- Final episode. John Denver does his thing. He cheered all the other acts during the night and was a genuine nice guy ( unlike Peter Allen).
Happy to have been an integral part of it.

I was 21 at the time and was there with a friend the opened my heart to his music and I sing some of his songs to my grand children to this day .
How could you not like this guy

I wonder if his family have seen this show? It just occurred to me how much they would love it - he was so vibrant and at the top of his game. I notice his first bracket of songs were about Annie. It was only one year after they divorced and we now know that he took quite a while to get over her.
I don't think that John or Annie ever got over each other! !💘
JohnDenver..what a guy. What would have happened if he was here now? His insightful songs are timeless. Bravely, he got political, worked tirelessly for a better America, a better Earth. Urged a life with our eyes wide open. He sang his life, he gave us hope and strength, encouragement and made us proud. He traveled the world, always a song in his heart and courage on his pen. He wasn't afraid of childhood dreams or adult painful situations. He fought and died for happy endings. John Denver was slated to be on the Challenger, which exploded upon launch. He was for some undisclosed reason scratched at the last minute. Anguished, angry, and feeling robbed that he had not accompanied his historic team, he wrote even more reckless lyrics.Listen especially to John's Denver's last songs..poignant, terrific, unforgettable..what we all strive for as a legacy..My salute to a modern-day Braveheart...

I remember that show and it was absolutely wonderful! Thank you for posting it. I will always treasure my Mum ringing me as soon as it ended and asking me if I had seen it. She was on a high and she thought John was absolutely fantastic and she loved his shirt! As far as Peter Allen not being generous towards the other artists, I am not sure if that was true but I do remember reading that John attended Peter's 40th birthday party in New York sometime after the show which suggests that they must have liked each other somewhat. :-)

Thank you so much!!! That was a blast from the past. I was one of the kids in the red uniforms at the end and I've never seen it! thank you, thank you!!! I remember particularly meeting Jon English and Delilah, just being a wide eyed kid from the burbs.

Thank you so much for putting this Sidney Entertainment Centre Opening Show on TH-cam. All the people behind the scenes, Bert Newton, all the performers, John Denver, choreographers, dancers, bands, choirs, and especially Tommy Tycho and his orchestra made the show a true extravaganza. Peter Allen, the amazing singer-songwriter, dancer and entertainer gave an amazing performance worthy of the standing ovation.

love when John was still slim and young and fit here. When he reached fifty he got a bit husky looking...but i guess all men get that way later on.
