    Much enjoyed, Gianni! I've been touring for 30 years now on standard 27 inch wheel bikes, and am now in the process of buying a Brompton. It's the ease of moving across transport modes - airplanes, trains, buses etc - that appeals. It's been confidence building to see you tour on the Brompton! Good man! (Yeah, damn dogs!)

      They are good and reliable bikes and you'll have lots of fun with it and it will make those transfers, that can be a real pain with a regular bike, much easier. Thanks.

    What a wonderful journey you documented once more, Gianni! Overwhelming landscapes in Colombia (you brought a drone this time, which brings even more beautiful pictures, but is also time consuming for you). You surely had a tough uphill climb with the Brompton to these extreme hights, congrats to this achievement!🎉 As my always inspiring Brompton adventurer I want to thank you for sharing your travels and the beautiful videos you are creating! ❤️

    Hi Gianni! Oh how did I miss this?! What a lovely film! I loved the drone shots, esp those shots of you riding along beautiful curving roads in the huge mountains, a tiny bike in the massive landscape... I love those kind of shots. Also loved seeing the houses and the what the cities are like how the farmland looks and everything, and all your encounters with friendly people. Not so good about the dog that bit you - oh poor you, I hope it all healed OK and no after effects. But it looked like a marvellous trip! Hurrah! Thank you for making the lovely film! Best wishes!

Now that that you're including drone footage and the 'vlogs' to camera, just lifts your travelogues to an even better viewer experience. Everyone watching this video has dreamt of accomplishing even just one of your journeys on their little bike, rather than daily commute to work and back.... Thanks for sharing your adventure with us.

    Great video.
    I had a very close call with dogs this time last year in Gran Canaria. Was chased by 7-8 dogs which leapt onto an outhouse and then over the roadside fence to chase me as I was climbing up to Pico de las Nieves but with a long way still to go. It was pretty steep so I was moving pretty slowly. I stopped and put my Brompton between me and them but 2 of the dogs circled behind me coming in low to try to bite my ankles. Then all over a sudden a huge beast of a dog came charging toward me barking and snarling from a neighbouring property. All the other dogs who were trying to attack me fled. This huge beast of a dog, it looked evil, ran up and down around me barking and growling menacingly for a few minutes, but then let me go. I was shaking like a leaf. There were cars outside both these properties but no one came out to help.
    As well as the doctor did you contact the local police about the dogs?
    I thought you would have needed rabies injections as the dog bite broke your skin and drew blood?
    What gearing did you have on your Brompton for this trip with all the climbing that you did?
    An 80km descent would have been awesome ........
    Columbia looks beautiful and so clean.
    No run ins with the Farc then, only dogs?

    • @BromptonTraveler
      @BromptonTraveler  ปีที่แล้ว

      I was too complacent on this occasion as dogs were not too large... From trips to Thailand, Sri Lanka, Turkey, Morocco I have had a good experience with them and know that unless you are blasting at speed on a downhill the only sensible thing to do is stop! Hope that last dog that came didn't get a taste of you! Cheers

    I know you did not have to camp out but would it have been safe to do so? I have not seen much about whether the venomous insects and snakes are an issue in Latin American countries.
    In Joshua Tree in California you have to be concerned about rattle snakes at night so no sleeping out in the open. You at least need a fully enclosed tent.

      Thanks! When traveling one realises that 99.9% of people you meet are kind and helpful if needed. Maybe part of it is that as a cyclist you are not perceived as a threat or as a wallet to empty when in touristic areas….I wonder. South America is vast and I am sure animals can pose a threat in places but so far where I have been, parts of Chile, Argentina and now Colombia, the main issue was stray dogs!

    It is always good, and recommended, to travel with an emergency kit, where you can take your medications, alcohol and bandages, such as antibiotics in case of an urgent need.
    And about the dogs, you are correct. It is always recommended to get off and use your bicycle as a shield, you move it on the wheels depending on the location of the dogs. Those tips always help.

