I love when the detail in an MP figure represents what it might have looked like on the show if the animators had had a lot more money and time - rather than rushing to meet deadlines
This is a clear case of Takara’s being a much earlier release. Had this release been within the last two years, this score would’ve been much closer, with maybe a different winner.
Not to pick on this response... there are others... but it's like Takara got 1/2 way done getting the transformation setup and decided... just make the front look good. They have bots of that area that are still top choices... but for UM they failed to make it finished.
@@voodoo9449 sure they did, but none trying to do what they did by intercepting the entire cab into the transformation instead of doing like every other version and just doing a bot/armor combo.
Just to put things in perspective, 7 years ago when Ultra Magnus was released X-transbots released a dusty Scourge missing its beard and Bobby couldn’t really recommend it. Glad to see they’ve come a long way. Ultra Magnus is definitely a little dated but I think it works on the shelf. I don’t need UM to have Spider-Man level articulation.
To be fair that Takara was born in a different time when masterpieces just got started. Its still the collectors must have. Going to display mine in alt mode. Xtrans in bot.
I’m still like Takara. He looks like the big guy in your group you don’t F with. Again. I always look for Toon and Toy look. Not just toon. I like the fact that he’s bigger too. There was a saying about him in the toon. I believe it’s in only Human episode. He might not be graceful but very powerful. Again. Tak looks like he can kick A. X looks like six shot will Kill him. Thanks for the review.
Also, when you consider how close they were in the sculpt, design and paint early on and that's probably just going to sit on a shelf or display cabinet as opposed to actually being played with, I'd say the choice is primarily personal.
Xtransbot Ultra Magnus is a hard mf figure!!!💯💪🔥🔥🔥 They killed it!!! IM NOT EVEN A FAN OF ULTRA MAGNUS!!!! But u will not be disappointed in this purchase!!!! Xtransbot 👑 of the Ultra Magnus!!! I have both figures. And NO ISSUES WITH XTRANSBOT AT ALL!!! DON'T BELIEVE EVERYTHING U SEE OR HEAR!!!!
Stop shilling, Keith. Go rotate Commander Stack's shoulders backwards until they unscrew themselves. It won't take you long. And don't move the hip flaps too much or they'll crack.
I don't know, not saying I disagree with the result, but maybe the intention. To me, this is sort of like comparing Transform Element TE-01 to MP-01. It was two different times with two different intentions. But then again, I'm not a big third party buyer, so I'm not sure my opinion is relevant lol. Either way, I love these comparison videos!
Even after the slaughter it’s not worth the swap. Takara Ultra Mag has shelf presence and I actually have grown to hate the extra work for less detail the toon craze has ushered in. I definitely started collecting at the right time. I hate to see Xtransbots going hyper toon as well. They were actually the only company holding on to some detailed figures. Oh well. Great video Skully!
Okay but this figure isn't at all hyper toon accurate. Commander Stack has heroic proportions a lot like early Fanstoys. Quite different from the way the animation model looks (and for the better, I'd say). 🤷♂️
Definitely saw it coming, but I don't really see a heavy reason to swap out the figures. Like Bobby has said before we're both fans of the kind of crossover G1/updated aspect that the older figures have. And the fact that I got a great price on my Magnus means I'd be eating one hell of a upgrade price just to swap something out.
One could argue that Takara's Ultra Magnus is too old (and it is), but also there are some old molds that hold their ground better against new releases (like Soundwave vs Aoustic wave or Sphinx vs Phantasm). At the end, if Takara would gave Ultra Magnus a bit more articulation and a better design to remove the buttflap, maybe it wouldn't had win but it could be an honorable death. 🤔 Thanks for the video!
Not sure if you know about the screw 🪛 in the left arm issue. XTB looks beautiful, but 200+ with poor QC...I just can't do it. Looks outstanding cannot deny that.
Jus because a person has an issue doesn't mean it's wide spread or due to handling the figure...I've seen "certain" reviewers handle figures roughly when they want that figure to look bad...I have zero QC issues with mine...
I’ve known issues on the takara as well though. My friends can’t stand. My xtb magnus is nearly perfect besides some hipskirt issues which they absolutely should’ve done better on though. and the guy who’s arm fell off was able to fix it
I guess I don't disagree with any of these, but it's up to the individual to weight each factor for themselves, and for me, the transformation is worth about 10 points while the difference in accuracy, appearance, paint and scale add up to like, half a point.
Is it jus me or is there a lot of kick back because an XTB figure won a vs??? Maybe, jus maybe if we give companies a chance to grow jus like the #1 company grew (FT) we can get the prices to course correct for the whole market...

