My C7280 had a weird problem it was pulling in the paper then stopping or getting paper jams .I cleaned the rollers and pick up ones and tried again ,success! But the next print it was the same i cleaned them again and it was OK . But 2 prints later it was the same . After many attempts i spotted the problem the bar the 4 rollers sit on was moving sideways a fraction and not connecting to the black gears on the left end .The bar has a spline on it which grips the gear and obviously over time has worn the internal spline on the gear .If the bar moved to the right a fraction and the gear moved to the left it lost grip and didn't pick up the paper as it was fed to it .I have super glued the spline to the gear hopefully it will get a few more years out of this excellent machine

I was pulling my hair out from this error and no help from cust serv. I googled and found this video and solved my problem. Absolutely awesome even though I had to go through the entire first three steps before solving y problem. Thanks,Michael
Thank you so much! HP told me the sensors had gone bad and I would have to replace the printer, but I got it working beautifully again thanks to your video!
This is for the basic paper jam stuff. In researching various discussion lists, I found some issues may be related to Teapo capacitors used during time of manufacture. But that requires a tear-down and some electronics repair know-how. (Don't bother unless you have some clue.) If your warantee is already expired, googling "How to disassemble and clean HP 7280 scanner glass mirror" may be a good starting point for accessing the innards.
The following tip applies to ADF feed rollers and other paper feed rollers in printers. If wiping off with a wet cloth does not improve paper pickup, the rubber roller may be dry and hard - the fate of most rubber eventually, due to the outgassing of plasticizers which keep rubber soft. Sprayway makes a Rubber Cleaner and Rejuvinator ($7.82 on Amazon) which cleans and replaces the plasticizers in old rubber, restoring rollers to good condition. Best not to wait until rollers are dry and cracked, but even they can be made useful again with this stuff. If your printer is more than a year old, this stuff will prevent drying out.
Another possible issue not identified in the video: these printers are equipped with a blue "photo tray" in the main paper tray area. If this is pushed in, it'll try to draw from that instead of the main train tray, causing this same type of error. The solution is to reach your head in, and pull out that blue tray until it is flush with the main tray.
PLEASE help me! my hp c7780 kepps saying Photo Tray Problem Lift output tray up, verify the photo tray is pushed until it stops, lower output tray. WHAT DOES THAT MEAN PLEASE HELP FAST!!! :,,(
Hi - Do I really need the 2 sided printing accessory on the back to print on a HP C7250? The paper just goes right threw to the back no ink on the paper? Anybody know? Thanks
ya know what would be beautiful? if hp made a printer that FUCKING WORKED. every single god damned time i try to print something, i get an entirely different combination of imaginary problems. such as, supposedly being out of ink when i'm not, being out of paper when i'm not. the list goes on and on. the thing invents new problems for me to have to deal with every time and I'm fucking tired of it. I hate you HP.
When they work - great, but when they don't - finding meaningful support, not the generic, one size fits nothing uselessness, is next to impossible. HP promises so much but fills the computer with meaningless crap. What ALWAYS works are the apps designed to sell ink and paper. I think half their problem is that they make a gazilliion models of printers so finding solutions is like looking for a needle in a hay stack.
My problem is printing photos. I bought HP EVERYDAY PHOTO / GLOSSY PAPER. Every time I try to print photos it would say " Make sure the glossy side is facing down" which it is. Can I get some help about that please?!
+risquecat Load photo paper into the main paper tray. How you load the paper depends on where the tray is. If your printer has a separate photo paper tray and want to use it, consult your user guide on how to print from the tray.Load the short edge of the photo paper into the tray based on your printer type. If the paper has a perforated tab for handling the photo after it prints, load the paper so the tab faces up or towards you to prevent printing on it. Thanks for the tips. Wiping the rollers did the trick.

+Melissa Sherwood The duplexer can be removed but it would need to be replaced with a non-duplexer back panel that will properly direct the paper.
