The banana thing is a myth - Anne Reardon on ‘How to Cook That’ did a series of experiments and then explained why all this wrapping the tops is bunkum.
Yes! The ripening process is already started when they export them so there’s no real way to stop. Super informative video if anyone wants to get into it that deep 😂
I've been following you since Julia was born, so about... 9-10 years...? Woah But I just want to say that I love how you haven't changed at all, you're exactly your same goofy self you've always been and I LOVE your relationship with Chris - so SO genuine and just very wholesome 🥰
I’ve been following her since she and Chris got engaged! I remember finding her channel and the most recently uploaded video was just text on a screen where she was just updating her followers that he’d proposed on their trip to Rome (I think that’s where they went, not 100% sure anymore lol)
We love Kodiak Cakes! We switched over a year ago to the brand to add more protein to my toddler’s diet. I found out that over mixing it makes the pancakes more dense. We use water and vanilla then mix to just incorporated and it makes them fluffier
Warning to anyone trying the Kodiak Cakes, they use green pea protein for the boost of protein. If you're allergic to peanuts (and green peas), look at the ingredients before you eat it. I've been burned by these 😭 Peanuts and green peas are both legumes, so that's where the connection is lol
Just wanted to say something about the electric kettle. I too love pourover and so I recently got an electric gooseneck kettle, however mine was like 45 dollars on Amazon and works wonderfully. It heats up the water so quickly and looks so similar to the one you tried that until I saw the price thought the one you were trying was the one I had😂 anyway just thought I'd add a more affordable option! Loved the video
Yeah me too. Ours has all the features that this expensive kettle has like the different temperatures. Ours was around the same price point as yours except ours. It beeps well and has a "hold" to keep the water hot. This one Rachel is testing is way too expensive. It doesn't do anything that a basic electric gooseneck kettle can. It's just prettier.
I also have something very similar from Amazon and it works perfectly- and I'm definitely more of a coffee nerd. There's no need to pay $200 for a kettle!
I have a pour over from Starbucks that has a separate little water tank on top, so it drips out slowly on it's own, and you can use a regular kettle with it, would recommend!
I've been a nanny for my "day family" for 5 yrs now, and they've always had me use Kodiak Cakes for the boys' waffles and pancakes. I always sub the water with milk and egg. Sometimes I add choc chips, blueberries, or bananas. They love them. You should try it in a waffle maker.
The Kodiak pancake batters are runnier than like a “complete” pancake mix. But they do form pancakes and they are thick. Before I got pregnant, I was doing Weight Watchers and Kodiak pancakes are very WW friendly and they are super filling. I also really enjoy the blueberry cup.
@@musclesmountainsandmascara yes but if you follow the directions they do come out runny but the runny batter doesn’t matter because they still come out as thick pancakes. That’s what I’m trying to say. The batter is supposed to be runny
I use a shamrock farm's protein shake with the Kodiak waffle/pancake mix and then make waffles, and it is sooo good! I always use half the amount of liquid they say to use. I will use the chocolate or vanilla protein shake. I've done pancakes as well, but I like waffles more than pancakes.
Christopher is so funny and I had to do a double take. I thought you forgot to put pants on when you were using your new kettle and making your coffee. Went back and saw you were wearing tan pants. I literally panicked for you 😅. I’m with Christopher that I too prefer a crispy pancake. Yum
Because of the protein content of Kodiak cakes, you can let the thinner batter rest and it will develop more thickness or viscosity after a few minutes. Just fyi. I usually mix according to box ratios and let the batter rest while I heat up the pan and prep butter. By the time the pan is hot enough, the batter has thickened.
Tip for gluten free baking, let the batter sit for a while, 10-30 mins to help everything absorb and come together. The batter will thicken by doing this. For cakes and bread I try to pre plan and let it sit over night
so Kodiak sells a frozen pack of waffles that I swear by for my "on-the-go" work breakfast! A serving size is 2 waffles and I normally put either peanut butter or nutella between the two and make a sandwich kind of thing to throw in my back and bring in the car on the way to work
I love the blueberry cups for breakfast. I stir in dried cranberries and put a pat of butter on top before the microwave, then do add some peanut butter or maple syrup. Maybe not as healthy as intended but it's pretty good.
Ooh, maybe you could do a giveaway for the products you can't return but don't love. Also, I'm so happy to be here early. I've been watching you for five years now, maybe even more!
I LOVE my Fellow kettle! I have the matte black also. There is a MAX line on the inside by the handle. The hold button is nice because I have two cups of tea at night & it holds the temp perfectly while I drink the first. You might want to look up the suggested temp for coffee because with tea it can make a difference.
the gooseneck is thinner than the average kettle, which has a pretty wide spout and will pour very fast. gooseneck offers more control while brewing coffee since it comes out slower and steadily. You want to be able to control these things while making pourover coffee especially weighing them like she is, just coffee nerd things. Though I do pour directly from the kettle, it takes a bit of practice and its one hell of a wrist workout but it works for me until I can invest in one...