Good Review. I still prefer the TT over the XTB because I think he's more beefy looking and I think that's what he always appeared to be to me. MP22 had Faux wheels that flipped over for robot which I think was not mentioned or shown. I don't expect that to do anything, but I personally thought that was a cool gimmick they did to help make it look more toonish. I did not have any doubts that XTB would be TT. I mean come one I hope it wouldn't due to the fact it's almost 9 years old. I think the things I like about the TT version are things that I don't really need in a new figure. I like the what they did the Alt mode. I though would not be surprised if TT made an UM 2.0 at some point given the direction of MP. Looking forward to the Jive review. You have to play the Beegee's Jive Talk for that review...lol.
I collect legends scale and love that they are cartoon accurate at that scale, and I love MS because, honestly, Bobby, I still like to play with them, and I don't have to worry about the material breaking, and I can fiddle with them all day. I had to stop collecting MP's in 2014 after I broke my neck and sold what I had collected up to that point. My MP10 MP13 3rd Party Arialbots and Mensor etc etc When I see what they sell now as MPs with the cartoon-accurate MP price point or CAMPPP, I want to scream. I don't know about anyone else but I really like still playing with my transformers. I don't play pretend but I transform them back and forth it relaxes me. And I love my legends scale. Neither of these seems playable.
I transform mine back and forth quite often. More as a memory exercise than anything. And it is still fun. I mean I thought that was why we loved transformers in the first place?
I just don’t see enough to oust the official that I spent so much money on for this character. That being said, the Fanstoys one looks to have enough differentiation and time between releases for me to where I will probably make the move then.
Never liked the Takara version. Thought it was ugly day 1. Not a good design to me. Sold it shortly after owning it. I believe the change in designers at that time affected the quality of MP 22. I only question one part of the vid where you say they put love into the arms for MP 22....which I don't agree...There are very visible sprue marks on the forearms and the hands are not very good. MP 22 is a sloppy design. I'm not an X-Transbots fan but this Commander Stack figure is the best G1 Ultra Magnus I've seen, imo. This is the only XTB figure I'm interested in and now own and it has no issues and I like to pose and handle my figures...guess I was lucky. XTB Commander Stack is definitely a figure of the year candidate...imo. Thanks for the vid.
Seems about right. I love a bit of extra sculpting, but I think Magnus is one of those characters that even in the toon, has a fair bit going on anyway, so I don't find it quite as lacking as some others. The transformation was very frustrating, the cab section especially, but I think overall its a great Magnus.
The THF Hyper Magnum is a slightly improved version of the Takara MP-22 but it would not have made a difference. It's obvious XTB is the clear winner but is it worth it to sell your MP-22 and get the XTB version? In case of the Seekers that was a no brainer but imo with this one its a bit harder. The 7 year old one still has a good shelf presence. Ow and you forgot to flip the wheels on the takara one to make it more toon accurate 😉😄
For a figure as old as the Takara, it's still solid. Things like ab crunches weren't much of a consideration, along with many other points of articulation, when Magnus was designed, neither was the toon aesthetic. The cost of replacement is nowhere near worth it for me.
If I had neither, I'd buy the XTB, no doubt. But it's not so far ahead of the MP just posed on a shelf that it's worth swapping. The MP holds up fairly well in that respect.

Honestly, the transformation engineering should go to xtb over tt. Sure, the tt is simple but lets be real, like jobbythehongs quote, who sold their soul to design this xtb. Even though the transformation is so complex, it makes the figure clean up too well and no kibble on both modes. The transformation is not as difficult, it’s quite fun. No that the review wasn't worth watching.... but for me all it takes is looking at the back in bot mode... Takara looks like UM escaped the retirement home with his depends sagging... complete fail for MP figure to look so chuggish. Also I think I finally nailed down something ... and I hope I'm not alone. I tend to like the toon look better not just because it's the toon look, but because it's a complete transformation... no bits hanging open or sticking out... a solid waist/side/back (feet - Bumblebee). I'd love to have that with the extra details. So if the manufacturers really want to make me bots I really would like to purchase... they make the "toon" bot and then add the details ... cartoon accurate ... toy accurate... their own take... any thing to break it up and make it look cool. I can't wait to see what Bobby has to say on it.
So... you actually paid full price because you bought the equivalent in points. Your logic is, of course, flawless, and you should be commended for your real-life infinite money glitch.

❤❤❤❤❤ JESUS IS COMING BACK REPENT OR RETREAT WE ARE IN THE LAST DAYS HOLD STRONG TO YOUR BELEVE IN CHRIST THE DEVIL IS EVIL AND WANTS TO DESTROY YOU AND YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH JESUS CHRIST HOLD TO YOUR BELEVE IN CHRIST THIGHTER THAN YOU TO A ROPE ON A CLIFF ORE THE BOAT ON A STORM HE WILL CALM THE STORM AND RESCUE YOU FROM IT GO TO CHRIST BEFORE ITS TO LATE ❤❤❤❤❤
Thats why i bought my XTB Magnus for only $50 using my showzstore points. I buy showzstore points for $100 a month
So... you actually paid full price because you bought the equivalent in points.
Your logic is, of course, flawless, and you should be commended for your real-life infinite money glitch.
@@GareWorks why thank you. I dont have time to spend over $100 on MPs
