    Just watched this video again for the umpteenth time. I just got my grow tent setup and was having horrible temps, I actually listened this time which helped. I have an 8” exhaust and a 6” intake and my temps were insane. Moved thr 6” to exhaust as well and bam, temps went down 4-5°C. Very helpful. I did open up all the 6” openings and the the two mesh windows for airflow. Such much suction pulling hot air out that there is enough section to pull cool air into the tent from the room temperature. This includes 2 3080ti’s that were running hot as hell. Now they run much cooler and much better. Thank you so much. Now I’m happy again.

      I had a hard time as well. Once I opened up the tent a bit everything calmed down. I have ASIC miners which run hot. I pointed my 8” exhaust towards the miners exhaust and what a difference

    Just set up my tent.... after 1 week the temps in that room have dropped significantly. I have a 2'x4'x5' Vivosun tent with 1 Vivosun exhaust fan and room temp air coming in at the bottom with a fan. Right now it works well. Thank you for the videos.

    I have the same tent with a single 8" adjustable vivosun exhaust fan. Couldn't get enough intake air from bottom inlet, too much negative pressure, caving in the tent. So I moved the zipper pulls on the tent door to the bottom. Unzipped the bottom of the tent, until the walls weren't sucked in as much. Cool basement air gets sucked in/up through the tent better now.

    Great video! As for the bends in your duct work, and for anyone else stuck in tight spaces. Bends add additional system effect and static pressure to the system, which makes your fan work harder to exhaust the air. If you're stuck with tight bends try and get larger diameter insulated HVAC duct. Another note on the fan size. Larger fans can move more air and are quieter in general, but if you have high static pressure they might note help your airflow. Last thought, but in this video I think the tent might be too negative, making the fan work harder to suck more air which also increases the temperature in the space. For general building applications some MEPs aim for about 100 CFM extra exhaust per 1000sqft thus making the space slightly negative, but not too negative to trap people inside. You can scale that airflow ratio down or up depending on your space.

    • @DuDe3810
      @DuDe3810 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Also, flexible ducts, like the ones shown in the video, add friction/drag to the air also making your fans work harder. Rigid ducting with smooth walls may be more difficult to run, but it provides more airflow while keeping the diameter the same.

    Holy moly, so helpful. Just found your channel, liked and subbed. I literally just setup my grow tent 2 days ago and have been going insane trying to manage the heat with my setup.
    I live in AZ so pulling fresh air from outside is not an option with the intense heat and dust, still trying to figure that one out. But I will definitely move my fan to outside the tent and try your flow setup!
    Ps your question at the end about a bigger tent needing much more exhaust... the answer is YES. I bought a 2nd smaller tent because my 5x5x8 turned out to be too much room for my 8" fans to handle. But, learning through the experience.

    Negative air pressure isn’t always a good thing. It can mean that not enough air flow is coming in, so your fans are working extra hard for no reason especially if it doesn’t have the air to pull it out. You need to have the right balance of intake and outtake.

    I'm outgrowing mine as well. My first reaction was same as you, get a bigger tent. Here is a thought: what about multiple smaller tents? Each with its own 8 inch exhaust. I've never seen anyone mention or consider that and I'm wondering why. The performance might be even better.

    Nice video as always dude! Grow tents are a sick idea. IF I could modify my appartment office window to stick an exhaust out id definitely get one of these! Think im gonna have to wait ill im out of the "mining office" lol. Exhaust is 100% the way to go, and theoretical calculations are all fine and dandy but to fine tune and get the optimal performance, you always need to approach it practially with some trial and error.

    Is it a good idea to have gpus sitting in a 100+ degree tent? At that point isn’t it better to have them securely outside in a storage or shed?
    If they weren’t in a tent, in that basement. Does that mean the basement would be 100+ degrees?
    Or is this super high increase in temp caused by the encapsulation of the tent..

    Nice setup bud, I have been thinking of testing an idea that a friend of mine intrigued me. Recently a friend of mine wanted to build a wall-mounted PC, So he went down the local metal shop and purchased a 3ft x 3ft sheet of aluminum. He surface mounted his Motherboard and GPU to the aluminum sheet with shimmed measured blocks that he purchased to all the cpu, vrm, gpu, and its components to the aluminum sheet. So basically this 3x3 sheet of aluminum is acting as his heatsink. He mounted an AMD 5950x and RTX3090 to this wall pc and it is completely silent and runs perfectly for him as a twitch streamer.. I was over at his house shortly after he completed it and I asked him to test mining on his GPU and his max temps were 58c on the GPU while mining. I looked into it and found i could get a 4ft x 8ft sheet for $150ish here local to me and the shimmed aluminum sections he used, he bought off mcmastercarr for a few dollars each. The idea intrigues me, because im curious if a 4x8 sheet could cool a full mining rig with all the GPUs surface mounted to the sheet of aluminum or maybe even a smaller sized sheet of aluminum would work.. or a smaller thicker sheet would work better. The idea has been bouncing around in my head because $150 for something that could potentially cool multiple GPUs and secure them intrigues me.. Ive been trying to figure out potential ways to package it all together.. do you mount the rest of the rig to the sheet.. so its modular.. or leave it separate..

