Love how the synth is like an ocean of sound on a dark night, the drums are like distant thunderclaps, and her voice is like a bird flying through the stormy skies, this moment gliding on the currents, and the next moment beating with its wings to cut through the winds with power.[
She's playing at Mitsgardblot metal festival later this year, and she's appeared with Einar as part of Wardruna. So she's definitely an honorary member of the metal family.
Wonderful reaction and analysis, thank you! I really love Eivor's live performance, Eivør Pálsdóttir: Tròdlabùndin (Trøllabundin) from 2013. Just her voice and a drum.
There are some performances that get me embarrassingly misty and give me shivers every. single. time. Even after dozens of listens. This is one of them. So glad you finally got to hear it -- it obviously hit the same way!
I've seen her live 4 times and every time she just blew everyone away. The audience in 2 club were full of musicians/singers and everyone was in awe of her singing capabilities. She makes it look so easy and her voice control is simply out of this world. Please go see her live if possible.
The "yodel" you hear is Joik :) A way of singing among the samis. It is fantastic to hear. In the Swedish talent show Talang (swedish for talent, our "got talent" show) we had a guy called Jon Henrik Fjällgren that performed a joik called Daniels Jojk. It is a joik that came to him while sitting outside his friend Daniels cabin mourning his death. Soooo emotional, you should check it out! WARNING! Tears may show up during that
I cannot tell you how times I have listened to this version, it still breaks me every time …… she is one of the best artist of our generation far as I’m concerned, more of this please 🤘

@@VastyVastyVoid I mean, if you check on her live song " true love", the latest renditions are extraordinary and way better than the ones when she was younger! She adds so much more adlibs now and is wonderful.
I love this performance. It is a vocal masterpiece. I have recommended it on so many voice coach channels, but very few have reacted to it. No idea what they are missing.
What a great coincidence! I was just listening to Eivør singing "May It Be" from Lord Of The Rings at a gala for Queen Margrethe II of Denmark along with the Danish National Symphony Orchestra. You made my day with this reaction, thank you Julia.
even Maria Franz of Euzen (and also of Heilung) acknowledges Eivor as among if not the best at this time..and Maria herself is no mediocre belter. the past two decades, these two are making impressive music and we might not be seeing many more decades from them. im glad u helped in spreading these impressive creations through your vocal analysis. your detailed tonal impressions without going too technical about it is engaging and very helpful.
Both Eivør and Kate Bush have that ethereal, elemental, otherworldly vibe about them. They are so beautiful and their voices are sublime. I swear they could control the weather with their voices. Gorgeous and so emotional, they both give me goosebumps. I grew up listening to Kate Bush, I found the music of Eivør from The Last Kingdom series.
Eivør has a special place in my soul. Listening to her singing her more folk sounding work and the music fom The last kingdom tv-show takes my imagination on a journey (allthough I like just about everything shes done) . I find it very inspiring and it makes me want to got to my studio and put paint on a canvas.

I have known Eivør for more than 20 years and have seen her live performances many times. She is never disappointing 😊 also the drummer Høgni Lisberg is an amazing singer-songwriter / producer / composer and solo artist!
Eivor is amazing. She sung on a cd by Anders Hagberg called "Stenristarna" in 2008 i think it was. I use that sountrack to many of my flyfishingfilms on the tube. Thanks for reacting to this wonderful singer.
Eivør my beloved! I really hope you'll react to more of her songs because her voice is just pure magic! I was at her concert in November and she sounds so so good live!
The "singing" around the 13 minute mark is, or sound a lot like something that we used to do in Scandinavia, to translate it it will be called " Cow Calling " So when the cows had been grassing in the hills and mountains and it was time to return a girl from the farm or village would go out and sing this " Cow Calling ".. and there are YT videos about it, and its really haunting and pretty to listen to. And yes it is actually a real thing.

This must be one of my favorite songs ever. It is so loaded with emotion, the voice is so powerful yet so under control, and then unleashes right at the climax... You can tell she (Eivor) is so deep inside the song that this live version is, to me, even better than the studio version. Soooo much quality, I love it. BTW: check Eivor's cover of Summertime (Gershwin). Absolutely astonishing.
I am 100% backing up everyone who already recommended you check out Eivor performing Trodlabundin. I'm surprised you haven't, most vocal coaches react to that one first. It'd mesmerizing!! I also saw someone recommence Jon Henrik Fjällgren - Daniels Jojk, and I also stand by that. It's beautiful, emotional piece of music.

Great analysis really insightful - the vocalizations seems to be a Faroese folk thing (at least she’s from there and uses it sometimes) but to me it’s very reminiscent of Native American (or First Nations in Canada) vocalizations. Regardless, Eivor is almost always in my playlist. Hope you get to more at some point :-)
I think the vocalizations which you have in mind are those which remind of the traditional chanting of the Sami people (who live scattered among the northern parts of Norway, Sweden, Finland and Russia) which is called Joik (and has already been mentioned by several people in the comments) it is indeed very reminiscent of Native American vocalizations. I've already mentioned the Norwegian singer Mari Boine and two of her songs in my post a few comments below. Fun fact (since you mentioned the First Nations in Canada): Mari Boine has done a cover version of the song "Eagle Man/Changing Woman" by the Canadian singer Buffy Sainte-Marie. Here's a live-version of this cover from 2004 (video quality is poor, but the sound is good): th-cam.com/video/SjKEl6BbaZI/w-d-xo.html

Theres a lot of Kate Bush's sound style in this one.. I cannot remember the latters title ...she is however right up there with the Scandinavia's greatest artists.

it is live..
Theres a lot of Kate Bush's sound style in this one..
Trollabunden ..by the Fjiord is another classic but more Primal and the other is a recording made in an old tram and bus museum a different feel to each but all wonderful . I cannot remember the latters title ...she is however right up there with the Scandinavia's greatest artists.
Came here to say this myself. Simply stunning.
the one you are probably referring to is this one i think th-cam.com/video/IW8jTpb5EpY/w-d-xo.html

Yup Salt 🤩😍 Thankyou..
I would love to see a collab between Eivor and Krister Linder.
Wow Who is This Woman She has a really Beautiful Voice,
Eivor?
I love Eyvör - meet her a few times here in Iceland when she was studying singing in Reykjavík.
Since im commenting, id like to ask you to react to another singer on her vocal level.
It's a cover... She's Gone 80s Rock balad.
Eythor Ingi - live in Iceland 🇮🇸
i think you gonna like eivor - wake me up live performance
Eivor is hands down my favourite singer of all time!!!! She has huge range that can go from the sharpest notes to throat singing. You should listen to Verõ Min and Trollabúndin or even I Tokuni, to see what she's capable of vocally. My favourite songs from her are Rain and Wake me Up. You should check these out, you won't regret it!
