    FYI, IDPA is now 15 rounds in Stock service pistol. You can also use comps in ESP and Carry optics as long as the comp is integrated into the gun, no screw on comps. The DRP is legal in both those divisions, stated by our state coordinator. I shoot my DRP in carry optics, My DR920L in Stock service and my Mr920 in CCP. Love em!

      Whoa! I feel so uninformed! We’ll look into this. Obviously, you can tell how long it has been since I shot a match! Thank you for the correction! Trevor

      @@bretwalley4673, the only rules I see in the book are below. I know at one time the rule specifically said "screw on or Pinned comps are not allowed" but I don't see a rule stating that screw on comps are allowed. But our AC says they rewrote the rule saying all it has to do is fit the box, so I guess it's kind of a grey area now... go figure.
      A.2.1.5 Firearms originally sold as compensated/ported models may be used in ESP with noncompensated/ported barrels installed.
      A.2.3.2 Compensated and ported barrels that are incorporated into the firearm

      @@KMC_Shooting like I said, screw on comps are legal, as long as it fits the box and makes weight.

    IDPA was created by Bill Wilson, after seeing the success of USPSA. He needed a place to sell his very expensive 1911s. Match and rules geared for single stacks. But still pretty good practice.

    In the Houston and surrounding area IDPA has almost gone away. It was very popular back in the pre-2020 days. No more. Very few clubs have IDPA matches. There are even a few clubs doing an Outlaw IDPA match to not have to deal with the IDPA membership. USPSA has taken over. It has become the King. There are plenty of matches. In this area. There are also a number of clubs putting on Steel Challenge and Multi-Gun matches. Personally I enjoy USPSA a lot more.

    Once again asking for a steel framed or otherwise heavyweight DR920 :) The DR920 is awesome for Carry Optics, and it's without a doubt the best gun for it in its weight class, but it is a little on the light side lol.

    I used to shoot 3-4 times a year and was in squads with Master and Grand Master shooters. They knew I was good but not up to their class (D and C rated) Only sport that the best would stand next to you, offer advice and treat you like a peer with very few exceptions. If you shoot the MR920 in an IDPA match in CCP division where they check equipment and you want to use the Shadow Systems magwell that comes with the gun, you will need to file some material off to make it fit in the CCP box as it is too wide.

  • @biker1958

    • @kenwickes2497
      @kenwickes2497 ปีที่แล้ว

      Large dots can cover the A zone at long distance. Small dots have enough settings to make it even too bright and large to use in the sun. If you are staring at your dot, you are doing it wrong. However at longer distance you may find longer confirmation required. Go small.

    • @True_Patriotx
      @True_Patriotx 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      6 MOA is easier to pick up quickly for fast targets.
      1 MOA for for precision at distance.
      2.5 To 3.5 MOA would be a good mid ground in between.

    Whats the point of major during a match?

    • @kenwickes2497
      @kenwickes2497 ปีที่แล้ว

      Scoring zones get more points. A zone is 5 pts per shot minor and major. C zone is 3 points minor, 4 points major. D zone is 1 point minor, 2 points major. Difference is due to the power factor being double what +p ammo is vs. factory level (125pf = minor), 145 pf is +p ammo, (165pf = major) NEVER USE MAJOR in a factory gun (most guns). It'll blow it up.

    There was a time when it was friendly competition. No longer. It used to be for working class folks with LIMITED time for practice and occasional competition. Now you have to compete against people that have no responisibilities. They shoot 52 weekends a year, 3 times during the week, and in between sit at a reloading bench.

    All the STUPID "rules and regs" in IDPA is exactly why I don't bother. Making different divisions is as easy as typing a few paragraphs.🙄 My EDC is generally a 356xl with a Wilson Combat grip module, red dot and holds 15+1. I have shot it in USPSA matches(mostly getting ready for the Sig EDC championship) and that little sucker runs like a sewing machine! If you carry a certain thing a certain way, why TF would you PRACTICE shooting any other way? Answer: YOU SHOULDN'T! It creates training scars and bad habits. My brother in law used to go to cowboy action matches. I took him to the range and when he drew his 1911 he was looking for the hammer with his left thumb every time out of HABIT.

      I just started shootings my XL in CO. I use the 17’s as 15 rounders are discontinued and impossible to get in CA. I normally shoot an SP-01 production and the difference in split times is vast. Have your splits improved over time?

      I have gone to a few matches to observe and learn a bit. Did not like what I saw. Too many people with WAY too much time on their hands. 40 years ago, or even 30 years ago, it was less of a "spend-as-much-money-as-humanly-possible" situation as it is now. You would win this month, and maybe I would win next month. Now it is the same five guys in places one through five every time. Kind of defeats the purpose. Your mileage may vary.

      @@kagyu1 I hope that you can enjoy it. I wish I could. I know that it is not 1983 and President Reagan is no longer in the White House. I know the "shooting sports" have changed. Some good changes, some not so good. No one shooting production in USPSA or stock service pistol in IDPA where I am. All carry optics, pistol caliber carbines, and unaffordable "John Wick" guns. Best of luck to you.

      @@julianmercier I shoot a CZ SP-01 in Production . My friend did the trigger job and installed the Cajun Gun Works/ CZ Custom parts. I also shoot a stock internals P-01 from appendix from concealment in every day clothes, my every day carry. I am a blue collar guy in the SF Area. Everyone seems to be in tech with 3-5k pistols. One of my favorite shooters shoots a stock Glock 26 and smokes a lot of people with more expensive guns. He consistently shoots a 6 plate rack from the draw in 3 seconds or less. I’ll never be able to afford a 2011 but I haven’t even mastered the pistols I have. It’s the Indian not the arrow. I love it , but it’s not my religion.
