Snead Island Boat Works. Definitely a great marina. Great access, mechanics and awesome customer service. A family owned business that takes pride in their services.
Agreed on that. Have to say if a gal is giving me estimates of distance, i'm pretty much ignoring them. I love women but that distance thing is crazy weak for them. Navigation as well but betting folks know that. Can't count the number of times I've zinged my lady friends with something that includes the word 'Magellan'.
Buddy just had a horrible experience with them . They actually became very nasty to my friend and his wife they left with still a broken boat and had it repaired elsewhere. Our friends are the gentlest people you’d meet so I’m pissed they were yelled at and treated this way, Snead is a NO for me or anyone else that asks for a recommendation.
@@CaptKenO Yeah, that had to be a pain with all that windage, a bridge looming near, current, and tight quarters. The Outboads a plus and minus. Plus, you can direct the thrust. Minus, less thrust than a IB diesel
Awesome marina. No radio and a clueless phone operator. lmao. I don't think I would have much faith in a mechanic working in a place like that. His warranty on his work would be until you untied the lines. Towboat operator is one patient guy that is a pro at what he does. They should have taken his advice of where to take their boat.
Thanks Mike! I can't talk about the quality of their mechanics there since I don't have any experience with that... These guys were paying out of pocket for this tow, so it would've at tripled their cost to go to Snead Island
The hero in this story is very patient. Hero: “They do realize you’re a 42 foot boat, right?” SR42: “It’s 42 all the way.” Hero: “Yeah, but they know that, right?” SR42: “It’s actually on title it says 38, but It’s 42..” Hero: “But they know that you’re not a small boat, right?” SR42: “I told them that on the phone yesterday.” ::facepalm::
Ken, the problem is that they have a Sea Tow boat tied up there. They must give preferential dockage/service to the boaters that use that tow company. 🤔
It's a possibility...my boss said the same thing. It's a bad business model if its true though, since I'm bringing a customer into them who's going to pay them money to fix his boat. Shouldn't matter who brings them in...especially since now I'm going to take business elsewhere given the choice
Its Florida !!! No ones in a hurry! Looks like you had Merc out boards. you did a lot of shiftin ,,, How they holding up ?? You like them or its what the boss put on the boat ? Since you seam to have a whole lot of time on the water , just wondering what out boards you like or recommend.
These are the new 200hp inline 4cy Suzuki's. We run Suzuki's on all our boats except the whaler that has the old 2 stroke Yamahas. It's what the boss put on this boat when it got repowered, but we've had good luck with the Suzuki's, so I have nothing bad to say about them. I 100% would not run Mercs though. I used to work for freedom boat club (owned by Brunswick who own mercury) and had lots of quality control/design issues with the Mercs.
You have my respect. The difficulties in hopping a vessel that’s larger and heavier than the tow vessel grows exponentially. The approach and securing that first line to the dock means everything. Tight quarters maneuvering with wind and current is not the situation you want to end up in. But it’s the amount of patience you have that gains my respect. My tolerance for dumb shit is insufficient to be dealing with people like this. When someone tells me something that my own eyes can see is not true it makes me ill. Especially when if they screw up it’s “oh well” but if I screw up it’s “$$” out of my pocket. At the first request to confirm, whoever was on the phone at the dock should have gotten up off their lazy sss and put eyes upon the situation. My question is if they had one engine and limited steering, could they not have made that journey unassisted? I do not know how the steering system is set up on that boat. And steering failures never happen with rudders straight.
sometimes it sucks being smarter than everyone else because you have to repeat yourself 15 times so they can finally catch up to your speed. by the time they catch up you are already frustrated. "do they know you have a 42 foot boat coming in right"... "on the title it says 38" LOL okkkkkkkk
Thanks Vancity! I'm guessing she was buried in an office somewhere and couldn't see the dock...and the boat owner had called before we left the other dock to confirm they had room for us (that's who he was on the phone with when I showed up)
If you have one engine on a nice day I would have brought it back without the tow if possible. I hope they tied the shaft off on the bad engine to save the transmission!
@@CaptKenO The camera seemed to (pan) or follow you around. I have never seen that before. Later in another video I saw a link to the camera you are using and perhaps that explains what I saw happening. Pretty cool.
Hey Ken, you've not been on my recommendation list in a while. I have some catching up to do. First thing I noticed is your video and audio you've got going is effing great! love the upgrades for sure. Did you only have the one bumper while going in to the dock to have a pivot point between you and the other boat to give you better control to maneuver? or was that for another reason? Great job w/ the tow!!

You got some damn fine skills handling your boat, you make it look so easy
Nicely done, you were always 10 steps ahead of you next move.
Thanks Mark!
Another great job Cap'n! You have much better control of your temper than I do.
Haha! Thanks Del! 🤣
If only you could hear what was going on inside my head...or what was said out loud that got cut from the video 🙄😂
Well done Skipper!🤗

It's nice to have cool days in Florida this time of year. Great job not hitting anything with that massive wall between you and the dock and pilings.
Thanks Patrick!

@fredread9216 those outboards have more than enough power for this type of work, so I'll take the increased directional control any day !

I suggest keeper this Tow Operator on my Speed dial.....Obviously very experienced !!!!
So enjoy these....Harkens me back to my sea Scout days in Seattle.

They're heading to the panhandle...so they won't be a frequent flyer of mine

Thanks Capt! No shit. Hopefully you don't have to come up here and deal with them 😂
Amazing how you pilot that boat..

Well done.

It must be nerve wracking not being able to see 360 degrees when towing.
Most definitely!

Chesapeake Bay and Cape Coral FL

How can a marina on the intercostal not have a radio?
Laziness

There is no excuse for facility like this to not maintain a watch on VHF. It’s either lazy, cheap or both.
I'd go with lazy. A radio costs next to nothing
do not forget the current
It can be bad in there sometimes for sure...wasn't too bad on this day
What does it cost to move a boat that size?
$0 if you have a membership...$400/h if you don't
We all hate that marina and now that it’s owned by a corrupt developer its not going to get any better.
What's your reason for hating it?
Guy on the phone with Marina needs to learn how to listen and communicate... That was frustrating.
He was doing fine. It was the marina that was messing up
Chesapeake Bay and Cape Coral for Towboat US
Ok, cool!
Kinda strange bringing a broken boat to a fuel dock on a busy day anyway
Not really...It was the only dock at this marina that was "open" and it's where they wanted it put
Are you sure that was a SeaRay?
Its a SeaRay410 AC
Yes
👍👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

Hey superape!
Dude the guy "calling" the marina was an infuriating person that just wasn't listening.
because he’s an idiot
He was doing ok...it was more the lady on the other end of the phone that was causing the problems
