    Having listened to my co worker talk about this oven I was interested but out of my price range. She bought it liked it but it didn't fit on their counter so after 2 mobths she sold it to me for under a hundred dollars. After using it for 3 weeks I love it! But she couldn't find the instructions and videos like yours are helpful as to the usefulness and value.

    Finally a real world review from someone NOT pushing a unit they got for free. Thank you so much. I feel more comfortable pulling the trigger now.
    * I passed on the analog model because you can't just turn off those spring loaded timers.

    thank you so much for this great video! i love my red one too! the only thing i haven't tried is the dehydrator. oster should support you to do a 'show & tell' on how to use ALL the functions in practical terms. i am gonna put the bug in their ear. in fact you should be doing the majority of reviews for manufacturers. your voice is steady & clear, not too fast, not too slow...camera perfect! i'm subscribing!

    This is the only oven we use. I don't have central air and this means my kitchen does not get hot. The doors were hard to get used to. I've had them close on me because I didn't completely open them. It is deep and that means it leaves very little room at the front of the counter.
    Otherwise, I love it!

    Love mine. Have two actually. One I got at about $129, I believe, and the 2nd one for $10 at a garage sale. That one went into our R.V., but is exactly like the kitchen one. Only thing I am not crazy about it not being able to turn the light off when something is inside, and the timer going off when you could use more time. Have to remember to be close by and add more time so it doesn't shut off and have to reset everything again. Otherwise, used daily and loved. Hubby loves making his cornbread in the cast iron pan..always makes my mouth water! It does get a lot hotter than the big oven we have, so have to keep that in mind with what I am baking or cooking.

    Oster should really pay you for this great review. The store across the street just raised the price of baguettes. I moved to an apartment with no gas permit, so no oven and no more keeping a sourdough starter. I have now been motivated by the price hike and this review to go Oster and get it done. Thanks!

    I've been wanting this oven for several years now. But I lost interest for a while because I couldn't get a real look at one without marketing and sales pitches.
    Like you, I use my cast iron daily. And I don't want my tiny apartment unbearably hot in the summer because the swamp cooler will die at least once. Or there will be a problem with the big oven. (I still have to eat!) The oven here doesn't have a window which is very important for baking.
    I have dozens of reasons for wanting and needing this oven and I will also be rid of the microwave. Thanks for confirming some of them!
    I have to say I am glad it's available in different colors because I think that hue of red would be hideous in a small kitchen.

    Just purchased this oven and your video overview gives me a sense of relief. Have had a few expensive breville toaster- convection ovens which broke down either mechanically or electronically in less then a year. My chief reason for choosing this Oster oven was its large internal capacity --- like you, I own several cast iron pieces (skillets and medium sized dutch ovens). About the only negative feature it has is the fact that the internal light cannot be turned on and off manually. If the light is on whenever the oven is active, it probably will not last too long. Do you know whether the light bulb is 'user' replaceable?
    Really liked your review ---- it was very comprehensive!

    • @American-OutdoorsNet
      @American-OutdoorsNet  5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Yes, it is a 15W bulb that unscrews.
      Still very happy with the Oster. It seems like the more we use it, the more we use it....

    Thank you for the extensive review! This is a very nice oven and I really like the internal size, but I have a question and grateful if you can clarify: the distance between the top and bottom rack is? You mentioned 6.8” but that sounds more like the distance from the bottom rack to the top heating element. I’m trying to figure out if i can bake 2 pans of dinner rolls at the same time, 1 on each rack. Thanks in advance!

  • @eniola01alli37

    Very good review, but is the gap between the doors an issue because it will simply let the heat escape and reduce the efficiency or not good for power conservation?

    • @johntazbaz1121
      @johntazbaz1121 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I can’t imagine this is an issue. Full size freestanding ranges, built in wall ovens, etc have some type of vent that allows hot air to exit the oven and enter into the kitchen. I doubt there’s an oven, toaster or full size, out there that’s perfectly sealed.