I love the Kodiak pancake mix! I do 1 cup mix, 1 cup milk, and 1 egg. It thickens a little after it sits for a few minutes. I've made it with just water and it's definitely worse that way. Their berry syrup is bangin', too.
I have been using the Kodiak pancake mix for a few years now. Its the only pancake mix my son likes, which is awesome because he doesn't eat a lot of protein rich foods so finding these and him loving them were just perfect!
It's so interesting to me how people like their pancakes a certain way. When Chris said he thought the batter needed to be thicker (normal one, not the gluten-free) because he likes a thick pancake it occurred to me how different people's tastes are. I can't STAND thick pancakes. Don't ask me why. I love muffins and cake so it's not like I don't like thick things but pancakes shouldn't be thick 🤣. I like mine to be pretty flat so it makes me wonder if I'm the odd one out and everyone else likes really thick pancakes? Either way I think one of the beautiful things about pancakes is that you can always thin them down or make them thicker depending on what you like. It's cool that you don't have to commit to just one way or the other LOL.
I thought I preferred thin pancakes because most thick pancakes are so dense. It wasn’t until I stopped overmixing the batter that I realized that I love thick pancakes. Pancake batter should still have clumps. If you let it rest for 10 minutes, those clumps will hydrate and it results in a thick but very soft pancake.
I tried Kodiak cakes for the first time a couple of months ago and was so surprised how much I loved it! Their pancake mix was shockingly easy and cooked so well, my whole family loved them
I think the banana thing is ridiculous and useless - BUT for testing I would have kept the bunches of bananas separate from each other, in case the gasses from the one affected the other
Being from where Kodiak cakes started, we like to add cottage cheese, vanilla, cinnamon, and egg whites to kick up the protein and flavor 😋 Oh and top it with vanilla Greek yogurt instead of syrup. Thank me later
Yes pretty much. I base it on how thick I like my batter. I would say I add 1/4 cup of cottage cheese. And 3 tbsp or so of egg whites. 1 full scoop of protein powder. I add water if it’s too thick and more Kodiak cakes if it’s too thin. Hope this helps 😊
We’ve had our Fellow kettle for years and love it, but it is also the only electric kettle we’ve owned. I use it daily for various hot beverages at different temps, and we use it regularly for gong fu style tea services where keeping the water hot for long periods is necessary. It is easy to overfill though, I wish the max fill line was a little easier to see because it will boil over or leak if overfilled. I also really like the Kodiak frozen waffles and the double chocolate microwave muffin cup, but am not a big fan of the pancake mix. Fun video, as always. ❤️
The gooseneck kettle makes for a more controlled, slower flow of water rather than flooding the coffee like the regular kettle would. Helps with the flavor extraction and time the grounds are in contact with water
Fab video as always Rachel. Would love to see more gluten-free videos as you’re so familiar with it. Recipes or things you can buy and get your celiac family involved too. 💕💕
Kodiak pancakes are just made with the measurements indicated on the box. My husband eats them a couple times a week. Don't over mix them. They are light and fluffy and my husband won't use any other kind. I make muffins with them all the time.
I never knew that about Kodiak cakes! I found them when I was working with a personal trainer. I could not get my protein up, and I needed that protein in order to lose weight. I make the cups with Fairlife milk that adds more protein as well. I absolutely love their frozen pancakes, when I was struggling with cooking meals these were very helpful! ❤
I need more protein in my life and I am so excited to see someone I trust for reviews review the Kodiak cakes as I know no one who eats them and they are at costco so I have been waiting for this!
I LOVE the Kodiak cups. They’re great for me to toss in my lunchbox to throw in the hospital microwave at work or for a quick light but protein rich snack before the gym. And I imagine those little tong things would be good for someone in a small apartment or someone starting out living on their own for the first time ☺️
I used to get Kodiak products occasionally but I haven't had them in a while. I didn't know they had a gluten free pancake mix! I've been GF for the last year so it's great to know they have that and that you all enjoyed it. I'll have to try it out :)
So excited to see a gluten-free version of those Kodiak cakes!! GF has come a long way. Milk & eggs is pretty normal for GF pancake mix. We get Bob's Red Mill. I'm interested in checking those out. I usually have to add more mix than they say to my GF batter. $44 for "any tongs"! OH MY!

We bought Kodiak cakes at Grocery Outlet this summer and LOVED them. Got great consistency using the directions on the box (like, frothy/foamy batter that came out perfectly crispy/cakey in hot butter). I haven't seen them in stores near me since, but would have bought them full price if I had. Definitely not a ton in a box, but really good portions for a protein-fortified product.
didn't know this about Kodiak! grew up eating their pancakes when we went camping as a family. So my nastolgic love for them has been before shark tank apparently!