      @@BromptonTraveler Sorry pal to digress a little. The magical realism from Gabriel García Márquez, somehow led me to another movie called "The Ballad of Buster Scruggs". And its third story "Meal Ticket" , It is a melancholic and bleak tale about a traveling showman (Liam Neeson) and his limbless performer (Harry Melling). To me, the brief storylines has resonated so well? or relatable to experiences many of us feel to having, i.e. the exploitation of vulnerable people for entertainment, as well as a reflection on the limits of human kindness and compassion.

You can also even add some short interest discussions with locals. It will take your videos to a new level. You speak Spanish and that's great and so helpful on trip in Latin America.
    Can you add below some words about the safety you felt at this trip. I am talking mainly about chance of robbery and how to minimize the risk. Colombia is a great destination for cycle trip of course and very well famous for that. The only reason I haven't been there yet, is the bad criminal reputation against tourists. And lonely cyclist is the easiest target they can find.
    Second question: Did you find accommodation for sleeping every evening without any necessity to use tent?
    Thanks for your answers.

      Thanks. Will keep the commentary going then! To your question. My personal experience is that Colombia, like most of the world in fact, is full of nice and kind people and as a country that loves cyclists, touring is mostly safe as far as you don’t go to areas where foreigners can be a target. Boyaca and the Zona Cafetera on the Andes between Bogota and Medellin are known to be some of the safest areas of the country right now. Cities are a different thing and one must be always on the cautious side and follow some common sense advice like avoiding most places at night. Small towns and the countyside in the above areas where I cycled felt really safe. The love of cycling means that traffic behaviour seemed one of the most respectful to cyclists with cars but mostly trucks giving you all the space they can and more. It was the only place where I felt I should not bother carrying a tent as hotels and guest houses are plenty and extremely goid value. Cheers.

    Wonderful. You are definitely expanding your comfort zone with your South American adventures.
    I liked the addition of you commentary as well as the drone footage (which, although adding a new dimension, must have added much more difficulty to your daily filming).

    I always look forward to your Brompton adventures.

      Sorry for the late reply Peter i seemed to have missed your comment…Colombia, despite the dogs…, was a wonderful experience and place. Spot on with the drone! I also love the footage but it does take time to film those shots. It gets easier once you are more comfortable flying it! This was the only trip i didn’t carry a tent. Colombia has enough guest houses and hoteks and prices are most affordable. Also not too easy to find campsites or wild camping spots. I missed not having a tent in a couple of places but otherwise was a good to choice to save some weight on those mountains!

    • @BromptonTraveler
      @BromptonTraveler  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks. I did look at the 360 out of curiosity but I feel it takes too much time in editing compared to a GoPro for example. I have recently started using a drone which is also time consuming and when traveling by bike I like filming in a way that doesn't become too intrusive into the cycling itself which is the main part and what I want to enjoy. I agree that images they produce are nice and interesting with the 360 perspective. Maybe one day...

      @BromptonTraveler  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sorry Gary but I have no experience with it... Actually didn't even know it exist! :) I had a video in the past complaining about gear shifters being and feeling cheap on the Brompton. I still feel it is the only downside to an otherwise very simple but sturdy gear system. One thing I can probably say is that 4 speeds will be even more limiting on gear range than the reduced 6 gears I use. I don't mind the odd walk if grades are brutal but I find 6 is a bare minimum to have when touring? Cheers

      @@BromptonTraveler Cheers on your great Columbia ride! From a video distance, these new Bromptons seem rather fragile and I think they don’t have the lower gear range that you would need especially climbing 9600+ m . with all your packed gear.

      Saluti Mario. Confermo fine settembre, metà ottobre. Ideale per la Sicilia come penso sia la primavera, con meno turisti ma con tanto sole. Se non ricordo male ho sempre usato campeggi che in genere sono aperti almeno fino a metà ottobre. L'unica eccezione è stata Siracusa dove mi sono fermato qualche giorno alla fine e ho pernottato in albergo. Il Sibit ( ciclabile che se non ricordo male parte circa da Marsala... ) è un bel percorso. A volte la ciclabile scompare ma non ho trovato il traffico troppo pesante. Se poi uno ha tempo penso anche l'interno della Sicilia sia fantastico. Ciao

There must be something to it as I heard that a couple of times before! Funny thing is that I have never visited Ireland. I think it is rather a happy accident of badly speaking a few languages :)