  • @evandenenden

    Because of the single glass doors and the swinging out doors, I don't think it will suit my needs.

    I have this unit and was thinking about installing a gasket manufactured by a 3rd party (for use on BBQ pits) by the name of “Fireblack Hi Temp BBQ smoker Gasket High Heat 1/2 x 1/8 Self Stick Gasket” for purposes how maximizing heat retention. In my view the unit is a bit ‘leaky’
    What do you think?

  • @jb6712
    @jb6712 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I have the analog version of the French door Oster, and while the toaster and the broiler both work perfectly, I cannot get the oven itself to maintain temperature stability. That is, I'll set it at 300 degrees, knowing it'll get to 350 (where I use it most of the time), but that same temp difference of 50 degrees isn't consistent throughout---if I want to use the oven at 400, I have to set it much, much lower, somewhere around 320-ish, and then can't count on it to maintain that the next time I want a 400 degree temp. It's very discouraging, because this is my only oven and toaster, my studio apartment not having a kitchen, and I simply cannot justify going out and buying yet another oven when this one is only two years old (brand new in autumn of 2018). I've got to figure out how to get it to function much more accurately, or I've wasted $140.

  • @dasturm1
    @dasturm1 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I want to cook a casserole which calls for a temperature of 350 for 45 minutes. I heard that i want to set the convection oven 25 to 50 degrees lower than what the recipe calls for. Is this true? Also, what if the recipe calls for aluminum foil for the 1st 30 minutes, is that going to be a problem?

      The surface below isn't really an issue. Our counter does not get hot.
      It is important to keep a bit of space from your counter wall/back splash.
      It is also a good idea to avoid stacking items on top of the oven and using it below ie a low hanging cabinet. Thanks for watching.

I’m making a turkey meatloaf as I write this. I’m sure it will be good. I actually took off 10 minutes for the cooking time. I know there’s a learning curve for this but with your review has made it easier to be more confident.

    Couple of questions. 1) is the Turbo Convention setting pretty much the same as an air fryer oven. 2) Heat question, do you need clearance all around the unit (Top, Back and Sides) for the heat dissepiment. Does it get hot on all sides ?

    • @American-OutdoorsNet
      @American-OutdoorsNet  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      #1 No. The air flow is slower than an air fryer. #2 Oster recommends it. We have left items on top without an issue, but I would not leave anything plastic up there. It gets the hottest on top and warm around the sides.

    Does the uneven pizza cooking happen with the convection function? Does it happen if convection bake is not used?

    • @American-OutdoorsNet
      @American-OutdoorsNet  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Darren,
      Yes, it tends to occur when using the convection. I believe it is due to the vent being on the right hand side, so that is where the air flow starts. It doesn't happens always and a walled pan or casserole dish seems to help a lot. Thanks for watching!

      @@American-OutdoorsNet so rotating the Pizza with a Peale, as they do in restaurants, wold improve the evenness. I imagine if you use pizza stones in it, that would be as close to a Pizza Oven you'd find in an Independent pizza store aside from the Max Temperature(450 to 800+). It seems like an effective tool that requires trial and error to get the results you want. Thanks for this review.

      @@rodscooking131 Absolutely agree with you on the pizza stone.
      I would say that I get different results from the same recipe ie cornbread depending on if I use glass vs cast iron vs a tin pan. I think some of the trial and error can be eliminated by noting real cook times and temps and monitoring during the first go around.
      Honestly, I gave up trying to repeat a recipe as posted on a box or a forum. There are just too many variables. Thanks for watching.

    I have had two Oster convection ovens...both had a defect with the timer knob that kept on ticking until it rotates past the off position all around until it turns itself back on again to the left in the "stay on position" a real fire hazard if you ask me. I like Oster brands, but they really need to fix this issue on the non digital timer models because I am sure after owning two that broke in the same way in less than a year that others have had the same issue. I would think that maybe the digital timer oven models like this one do not have this issue of reliability that can fail to shut itself off? Contemplating going to their digital model...maybe this one in the video.
