Grabbing the knife arm with both hands, switching grips while the arm is trapped in an overhook, knife disarms mid fight... its all way to dependent on fine motor skills, time and space. Luxuries you don't have in violent fights.
The knife vs knife grappling was really good though.

The loser of a knife fight dies on the ground.
The winner dies in the ambulance.
The best defense against knives is a good pair of running shoes and the ability to use them.
Most of what this fellow proports to do here can be mitigated by merely having a second knife... one in each hand.
Don't try any of this. Just run. Its not going to end well if you remain in the range of a knife. Its one thing to do these single moves and poses, and yet another to have someone rapidly windmilling and flailing at you in a rage with a knife.

But you can not always run.
You may be with your family & have young kids that can not keep up with you or have too many to carry.
You may be backed into a corner and literally have no where to go.
You may be military, law enforcement or private security and as such it is our job to stand and fight.
      Just to give 3 scenarios!
Absolutely, the best defence in any violent situation is to run but you can not always run so you should always be prepared to fight.

@@TheMegaAsh In those cases, God help you. Odds of getting at least some slices or pokes are high. As a last ditch resort for survival I do carry a knife, but its my 4th defense. My defenses are
      1) Situational awareness
      2) Running away
      3) My carry gun
      4) My carry knife
I guess another kind of defense a person could have, if they have access to it, is wealth, inherited or earned. If you can afford to live well and only in safe areas the odds of combat are small. In all my 50+ years of life Ive only needed to prevent attack twice. Once a gang of "youths" attempted to stop my car and I drove at them quickly to try to run them over. That ended that. Another time a man out of his mind approached my car at a stoplight. When he got too close to my window I pointed my sidearm at him and he ran off.

This statement is an excuse to not practice and improve in all manners of self defense. Remember, the moment you turn your back to the enemy to run, you land them instant advantage. Your opponent might be a better runner than you are, then what? Avoiding confrontation is wise, but if you have no other choice but to fight, you better know what to do. You will get cut, but you may live. If you live in a free country, you can train with firearm and carry for self defense. No running shoes needed.

The asian guy shows what is mostly a Karambit technique, he would have a hard time against someone with a push knife and who knows to tuck their elbows.

You know what would make this video even MORE pleasurable and easier to watch? Ask those kids in the background to make even MORE noise! Side note... neither of these 'knife masters' look like they ever got cut or cut anyone in their lives!

I'm sure that you your self haven't ever been in a kinfe fight or stabbed anyone. You have no idea of what a blade can do. Humble yourself & learn what you can.

If you watch other videos of Grandmaster Oliver he actually has scars from stab wounds on his abdomen. That guy used to be in Filipino SWAT.
