I have 5 A5s. A 12, 3 16s, and a 20 and the recoil is light and smooth on each of them. I think your friction rings are either set for light loads, or they, along with your recoil spring are just worn out. That is definitely a prize piece you have there for sure though.
If you have to shoot 8 rounds in defense of you or yours, recoil will not be an issue. Your recoil spring may be getting weak, too. What a find, though. First one I've seen. I have a 1960 Auto - 5 Magnum. Ouch too!
I'm running a home for unwanted firearms. If you ever want to get rid of that A5, I am happy to help.
Now that's the coolest thing I've seen in a long time!
Thanks for the information....gonna keep an eye out for one of those room brooms!!
I have been chasing one of these shotguns for a couple of years. Apparently they are made of unobtainium because I can't find one ever.

7 shots, nice! Beautiful weapon
If its kicking really hard the bronze ring might not be adjusted correctly
Yes! It’s set for heavy loads, I’m just a wuss!
wow. Never knew these existed. Nice.
Where can I find the hanguard and tube extension?
That's a wicked bad a5 I love how the barell recoils like a navel anti aircraft pom pom.
Oops not the recoiling Barrell opps
