LIVE: UAW President Shawn Fain testifies at the Senate hearing on unions - 11/14/23
1:36:21 "small businesses" and "entrepeneurs" are not the life blood of America. The workers are
you don't think small business owners and entrepreneurs ARE workers?
@@agmvcc no they are not. if you have power to hire and fire over others you are not a worker, you are a owner. There's a difference between "working" and being a worker. Argue with me if you want, but I didn't make it up, this has been around for a long time.
The Socialist Workers Party of Germany agreed with you in the 1930s.
@@IanZainea1990 let me tell you what this non worker does. I almost exclusively find the gigs, negotiate the rates, prepare the materials (mp3's, charts, original music, original arrangements, I know virtually every vocal and instrumental part, often I provide the sound system, I interact with the venue, I look after band members if they get sick on the gig, I make sure the client is happy, I'm also the primary lead singer, background singer and bass player or keyboard player. I create tracks for our small ensemble gigs where a full band feel is warranted and venue space or venue budget don't allow for a full band. Until recently, I did all the promotion for the public gigs. And yes I determine who I hire. But we are a team. (A multi faceted team by necessity. But nonetheless a team.) And the fact that the team bears my name (not my idea) doesn't make me a non worker. And if I'm not a worker, why do I do so much of the work? Most small business owners I would argue are by necessity, the business AND the primary worker.
@@IanZainea1990 do you have anything to say for independent people that want to stay independent?
UAW = U Are Welcome.
Wow. Incredible. I love it.
1:22:21 for those looking for the best part
Thank you
You should grow up and stop being entertained by cheesedicks acting like tough guys.
Only reason I'm here.

😂😂😂😂😂
Thannk Thank God for our uions
@ladyfirst you mean the same union who reaches into your pockets after you've work so hard at the end of the day.
@@ANTAGONIST1776 STOP IT! union dues aren't even that much compared to the amount of money they negotiate for the employee to have better wages. Union dues are only paid once a month also and not even over a 100.00. But what you get for your monthly contribution, is everything you need to live a full sustainable life. So stop with the lies. And I suggest that if the union comes to your place of employment Don't listen to the corporate scare tactics and bribes.. You'll get what you deserve with the union.
I agree. Thank God for the Unions
@@mdmay76 Even though membership has declined so much in the past 50 years 😂
Only because companies have closed plants and moved them overseas and to Mexico. Without union jobs most would not be able to afford food, rent, and basic for living.
Sentor Cassidy is the definition of out of touch.. or probably more accurate BOUGHT & PAID FOR. We see you Cassidy.
Ms Roth a corporate mouthpiece for sure
Fast clip - Senators are THANKING UNION REPS FOR DOING WHAT THEY THEMSELVES SHOULD BE DOING BECAUSE MEGACORPORATIONS HAVE BOUGHT OUT OUR REPRESENTATIVES.
Who else is here just to watch O'Brien and Mullins beef at 1:22:30😂😂😂
Mullin wants a cage match with O'Brien. Maybe they can open for the Musk/Zuckerberg match.
Thank you
Maybe it's just me, but for the people arguing on behalf of the CEOs and major corporations, how can your argument be a raise in wages/benefits will put companies out of business when those major companies have all-time high profits and CEOs are making millions every year? They don't dispute the income inequality problem... They always rely on a perfect world for their theories (where bad working conditions and greed don't exist)... Whose side are you on? Those CEOs that make millions don't need help fighting the little guy...
I think presenting it as "sides" kind of paints the wrong picture. I think we need to fundamentally rewrite the social contract. Right now the social contract is that capitalists should never be held accountable to their decisions which was proven in dramatic fashion in 2008 when both workers and the government made massive strides and sacrifices to bail them out of their own greed, recklessness and incompetence.
I think allowing incompetent capitalists to gain unchecked power and allowing them to prioritize short term gains over the long term health of society and the country is what made America lose so much of it's economic lead in the world.
