The only problem is that most trash bags contain chemicals to deter insects, mold, and the like. These companies aren't required to list the chemicals, as the products are not marked as food safe. Great idea, but could spell trouble for some.
Easier to use a larger food grade bucket with a good fitting lid. Put all your ingredients in the bucket. Add ranch dressing mixed with oil (regular is best) garlic powder. Best ingredients are cheerios, Shreddies, gold fish, Crispex cereal, mini ritz, cheesits and mini pretzels. Roll the bucket back and forth! Enjoy. Freezes like a dream! Using cereal makes a less salty snack as well
I think the recipe idea is great, especially with holidays coming up. I'm dead set against using garbage bags, they are not "food grade" for obvious reasons, and most contain chemicals against mold and insects. I can't imagine allowing food to marinate in that, especially adding oil! I'd rather go buy a big plastic bin, food safe, and mix it up in that. That would also allow you to store it air tight.
Imagine arriving at a get-together at a friend’s house or something, no one even knows this is a thing, and just dropping this trash bag in the middle of a table “I brought snacks!” 😂
While others have brought up valid points about possible food safety issues... I only have one question: *How is a trash bag full of snacks **_not_** called "Raccoon Chow" or something?!* 😂
My family always brings this to family get-togethers! We use rice Chex, corn Chex, cheez-its, and pretzels. Simple, but so so good! Doesn’t get soggy and is always a fan favorite! Our variation isn’t overly salty either because corn and rice Chex aren’t salted.
I'm sure it's safer than all that crap food companies are putting in our food anyways Everything in the bag is probably more poisonous than the plastic bag itself.
Polyethylene is pretty benign. Many food packages contain it. Trash bags obviously aren’t developed or test for use with foods but temporarily storing food in them once likely won’t cause any more harm than the god knows what is in those snacks.
Hi Emmy❤️ Have you heard of cornflake candy? I brought some to my coworkers and they had never heard of them! It’s simply peanut butter, karo syrup, sugar, and cornflakes. The texture turns sort of chewy and fudge-like, with a little crunch! Addicting!
I made that for our Christmas party at work once and my boss couldn't stop going over to the table to sneak another square. For the past 3 years we're not allowed to bring homemade stuff to the party, only store bought. (Thanks covid) But every year he brings it up and says how good they were. I think they served those sometimes at my college, but they called them peanut butter bars or something like that. The food service there tries to accommodate dietary restrictions and it's one of those desserts that are incidentally vegan. It was definitely not just vegans eating them, though.
We made a version of this in the ‘80s at Christmas time. It was all three Chex cereals, cheerios, pretzel sticks, peanuts. Some butter spice Worcestershire sauce melted my mom made. Dump all into the bag. It was a hit! Gave it to neighbors and brought to holiday parties.

Too many comments to sift through.....this appears to be a riff on crack pretzel recipe going around several years ago. Two bags mini pretzels, butter oil & packet of ranch dressing mix. I personally would use melted gee and the ranch powder, but only because soybean oil is so bioengineered and full of pesticides. Plus I just prefer real butter taste. 😏 I would probably add toasted mixed nuts, too.
I know a woman who's family is obsessed with this recipe(it's an xmas thing) and who keeps metal trash cans dedicated JUST for making this.
Could it last longer if i put it in the freezer, like for storing? Id like to try it but it makes so much and i'm not the partying type so i'd like to keep it longer.
Try bugles dipped in vanilla ice cream as just a snack ? Deliciousness 😊
AN ENTIRE BOTTLE OF THE OIL? EMMY PLEASE
Yep, the ENTIRE bottle.
Needs more ranch seasoning!
Oh my goodness, yes! I love love love the new music at the beginning 😂😂😂lmao. It's totally goofy fat animal music. Or like an awkward baby elephant. There's even a song like called baby elephant walk and it's a goofy carnival type song, lol.
My Mother used to make Chex Mix in a garbage bag the same way.
Have you ever heard of nuts and bolts ... my ex-mother-in-law used to make it and it's the one thing I miss from her lol... been trying to find a good recipe for it... I know that uses Chex cereal, pretzels nuts and different crackers ... And I know you use like a bottle of liquid smoke and there was butter involved and some others seasonings but I can't ever seem to find the right recipe but.... oh my God how I could shovel that into my face 😅 lol
And I remember it being like baked in the oven or she sometimes used a Crock-Pot
Please post if you find it!!
What did you do with the leftovers?
Whoever invented this recipe (not Emmy) wasn’t thinking straight 😂
Garbage bag crackers 😁🤩🤣 It might be tasty, but disgusting name. She made Indian version called MIXTURE that is very popular snack in India. So many varieties are available in Mixture. If you crush a few pieces of loddoos in it, then it tastes HEAVEN. 😋😋😋👍👀🤸🤸
Your voice sounds different. Did you get a new microphone?
Yall need to calm down. 1 experiment in a trash bag isn't gonna kill you. 😅
But the The WHOLE bottle of oil? ☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️
Hehehe
I've watched your vids for a long time so I can't remember if you've ever done the chex, shoyu, furikake mix? I LOVE that one ~
Is it just me or Emmie's voice sounds deeper?
mix the 2 bags for a great movie binge weekend!
I like the sweetness of the wheat thins
in my home ec class in middle school, we made a version of "trash," but instead of butter and savory seasonings, you added chocolate syrup and powdered sugar.
