  • This video talks about the changes Ruger made to the Ruger Precision Rifle in April 2021. After chatting with Ruger they consider the changes in 2021 to be a slight generation change and refer to the latest RPRs as Gen 3.5.
The major changes are in the fire control system. They redesigned the firing pin back, firing pin, trigger housing, and bolt shroud.
    Generations of RPR's:
    Gen 1, Gen 2, Gen 3 and Gen 3.5

I have a firing pin I had order before this information and have been told there are no firing pins available for the 3.5 gen.? When will these firing pins for the new 3.5 be available??

The main reason is to add weight. The more weight help the bolt run and feel smoother.

Yeah, I'm like you Rodger: I recently bought myself a RPR (.300 PRC), and the Cabela's site stated it as "Gen 3". I had searched to see what changes would designate it as such. I noticed that on my factory installed handguard, the bottom is flattened and set up to receive clamps, and even possibly attach to a track. It would seem I purchased a backup firing pin that is not needed and will have to purchase one that is suitable (that sucks). Okay. So, when are we going to see them? Haven't disassembled down to the pin yet, so I don't know which one is installed. I also replaced the bolt shroud to what seems to be a squared-off titanium version (the latest, according to the video); the bolt on my weapon did come with the newer design, as well. All other parts are the same: stock, trigger, brake. Interesting information, this video. Wish there were/had been an easier way to discern all of this beforehand and before upgrade purchases that are incompatible or obsolete. So be it. I'm thoroughly satisfied with the purchase overall---even found some ammunition for it!

This video does not apply to the RPR Magnums that includes the 300 PRC. This video only applies to the short action (also excludes the 6.5 prc) models.

You need to manufacture a fluted Bolt for the short action and long action no one in the world manufactures one including Ruger they will fly off the shelf. they will sell not like hotcakes but they'll sell like an individual selling $100 bills for $0.10 that's how fast it'll sell ....someone's going to do it. The issue is each bolt is fitted and serialized by Ruger. The tolerance issues between rifles along is a huge issue and the price of a bolt would be around $350. We have look doing bolts serveral time but there are many things to over come.

Hey guys love the videos and ultimately is what made me pick the Ruger over some of the other options I was considering. Quick question I’m having one slight problem. The little cover on the Bolt itself that has the ruger symbol that comes off so you can “store” things inside of it keep popping off and won’t stay seated in place. Is this a common issue or something that can be fixed that I’m missing ? I don’t want to just take it off and leave it exposed but it seems every few times I pull back the bolt to load it hits the back and comes loose. No matter how hard I twist it and try to get it to stay. Please help !
