      @@DEXTER-TV-series So right, I have vallis growing like crazy and I fertilize daily with an AIO fertilizer (Easylife Profito) and root tabs and have done similar over many years.
      Val does not like liquid carbon such as Excel . Val also does not do well in soft water, mine has a PH 8 and dkh 18. The Vals love it.

    I’ve had valisneria for over 3 months, I bought easy green from aquarium coop recently. But I’m still using the bottom end of my seachem flourish excel and the plants are thriving! Good videos, but you may need to do a bit more experimentation to figure out what the problem is. Additionally, I’ve stopped using root tabs on my valisneria because liquid fertilizers most certainly do the trick for them. They may be “root feeders”, but I’ve found even more success with liquid fertilizers

    • @yourtap
      @yourtap  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Right. Only liquid fertilizer with Bio available carbon can do what I mentioned. Easy Green doesn't have that in there. There Fertilizer is so good because they know the macronutrients that plants need. It's loaded up with nitrogen. Great stuff! 🤙 The facts are correct. I wasn't showing Val that was dying. Mine do just fine. The video is just a warning. I don't use root tabs nor liquid fertilizer period in my tanks. I teach dirted tanks.

    I have jungle vallisneria and the seachem flourish has been perfectly fine. I stopped using the liquid CO2 after adding an actual CO2 tank, so I can't say if that was killing it, but after the initial die off, its doing really well.

    So how do I get rid of the black beard algae ... the only plants I have are cork screw val across the back in my 20 gallon tank with my platies, albino cories, albino cherry barbs, ramshorn snails, (3) amano shrimp. It's a topfin tank with kit lights that are on a timer for 7 hours a day. The bba is mostly on the gravel and near the roots of the plants.

      Sounds to be a bit overstocked. A 20 I may put 5 1inch long animals in there. Too much food and waste can cause it.
      Also, things like that need to go through their process. Just like diatoms that are brown. Won't simply go away until they've gone through their cycles.
      Meaning you physically clean it up until it stops or let it do it's thing.
      Never use chemicals to "treat or fix" issues.

      You asked just in time. I was speaking to another hobbyist on TH-cam. I do all my tank talk here.
      You have questions and I have answers. Depending on how long that algae junk has been in your tank ; you already did the first step correctly. Your head was in the right place. A huge water change. Next, is to thoroughly check all your Vals leaves. Any yellowing or melting on any individual leaves. Cut them all the way down to the base. Get rid of potential infected leaves.
      Secondly, I actually have fluval plant liquid fert. It's completely harmless to your Val. Only fertilizers that say "Bioavailable Carbon" in the guaranteed analysis on the back of your ferts will cause more harm.
      In any case. Lay off the ferts for a week. Even if you don't notice any yellowing on the Val leaves. Give them a chance to recover. Your Anubias will need liquid ferts however; it'll do just fine an entire week without it.
      Thanks for the question. Hope to see you around in the future 🤙

    Seachem excel is just glutaraldehyde (which most people use as an algaecide). So basically your three tips for vallisneria is to avoid glutaraldehyde, avoid algaecide, and avoid glutaraldehyde. That has nothing to do with fertilizer.....

    • @yourtap
      @yourtap  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Don't use anything that has bioavailable organic carbon.

    “Your tap water is crap”
    Wish I had found you 2 months ago. They are putting something in our tap water that just has massive amounts of ammonium, and has been scaring the crap out of me.
    Talked to a LFS, they asked me if I lived in city X Y or Z, yep, I’m in Y. They got me some processed RO, and it’s getting things fixed. Need to do a couple more 20% changes to cycle out as much of the tap water as I can. They only charge 30¢ a gallon, and for the amount I’ll need in the long term, doing it myself would take awhile for it to pay for itself, and I’d probably have to change the filters on it well before I made 1,000 gallons of water.

    I am brand new to keeping fish, and i had the idea to setup a bathtub aquarium in the backyard. I grabbed a 2nd had tub, used a soil base capped with 2inches/5cm of sand, and i planted a lot of vallisneria exclusively. I have a solar pump that pumps the water from one end of the tub up through a gravel bog filter that has various plants growing in it, and that filters water back into the tub. The plan was to plant the tub heavily, put in some fish, and the waste water would sustain the plants in the tank and the bog filter. After i set it up, i wanted it to sit for a few weeks to get the plants established before putting in any fish. And so i figured i would add some liquid fertilizer, a brand that also contained liquid co2. I figured it would feed my bog plants while there were no fish in the tub at that point. I added a decent amount as it was a large volume of water, planted my vallisneria, and walked confidently back inside. Just by pure coincidence later that day i watched a video about caring for vallisneria. No liquid co2, no liquid fertilizer... i raced outside and did an immediate water change. So far so good. Nothing melted. I still have no fish in there, and the water is testing pretty clean. But now i am getting a bit of algae because its getting a lot of direct sun here in Australia. Trying to find that balance.

    • @yourtap
      @yourtap  ปีที่แล้ว

      Algae is going to happen. You may even get a bloom and the water turns completely green. Even in a tub pond it'll need maintenance on occasion.
      If the algae is brown, you're dealing with diatoms and those are a type of animal. It's a phase and can blow over in time.
      A paint brush and a weekly swipe to the sides of your tub will help.
      FYI, fish love algae. They eat it and it's a huge provider of oxygen.
      You got the liquid fertilizer out. Everything else sounds perfect for your fish.
      Drop some wood in there and tannins will help blot out extra sun light.

      Hey there Raising Goldfish! Thanks for joining us my friend 🤙
      If you're feeding your Val and it's got appropriate light. It could just be dormant. Vallisneria is a perennial. Because of this, 4 months out of the year it'll appear to be stagnant or even completely die off on you. This is perfectly normal. You can speed things up by trimming everything off that's already dead or dying.
      I do hear this comment quite often from Val keepers.
      If you want to check if it's actually struggling. Pull one out. Uproot it. Touch the roots, look at the colors.
      If it's not firm to the touch, if the roots aren't a dirty white and more darkest brown to black and soft. It is actually dying on you.
      Hope that helps 🤙

I'm so confused on who to listen to... You're late to the pronunciation party! Lol
      I've been corrected verbatim twice now this way. 🤣
      Thanks for watching George! I'll look forward to seeing you around other videos 🤙

      I spent a week thinking about this comment. I put a bunch of thought into everything I do. I share my personal life here.
      My question to you is; are you suggesting free advice has a price and that price is your precious time?
      I'm being practical here in my response. I spent 2 weeks of my time editing dozens of hours of proof for free. I did this because I care. Remember.. . FF is an option for your precious 6 minutes 🤙

    I got to 3 mins (which was being generous & pushing it) before totally losing patience with the whole obsession with subscribers and NOT addressing the title of your, clickbait, video .....a bit lame ....

      I haven't watched this one in awhile. I apologize you didn't enjoy the video. Normally I don't even ask for subs. The videos are an extension of my hobby. I do it for fun. This channel isn't for financial gain. Thanks for the constructive criticism. 🤙
