- Julia Hartley-Brewer reacts to women’s rights campaigner Maya Forstater saying she is being investigated by the police for saying a trans GP enjoys examining women.
Forstater, who worked as a tax expert at the Centre for Global Development, an international think tank, was sacked after tweeting that transgender people cannot change their biological sex.
JK Rowling described the backlash against her for supporting Ms Forstater as “vicious”.
Julia says: "The idea it is somehow a hateful thing to do to state biological fact and that should be punished in law has become normalised!"

@@culturevulturepapi8948imagine if you will that you’re a female (not sure of your gender but let’s continue) and let’s say that I’m your GP that’s a biological male but passes as a female and wears the attire for you to not think otherwise so the problem is now that you don’t know that I’m a male because of the aforementioned but then what happens when you find out that I am in fact a male and have seen you at your most vulnerable self through an examination would you be happy about the situation?! Because after all you thought you were being examined by a woman but wasn’t and there lays the problem.
If a passing male GP examined me without my knowledge I would feel absolutely violated.

Consent is only valid if it is INFORMED. Clearly, patients in this case should be aware of the GP's trans status otherwise their consent is not informd.

Thank for standing up for women. I have been raped and abused in my life and have chronic ptsd that could easily be triggered by a man doing an intimate examination. I find it really hard to do but I never want smear tests etc now, because she may actually be he and I can’t stop it and refuse to have a trans woman do the examination

If we lived in a sane world, the GP would be open to prosecution for sexual assault if any of his patients were unaware that he is a man. But instead of investigating him the Police are investigating someone who made a legitimate comment about it. This is crazy.

It shouldn't come to this, but women need to start asserting themselves. If they don't want men examining or fitting them, they need to say so and complain to companies that put them in the position of having to refuse.

When I had to have a gynaecological minor operation, I insisted that no men be present. When I was asked why, I said, "if I stated my religion forbids it, would you question me?" The female doctor smiled and did everything she could to ensure that it was an all-female team. Of course, it had nothing to do with my religion, but my personal preferences. But all women should be asked about their preferences, regardless of their religion.

Some years ago I went to the doctor with a lump on my testicle, She asked if I would rather have a male doctor examine me I replied no it’s ok. If I’d have later found out that she was a he I would not be happy.

The doctor MUST ask the patient AFTER advising that he calls himself she. If the female consents then fair enough. If she doesn't then he cannot examine her. It also seems like a violation.

If a trans person does not disclose they are trans and misleads someone when having physical 'relations' this is classed as a s/crime. If a trans GP completed an intimate examination of women and does not disclose their actual sex then that should be classed as assault. The fact the GP made that comment is worrying. My concern is that they are commenting on this, they could possibly have autogynophilia. I haven't read the comments and I don't the context but i wouldn't let them complete an intimate examination on me. My body, my choice.
I don't collude in delusions or consent to engage in his fetish. Working in MH for too long I've seen Drs, consultants sectioned, NHS is poor at referencing its 'higher' professionals to say the least. There's a lot of individual's should never be near health/medicine. Labour what to erase MH input and let GPs be the only letter of req needed for a GRA. Gp's aren't even supposed to prescribe antidepressants without Psych input.