I seen that episode of Shark Tank with the Banana Hats and the next time I went to Walmart I saw they had little plastic things on top of their bananas too which they never had before.
The cold kills oder so using the product did nothing at the time. My boys used to have really stinky feet and someone told us to put the shoes in plastic bag and shove them in the freezer over night, or outside and the smell would be gone. Haven't had sticky shoes in my house for a few years. It's been nice.
I am celiac and the gluten free Kodiak mix is SO GOOD! I eat it every morning! This is how I make mine: I mix 1/2 cup of mix with half a banana (or 1/4 cup Greek yogurt), 1/3 cup milk of choice (i use almond), and 1 egg. I then microwave it for 3 minutes. I top it with fruit and syrup. Soooo good! My all time favorite breakfast!
We love using a mini waffle maker to make a ton of kodiak cakes and then fridge them for quick breakfasts for early soccer mornings. Pop them into the toaster and we're out the door.
At the risk of sounding like a total coffee snob, the best way to do a pour over in a chemex is to weigh your water in ratio to how much grounds you use. For chemex (what Rachel is using), I like to do 45 g of coffee grounds, then bloom with 150 ml of water for 1 min, then slowly pour the water for another minute and 30 seconds until you reach 700ml total. This gives much more consistency and flavor, and won't leave you with watery coffee. The gooseneck allows you to have much more control over the pour speed, so you can be precise about the weight and time!
OMG Rach tonight I tried the boba kits from J-Way. The taro and the cinnamon apple pie with brown sugar boba were both amazing, and the fruit version I bought didn't get picked, but is at my friend's house for her daughter to try. I think you should give each flavor a try and see which one you think is the best.
My husband and I have eaten Kodiak Cakes in the past and really enjoyed them. The cups are helpful when we go on vacation and he wants a quick breakfast before we leave the hotel room. 😊
I recently watched a reel on insta about prolonging shelf life of foods and he said that you have to wrap the banana stems individually and keep them from other fruit 🤷🏼♀️ I had no idea about the history of Kodiak. That’s so cool. I have used their mix in a while but I do remember that I had to add more mix to it to thicken it up a bit.

I love Lauren’s t-shirt! 😍
The cold kills oder so using the product did nothing at the time. My boys used to have really stinky feet and someone told us to put the shoes in plastic bag and shove them in the freezer over night, or outside and the smell would be gone. Haven't had sticky shoes in my house for a few years. It's been nice.
I have loved Kodiak since the beginning. My favorite is the dark chocolate. I make waffles and spread peanut butter on it. Really good!
I am celiac and the gluten free Kodiak mix is SO GOOD! I eat it every morning! This is how I make mine:
I mix 1/2 cup of mix with half a banana (or 1/4 cup Greek yogurt), 1/3 cup milk of choice (i use almond), and 1 egg. I then microwave it for 3 minutes. I top it with fruit and syrup. Soooo good! My all time favorite breakfast!
I have been for at least a decade, making crochet banana hats. They keep fruit flies away better than anything in my opinion.
Apples make bananas ripen more quickly
I’m watching right now I had stuff in the microwave. Your microwave went off and I thought it was mine. I went in to check it and mine was off.😂
We love using a mini waffle maker to make a ton of kodiak cakes and then fridge them for quick breakfasts for early soccer mornings. Pop them into the toaster and we're out the door.
I love Kodiak cakes! And the kids eat them and love them too!
Kodak cakes is my favorite! They also have oatmeal as well and it’s delicious 😋
I buy the Kodiak frozen waffles and LOVE them.
My husband and i love the Kodiak cakes. Always make them with bananas. The choc chip is the best even without banana!
Nanna hats aren't unreasonable but also make banana milshakes!! its amazing and you can too add strawberries
I love the Kodiak brand! My college roommate put me on and I've been buying it ever since. Their frozen waffles are really good too.
Idk why it was driving me crazy that you only referred to them as a bunch of bananas one time. Im yelling BUNCH at my phone lol
I love Kodiak!! I’ve only make waffles with the mix and I think they are so yummy. Especially, the chocolate chip flavor!
My husband and I have eaten Kodiak Cakes in the past and really enjoyed them. The cups are helpful when we go on vacation and he wants a quick breakfast before we leave the hotel room. 😊
I love Kodiak cakes! I buy the chocolate pancake mix and just do a half cup + a little water (I never measure). Sooo good!
I recently watched a reel on insta about prolonging shelf life of foods and he said that you have to wrap the banana stems individually and keep them from other fruit 🤷🏼♀️
I had no idea about the history of Kodiak. That’s so cool. I have used their mix in a while but I do remember that I had to add more mix to it to thicken it up a bit.
