.html
Very, very nice videos! I am French owner on 41 Océanis. Most time, I am sailing alone from Gibraltar to Greece and I spend 6 month in little baies in Greece. Can you give me a hint? Price doesn't matter, but what ist the ideal ship for me? I am between 445 OVNI, 42 LAGOON, 42 Sun Odysee DS or AMEL 54 ???
How many crew. ? what is the budget. New / Used ? I would stay with Alubat , sailed most of them, a 395 ovni is a good starter the amel is to big need 3 crew
1 to 2 persons, 400000 Euro, 5 years old..... To live on board (diving, cooking, parties...) one month in Kalamata, one month in Corfu, two month in Poros- the 395 seems to small for me. That's the reason why I thought about a Catamaran. The boat is my home for 6 month, in the summertime. Can I handle a 445 alone?

Just came across your channel. Great vid. Been looking at aluminum boats.

Very Nice
Was looking at Onvi Yachts on line and your vid came up , they look like a super capable boat !
Yes they are, I have sailed several form 36 to 49, and the Cigale.
Settled for a 445 , did not go for 450.. do not like twin steering wheel.
Was looking at 39 made in the early 90s within my budget! I like the the idea of aluminium and the adjustable draught , makes total sense to me !
And did you find one?

Sailing Channel Marinus cheers man . Sorry been busy. Will do for sure
Hi, nice video. Can I ask what kind of camera/box to put it inside, you used for filming under water? Rolf, Norway
In this it was a gopro, but most of our underwater is done with a RED cinematic camera in specialist housing
the opload quality not too good due to youtube compression. .

here you see some testing
These days shooting with RED in www.backscatter.com/group/red-epic-underwater-housing

@@gerardjouvancourt5568 445 can be sailed single handed. also Garcia. would not do a cat. Lagoon is horrible. www.arzal-nautique.fr/nos-occasions/
Great videography ! . Is your propeller also a substitute hydro generator ? Love the Kick-up Rudder .. What's her best speed ? Thanks ! (Subbed)
Broad reach ever made her surf at 10knts , yes the prop can gen about 400 watts , but kicks the boat speed down 0.8 knt
@@PaulusPHM Thanks !.

What model ovni is it ?
2006 Alubat Ovni 395
@@PaulusPHM Is it suitable for solo sailing around the world?
Single handed , yes , the basic line/ropes/winches set up makes it very well suitable.
I have done even with an 445 single handed.
