  • I've been saying I would make a video to show how I dimension lumber and finally I made this video. It's not an instruction video as I'm not a professional woodworker but hopefully, you find something useful after watching.

I'm just showing how I do it (not necessarily doing it right) and for me, dimensioning wood is still as difficult as forming my mouth "parallel"...

i been struggling starting on projects because im so fixated on this process. Even though it's difficult and i end up with cutting too much material off, it is a really calming process sometimes

Hi Hai! Thank you for the comment! I take time on this process because a good fabrication needs a marking accuracy that requires well-dimensioned wood. It's also a good opportunity to understand the grains of wood I'm about to handle. I'm still struggling with this process but knowing/analyzing how I make a mess helped me improve from project to project!

Thank you for the comment. I have him in all of my videos(I think) but you are the first person who mentioned it!

Very interesting to see someone doing it this way. It actually feels more logic and intuitive to me.
Good job! I think that board will become something really nice in the future. 👏👏👏

Thank you for watching this, too! It's just how I do with my current skill and available tools. I still analyze the way I do in order to improve the final quality and efficiency. It'll be a long way be good at it.

With the projects that I have made so far, I haven't had to worry about this; however, I want to do a project that will require me to follow these steps. I will admit, I am a little nervous because of the exact nature of each step required. Thanks for this valuable information.

Oh hi! Tbh, I like hand tools but knowing trees are cut by machines in a forest and milled to come to me, I don't see any problems with hand tool woodworkers rely on jointers/planers, too. But I just have fun to learn/try new things:)

@@YRTi I can't stand the noise from power tools which is why they are my first choice. But flattening boards by hand takes understanding that I have been lazy to learn.

I really enjoyed this video.. There are tons of wood working videos here... But all of them use a very fancy workshop,, ofc you can make good stuff with all those expensive tools.. I relate to this much more..
Also, using power tools takes so much of the fun out of wood working for me..

      Thank you!
Everyone has a different reason to do woodworking. I'm not in a woodworking competition or running woodworking business so I can just enjoy woodworking with what I have. It's all good:)

All I can say is dimension by hand planes is hard indeed but I keep telling myself you will learn it just practice practice practice then practice 😅 and finally I'm over the moon after, just to start my project😅.

Haha! Hand tool woodworking looks calm and artistic but in reality, it's a much more physical hobby than it looks. After practice practice practice, I get tired and fall asleep and next day I forget what I practiced...

Thank you for the idea! Maybe a good thing to me is, she doesn't wear jewelry at all! but at the same time, I'm struggling to find a project idea for the next one... Hopefully, I can come up with something soon:)