    I don’t have a tent but I furred out a little section in my garage. But one thing that helped me tremendously is turbulent flow. I moved my small window unit to a corner so the air kind of circles around the room. Difference of around 4 degrees Celsius on my cards. Avoid laminar flow in the room.

    Terrific video and thank you for making it. I will be housing several ASIC miners so I hope to direct exhaust to a common manifold. The thought here is to have an HVAC guy make a sheet metal manifold with five or six four inch round stubs that I can hook the exhaust end of my miners to. Outside the tent, a fan will connect to the manifold and pull all that heat out to my attic. I also have a small server room AC unit I would like to place in this tent to cool all miner hashing boards. That AC unit will also connect to the common exhaust manifold to exit AC heat. What are your thoughts on using that small AC unit in the tent?

Then I have 3 intakes for air being sucked in my the 8in-6in exhaust fans. Two 6in intakes down by the bottom of the tent and 1 6in at the top but I will have a 6in duct hose leading from the top 6in intake to the middle of my grow tent. I only have a 12 GPU setup and its a mix of RX5700 XT and 3060Ti FE. I also have 3-480 rads being cooled with 12-2000rpm fans. I will have all that exhausted air leading outside. Is this setup good or do I need more? and if so what do I need?
    I've been reading these threads and there is a lot of good people in this place and I just need some advice. The reason why I have to do the grow tent is the room where I have my rig setup is to close to the thermostat and it makes my air conditioner work over time and I'm not trying to spend another $15k on a new air conditioner in 5 years. I have no other place to move my rig to otherwise I would. I would appreciate any feedback on this setup I have on the ways.

    Running a vivosun 48x24x60 tent using an 8" terrabloom exhaust fan out of the top. Running 1 terrabloom 4" fan as intake at the rear bottom 4" with a 90 going up inside. All other ports and vents on the bottom are open. Pulls about 100 watts at full speed on both fans and normalizes 630mh/s at around 88F. Its in the 100's in my state so im lucky to keep my house 78-80F. I tried covering part of the mesh vents last night for neg pressure. The tent sucked in and seemed to stay cooler but my cards were running hotter like this. Next I'll try negative pressure with directional intake like i see you and others do. I think next topic should be what are safe mem junction temperatures for mining. With some of the 30 and 6000 series cards having mem junct temp sensors i feel like its a HOT topic.

Do you think I could put a grow tent outside in the corner of the porch and run rigs inside of it? Why don't you take one of the exhausts and turn the fan around so it becomes and intake? then you are pushing air in from the outside and pulling it to the outside. You could run the intake duct to the bottom or close to the rigs. You can put a filter on the intake. What you have at the moment is a really restricted system from an airflow perspective, it shows itself by the grow tent walls being sucked in. If you have a fan pushing and one pulling you don't need such big fans either. Your absolutely correct when you say its all about airflow, and imporving airflow is all about removing obstructions. As I'm on the subject .... putting a load of GPU's close together so the fans can't "breathe" is not ideal. They should be as widely spaced as possible or they could be mounted at an angle (think of a stack of dominos that has been pushed over) so that each of the fans gets to suck some "virgin" air and not that of its hot neighbour.

    • @DB-be9wy
      @DB-be9wy 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      He already explained why he’s not doing that. He already tried it and it doesn’t work. Negative air pressure is giving him much better temps than boosting air intake and cutting exhaust would.

      @@DB-be9wy It's just physics. Try sucking air through a cloth and you should find its a lot harder than sucking air through your open mouth. This is what Red Fox is doing with his tent. Now if he has aircon running in his basement and he wants to pull the cool air into the tent and exhaust it out of the window then it makes sense, but only in that scenario.

    One thing to keep in mind here is that a bigger tent does not necessarily mean you need more exhaust. Its all about flow rate. If the flow in and out of a big tent is the same, it will eventually reach the same temperature.
    Same thing goes for the isolation of your other rigs in your basement. Right now, your whole basement is basically a tent in itself. Putting those rigs inside the tent or elsewhere in the basement may change which cards get hot, but overall the heat load stays the same. And the ammount of heat you can dissipate total won't change if the overall flow through the basement doesnt change.
    Though you are right, if you run the intake of your tent to the other window, then the two systems are isolated for the most part.

      I really thought I needed an intake fan when I had just the single exhaust and GPUs getting way too hot. Adding the second exhaust fan 100% solve the issues. My problem now is that I've just added too many more GPUs in there.
      It's the same concept you see with people who do mining sheds, it's just one big fan pulling air out.
