Binding for Beginners: How to Bind your Projects the AGF Way

  • Here at AGF, we always try to find new ways to do things; whether it’s easier or it looks more unique, either way we are always trying new things. There is one technique that isn’t new to us. Since the beginning, we at AGF have always done our binding a little differently than what might be considered the standard in the industry. Instead of 2 ½” wide binding, we use strips that are 1 ½” for a couple of reasons. First, it saves fabric, therefore saves money, and second, it still looks clean and is just as sturdy as binding that is 2 ½”.
    Happy Sewing!
For the binding, I used our Pure Solids in ‘Apricot Crepe.’ To view all of our Pure Solids, click here: liveartgallery...
Here are the supplies you will need:
    -A ruler and rotary cutter
    -Fabric clips
    -Scissors
    -A fabric pen
    -Pins
    -A measuring tape
-The project that you plan to bind
    -Matching fabric for your binding

Love a narrower binding, especially for small quilts. Also love your clear instructions! Thank you!

Like the other message noted, it would be ok for a piece that wouldn’t be washed much but I don’t feel this binding would hold up to years of washing & loving! I do love AGF though!

I can see that this is especially good for wall hangings or table runners and placemats. It seems that it would not be as durable on quilts that will get a lot of wear. Still, AGF fabrics are such quality that may not be an issue.
