- I wanted to try my new checkering tool set so I quickly made a new joiner's mallet. I know I failed making the checkering patterns on the handle but it was a good experience and now I want to do better!
Well, the time will tell!

If you are interested in my joiner's mallet, please let me know. I'm really planning to make some mallets to fund raise money for my TH-cam channel. Maybe.

I finally got caught up. Now I've seen all your videos. I really enjoy your woodworking and your narration style. It's been really cool watching your skills progress. Keep up the good work.
Thank you! There is going to be at least one more video this year:) Hopefully you can comeback and enjoy it, too!
Welcome back YRTI, good to see more videos.
Thank you! It's just about a month but I was completely away from woodworking so I'm fresh now!
you inspire me to make progress on my own woodworking journey!
Thank you. This comment from you inspires me to make progress on my own woodworking journey, haha!
Nice mallet! Really liked the purple heart insert.
Thank you as always. I generally like to use purple heart as a small accent like that!
Great project YRTI, best of luck on the Rocker Challenge!
Thank you! I said I will try it but I really have no idea about what to make, haha!
I really enjoy your videos. They’re a joy to watch
Thank you, my friend:)
I like your style of videos quite well. Can't speak for the others but I find the video is clear and well paced and the voice over describes your work well. I found that it depends on the work as to whether I prefer an angled or square mallet. Angled for close in work where I'm tapping the ends of chisels or gouges. Square for more open work or persuading joints to go together. Wood workers do not live by only one mallet.... :D
Thank you for sharing your opinion! I actually sensed that my videos kind of get to be like "Please look what I made!" rather than I share the information that I found useful from a project. On top of it, now I'm getting scared to say stupid jokes.
Maybe I need to spend a little more time on composing videos so I can entertain my friends more!
@@YRTi A joke is great slipped in here and there. Even a good "groaner" will get a chuckle while responding with a groan! Some slight extra focus on technique would not hurt. But as a hobby wood worker myself I find that you give a pretty good rundown on the "how" of it already. But I'm only one subscriber that happens to enjoy your balanced presentation. Hopefully you get some ideas from the others too.
Thank you:)
I'm back and I'll be gone again.. I really have to come up with a new idea!
First time viewer. The mallet is beautiful.👍👍 Your production is pretty good too. I thought the checkering was good. Thank you for sharing. Have a great day and stay safe.🙂🙂
Thank you for finding me here, haha! Yeah, the checkering was good enough considering my woodworking level but the mallet turned out to be nicer than I expected so I ended up removing it. Hope you enjoy my other videos, too:)
Compliment for project 👍👍👍
Thank you:)
Do I love this project? YESSSSS!!! The first mallet was really nice but I really like the design of the second one. It looks like it could be used for timber framing. I'm surprised it is lighter than the other one. The square head is what you think you would need for harder woods. Excellent job...
Thank you. For a small project, I think walnut is good but if you need one to pound harder, maple has good density/weight so I think it’s better.
Anyways, now I want 5-10lb white oak one just like a Japanese timber framing Kakeya! Haha
@@YRTi Is the only difference between your mallet and kakeya; weight?
It seems like people originally call a big one Kakeya but now there are small ones, too (at least I see many brands sell a small kakaya on Amazon JP). I don't know, maybe I guess it's about the style?
FYI, the general term of the wooden mallet is Kizuchi.
Great build 👍👍
Thank you:)
I love this video. Thank you for sharing your talents with all of us.
Thank you! Haha, talents sounds too much but I enjoy sharing things that I enjoy:)
Omg😮 So cool thanks
Thank you:)
Absolutely beautiful work u do all is very well explained and seemingly genuine. Like and sub well earned and hopefully more people will at least comment to make ur work more likely to be recommended to others
Thank you so much! It helps this channel a lot. but I know YT recommends a video for reasons and maybe my channel isn’t ready for it yet:) well, now over 5k is super big to me as I have less than 10 real friends, haha 😆
I really enjoy your videos. It's nice seeing someone working with hand tools only. Good luck with the challenge!
Thank you. It's always fun to play with hand tools:)
Always looking forward for your wonderful videos and inspiration they give me
Thank you! Hopefully, I can spend more time and be more creative on new projects next year:)
Nicely done. I agree, I've had both angled and flat faces mallets, and I find I generally prefer flat for what I do. Good luck on the Rockler challenge!
When you are mentioning it was too hot and your phone overheated, I chuckled because it was probably in the 30s or 40s here lol
Oh 30 - 40!? Well, I just finished the voice and video but the mallet was actually built in the mid OCT, haha. Things are getting busy now but I want to keep woodworking:)
Looks good, should have made a small inset pocket for the leather
Thank you! It sounds tough but yeah, it'll be good looking:)
@@YRTi you'll also have to eventually replace the leather if you use it a bunch. You could replace it with plastic, rubber, rawhide, etc. again, great looking tool
Thank you for the advice:) Yeah, right! I used hide glue for the reason!
The checkering takes time to prefect and I do it on turned pieces sometimes
Thank you for the comment. I think it's a cool and useful detail option for many kinds of projects!!
You inspire me to build my own one... But mine is not look good like yours hehe..
Thank you! oh I hope you’ll enjoy making one:)
It looks too good to use. I would just frame this above my bench.
Thank you for the compliment. I already pounded my chisels with it, haha:) Mallet making is fun!
Great to get a new video from you. I went and followed you on IG and liked all your posts. Keep it up :D
Thank you! Now my max is 16 likes, haha:) Hopefully, I can start posting a new project there soon!
@@YRTi maybe try making a youtube shorts, or some shorter IG videos to drum up some interest. If you know a "satisfying" trick, or just something that touches on the whole ASMR thing (what I just call satisfying woodworking) I hope you can gather up some views. I wish you the best of luck :D
Thank you for the advice. I like watching satisfying things, too. Just like woodworking, I'll try to extend what I can do a little by little:)
