      He is really good at the art of covering. Actually he is a darn good builder and doesn't crash very often. As a result his shop is full of planes. Terrible problem to have. 🤣🤣🤣

    I'm really digging a green pin stripe, green and orange is an amazing color combo. White would look killer, blue works as well as yellow and red.
    As for finishing off the scheme, having a star burst on the wings would be great (as well as the stabilizers and upright), simple, but adds to the look. Otherwise, I am a fan of checkers, and they would look great along the side (but I am biased on checkers, as I like them lol)
    Back to the original bit with green (white, etc), you can also add some thicker accent pins that follow along the same basic trim scheme (basically, don't have the pin along the edge, so it can have the color on both sides of the accent)
    Another thing I am a fan of, sweeping spikes, scallops, etc. (kinda like some of the stuff they do on RV's)

    Good work, men! 100 thumbs up! I was beginning to worry you’d given up on the Rebel! Do gas engines run better in the winter than the nitro ones, Dan?

    • @Capgains7777
      @Capgains7777  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don’t know what to tell you on which runs better in winter. When it’s really cold the fuels have a harder time vaporizing. It has been a while since I have flown glow, but I remember having to open up the high speed needle significantly if the last time I had flown was in warm weather. When it comes to the gasser, I don’t recall having to fiddle with the needles, but once you get it started let it idle for a while to get the block warmed up. Once it gets into the air it’s gonna get colder quick.

    • @666bluegreen
      @666bluegreen 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just to add, cold air is more dense, so running a little richer is generally needed.
      To help hold some heat in the engine, wrap the block in foil, or block some of the airflow through the cowling

    So it looks like you had bare wood, did you not prep your model with anything like balsa rite?

    • @Capgains7777
      @Capgains7777  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've never used balsa rite on a plane that film is going on. It goes on and leaves brush marks and needs sanding. So more work. If the surface is sanded and you blow off all the dust with an air compressor and run a tack cloth over it the adhesive on the back of the covering will suffice. I have used Stik It or even a light coat of Aquanet hairspray prior to applying cloth covering to aid adhering to the frame.

    Another builder I watched does not use a sock. He believes he obtains better temperature control that way. He does sand the bottom of the iron with fine sandpaper.

      Yes. Mark’s house is right in the base turn for Kingsley Field ANG. We have almost daily sorties of F-15s and F-5 /T-38 variants. They like to launch when I am recording in the shop as well.

    You have someone else cover your plane? Go threw all that work to build something that's quite beautiful when you consider the engineering and craftsmanship and all the work that went into it then have someone else finish it? I could never do that.
