    Master all the way up, guitar volume around 6-7, then dial the amp volume to the room you’re playing in. Any OD or boosts either need a bass knob that you can turn down or just stick with mid-focused ODs like tube screamers or Klon type pedals. If you boost bass frequencies with an OD, you get mud.

    For playing at home I love my Blues Junior IV with Canabis Rex speakers very much. Best sound to me is master between 8 and 12 and volume between 4 and 8. I use a power attenuator to get a killer sound without destroying my ears.

    I got my blues jr iv about 3months ago. Killer video! The blues jr is technically my first tube amp I’ve purchased. I just got my ‘72 Stratocaster it’s first refret, and man it’s sounding great through the Jr IV.
    Down the line I desire a stereo set up with a tweed IV 😝.

      I’m getting more familiar with it, but it’s still too loud for my basement while the kids are asleep! It’s crazy how different it sounds with different guitars too. For my Strat it’s best with this eq: bass 12, mid 6, treble 3, but my Les Paul sounds good with everything around noon. I’ve also discovered that having the guitar’s volume down makes a big difference in noise and harsh frequencies. Have you tried it with any pedals?

    • @Zeal808
      @Zeal808 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@justinbishopmusic i hear ya! I stay in a townhouse with my parents and it’s always to loud for my mom 😂. The single coil pickup can be a noisy one forsure, I don’t encounter much noise to be honest. Just normal single coil stuff
      That’s a great EQ setting for a Stratocaster. I used a Gibson les Paul into the amp and it sounded sooo dark I was shocked 😳.
      Ive used pedals…after awhile I stopped using them though. I just got all these new pedals and I barely use them because I love the pure tone of the guitar amp combo.

    I had my phone sitting towards the edge of my desk while I watched this, and every time your phone moved I thought it was my phone moving and that it was going to fall off my desk. Thanks for the anxiety! Great video, though. I have one of those Monoprice 15W amps, and I haven't really dialed it in quite how I like it yet.

    • @justinbishopmusic
      @justinbishopmusic  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's like those commercials where a bug crawls across the screen...anxiety! I thought about the monoprice but saved up a bit more for the Blues Jr. When I first plugged it in, I wasn't happy, so I made this video to maybe help someone else. You should be able to dial yours in just fine...but I'm afraid tone chasing is a life-long journey! It's a fun one though!!

    I set my volume at 4 my master volume at 9 and control the volume/gain with my guitar. I can go from clean to overdriven with out touching the amp. Reverb is best around 2 and a half.

    I have this amp, I fucking love this amp, but yeah it can be difficult to dial in the tone and sometimes it just doesn’t want to cooperate. Definitely more intuitive once it gets louder. I keep the fat always on and bass up and dial back the brightness. Gain sounds better when the amp is opened up. If you have to play quiet keep it clean. The reverb on this amp doesn’t do much, I keep it cranked but it does muddy things up a bit

    I saw your Marshall origin 50c video. I bought the 20c as the 50c was just a bit too big and heavy for me. Not happy with my sound with the 20c and wondering if I should have gone for the blues junior lol but I’m going to go try your tips!

    • @justinbishopmusic
      @justinbishopmusic  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There’s an art to it and lots of experimenting. My 50c sounds best with boost on and gain at 7, tilt at 10, and Presence on 0. I use a tube screamer for higher gain.

    • @justinbishopmusic
      @justinbishopmusic  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh and if you’re running single coils, then a compressor fattens up the tone. Or a boost pedal or Klon clone.

    • @justinbishopmusic

      Just the camera, I think. I got a little lazy on this one. Today I would use an SM57 into a Focusrite 2i2. But also since then I’ve traded this and acquired a Marshall Origin 50c and a Roland Blues Cube, both of which have a direct out.

    Great video. I am from Brazil, living in the USA for a year. I took the opportunity to buy the same set as yours: à professional Stratocaster II and a blues junior LTD (2021). Do you think I can get really clean sounds from this amp? And, do you think I can get good distortion with pedal at really low volumes (I have to play lower than a TV in my neighborhood 😅). Thanks for your video.

    • @justinbishopmusic
      @justinbishopmusic  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If I were you, for lower volumes, I’ve been happier with the Fender super champ X2. The Blues JR has a very fine line between too quiet and too loud. The Super Champ X2 has built in effects, and it has a very nice bedroom tone at 3 on the volume knob. Also, a Squier Classic Vibe Gets close to the same tone and feel as the American Pro II, but it’s much cheaper. And if you want distortion, I like the Mosky Golden Horse on Amazon.

    • @justinbishopmusic
      @justinbishopmusic  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh, and the Boss Katana is a solid state amp, but I use it as much as the super champ. You can get pretty much any sound from it at that you want, and at any volume.

      I've Just bought a Blues Junior and I'm loving it. It's perfect for studio, small gigs and medium concerts. A bit loud for home use, but my neighbors can handle... an amp with a master control is essential.. it's not a masterpiece, so I can mod it freely (apesar de ter sido 5k aqui no Brasil)... perfect for the road!

      I love the guitar, especially the neck and color. Not sure about the pickups, maybe because this is my first strat and I'm a humbucker buck but I feel the sounds are a little brittle, and I am struggling to get pleasant distortion from a Blues Junior/Blues Driver combo. Going beyond noon on that pedal sounds too shrill, artificial even. At the end of the month I am to perform the solos to Comfortably Numb and much as I'd love to use the strat and sound like David Gilmore, I may have go back to my trusted ES-335 for a chunkier sound unless I find a way to make the strat sound pleasant with an OD pedal.I could of course use only the amp and turn up the master to stand out from the mix but for the other songs in that live performance I'll want to use some pedals and even if I didn't, I refuse to accept this 1,970-euro instrument couldn't handle a distortion pedal well. It's probably me, not the guitar, though. I had it professionally set up after I bought it. Any advice?
