3:05 in retold, you can add shift command to a previously tasked order of command. E.g. you shift command a couple of things with an infantry, select and order smth to vill, then you can select the infrantry and shift command another command without having to redo the previous commands.
For Tip #2, I personally really like using the "Select Idle Villager Group" key binding instead. It's a really great QOL thing added in retold that I actually find myself missing when I go back to other RTS. The game basically intelligently groups nearby idles when selecting them which results in fewer button presses when groups of villagers go idle.
My gaming "career" - never played anything competitive - began with AoE1 1. Have been getting back into RTS for the 1st time since AoE3's release. It is a bit funny how much this video improved my play after well over 25 years familarity with the genre. Thanks for these guides. And for doing a part in keeping a genre so close to my heart relevant.
fyi, when you use the banner, it doesnt go villager by villager. it selects a group of villagers that are together being idle and selects them all. very useful because you dont have to separate idle villagers to do different tasks, just click banner, tell them to do stuff, click banner again, tell new group to do stuff.
there is a hotkey for this, Find Idle Villager Group, exactly what the banner does. The game also support having keys in conflicts, so I use the same hotkey for fishing, Find Idle Fishing Ship Group. So it doesn't matter if it is water or not, you could jump between groups of idle economic units.
I've played 200 games already.... and somehow in the first minute you've changed my life. Why didn't I know about villager auto queue at game start??? EDIT: Still no Gaia build order on website. Gaia mains cry.
The market trick has another angle to it, tho, and it's one I often loved to abuse, but is rarely talked about. If you're someone with clean macro, you rarely need to sell, but it's a good habit to keep an eye on market rates anyways, because if your opponent fucks up, then you can snowball hard. Let's look at an example! If you take a look at the food/gold case in the video, you could buy 100 food for 50 gold. You can double your eco! So, not only did he just halve his food to get gold, but now has given you the opportunity, to double your resources by buying! It's been a trick that I've abused to win many lategames, but it's also very valuable in gold starve situations, because when they try to get back into the game by selling for gold, you can nope it and snowball with the better rates they are giving you! Happy trading.

Great video! but I have a question about the site you advertise. I agree that it shows who are the most used gods and with the most WRs, but how can I understand what composition he makes? Example with Poseidon... does he only make horses? or even army on foot?
Best way to see that is find top players and their streams, for Poseidon id recommend a player by the name of matreius, also on the front page you can see the players and if you click then you can see the gods they play
@@IamMagicAOM Keep it up man you deserve it! Not a lot of people would take the time to make content for a niche game and every creator that does so deserves it specially when you go into great details about it which takes time.
Automatically starting the villager villager queue is great! But I feel like the Norse are minorly disadvantaged here. All other sivs can turn this on and let things roll. But the Norse have to manually add dwarves in and then put gatherers on and then dwarves again, back and forth. Not only that, but the first automatic vill is always a plain gatherer, but many Norse want to start with a dwarf. So that instant sart with no time wasted is lost too. Much harder mircro for a new player.
Hi Magic! About the tip number 8, i started to play kronos and felt he is a solid god to master. Do you think it's worth playing only him for a while to learn his playstyle and the fundamentals?
For sure, he’s a great god imo, people are sleeping on him but make sure you still take a bit of time to learn the other gods, even just reading about them or watching other people play them, it’s very helpful
my own tip, dont overthink the matchups. Do your own thing, open the way you intended and adpat to the enemy composition later. When u learn how to execute your opening u can even beat an enemy that does better units then u but is not executing as well as you. With more experience adapting gets easier, a loss is just another lesson learned and gives u a better chance next game
Could you do 3 videos on myth unit tier lists? One for each age, but in the heroic and mythic age videos include the earlier age myth units with the 20% buff, if you think they are relevant.
For tip number #3, i believe you can 'shift' patrol, with the commands in the unit command UI box. I know aomgg is made by your friend, but try visiting other aom stats website, some are more comphrehensive :) I think you forgot a good mechanic in your tip: prequeue techs, if you know the timings; you can even prequeue age ups. Saves your focus overall.
How do you feel about removing bans from tourneys? Banning gods/civs seems like it works better in AoE 2 than AoM. It's frustrating not being able to see people play their best gods.
I personally agree, the main 4 civs seem very asymmetric compared to AOE2 or even AOE4 civs. Closer to Starcraft in the asymmetry, definitely feels like it would be cool to see the pros play their best gods.
The best system is what they use for DM tourneys. You can pick any god you want but once you win with a god you can no longer pick them for the remainder of that series. This is the perfect balance between allowing a player to always play their best god but also preventing the same match up over and over again.
They don't have shift queue commands for attack move right? For movement, I know you can shift queue a route but think you can't for attack move or patrol routes (chaining multiple attack/patrol paths)
@@IamMagicAOM Hopefully they patch it in a QoL improvement later. I religiously shift queue everything since Sc2 days. Plus the army select limit is hard set to around 100 I think...sucks when you use ragnarok or mass convert your villagers to berserkers 🙁
I don't know how I feel about the "pick the stronger gods" because I think at low level and for people just wanting to play for fun, playing a fun god or strategy would keep them more invested and in the long term will make them play better just because they will be playing more. Just playing whatever is good at any given moment might make you win more, but will it really make you enjoy the game more ?
Only thing I wanna know is how to set control groups like you can in AOE? In AOE you can assign a select set of units to numlock 1, numlock 2, and so forth. This makes controlling units and army's during battles way easier. I'm pretty sure this isn't even a feature in this game
I think you can do it, I set all my control groups to letters so I don’t see why the number pad wouldn’t allow for it, if I’m streaming next you can message me and I can show you