In many ways the US right now through anti-communism has become very similar to the USSR. Where a couple of out-of-touch elites make all kinds of bad decisions with little to no pushback. Unions and government regulations are needed because capitalists are also human and so make bad decisions. Unions and regulations exist to protect people against the bad decisions of corporations from the fallible humans in charge of them. In the government we also have a system of checks and balances because we recognize that humans are imperfect and so the system is meant to account for this. Why should we treat corporations any differently?
The way I see it unions serve to check the power of corporations in the same way the house of representatives serves to check the power of the executive branch.
All I can say is, don’t forget about the artists like architecture, video game, designer, graphic, designer, actors, actresses, background actor in actresses, people who build sets people who hold a video camera to make the movie people who do nail art make up hair and for the small businesses, if you make a monopoly of a small business, for example, Walmart, McDonald’s Kentucky fried chicken the owner how to pay property taxes for every single one of those businesses but if you’re a small business and you’re just in one state or one country and you have just one property, then that’s a different story don’t forget about bridal consultants and wedding planners
The Senator from Oklahoma has no business being in government.
Hope the Gov doesn’t stick it to the UAW like they did to the RailWorkers .
Thankyou Shawn
1:22:07 for the only reason you are here
General Motors didn’t like that contract. That was fain show not what the people was asking for
Myllins got his business after his dad died when he was 18.. most likely never worked in the business and most likely not married, his dad a had business of about five plumbers.. after he got the business is when he started mma
I take it you're not planning to attend any senate hearings.
A lot of really good dialogue in here. Shame that the pick-me social media opportunists get the traction for literally THE PETTIEST of bs.
It's almost like these people shouldn't be in this position in the first place.
It’s almost like he knew if he acted like a child the noise would drown out the signal.
There's more wealth in that room than the working class can ever have including the union representatives who make millions so I'd really STFU about any of these people actually wanting to fight for the working class because none of them do.
What a lie! Fain again makes less that 200K a year. It’s public knowledge. Quit spreading stupid ltRump lies.
Senator Mullins is not mature enough or professional enough to be in the Senate. They should demand his resignation.
Hey Bernie, one of the biggest reasons we have to have both parents working, full-time to make ends meet is because some out of control socialists have Tax the hell out of us
taxes were higher 50 years ago when a single income was enough. You dum dum.
Sure, let's not blame corporate greed that is destroying capitalism.
What about our pa days and vacation days our management won't alow us to use them. Last I knew they were a uaw benefit.
It's a bulls..t contract. I'm local 685 kokomo
Fain 2024 💪🏻
Union proud!
I learned a new worker rights Senator today. Senator Casey exposes the greed mentality of corporations and businesses in general. Regardless of industry, the big business wants more of the profit for themselves without thought or concern of the average person. The erosion of the equity of these profits for the workers, ensures no American can afford your goods or services.
But also I wonder how much their unchecked power has played a role in the deindustrialization of America. I mean they have had almost unchecked power for a long time and if Covid is any indication they build an economy so top heavy it falls apart with the tiniest breeze. Also in 2008 it's also obvious they will never take responsibility for their failures no matter what.
So I consider the megacorps losing power as a very positive development. They had 40 years to build a great country for all and they failed.
Fain needs to run for President!
their cutting our jobs which were supposed to be protected, so stfu
Hopefully this guy doesn't get beat up by any GOP Senators while he's there
Social security medical Day Care.. expand the program puts doctor nurses caseworker to work
This Senator Mullins needs to be censored for his attitude trying to attack a person who is witnesses...this senator needs to get reprimanded he represents the Union of the USA so for this Senator to disrespect this Man from the Union... PPL needs to be upset with this senator NOW immediately .
@aglady4032 nahhh Senator Mullins just showed the world what witnesses are bought before the American people. Witnesses in the form of union leaders who are all talk and no bite who talk big game on the internet but then when our challenged in front of their face back down like little b*tches
Shawn Fain is the greatest President the US has seen in many decades.
No, thank you. I hated the airport job with the wheelchair. I damage my whole entire body. I am not going back to that job. I hated airport job I hate labor jobs. I support the people who work those jobs all day long but seriously I personally cannot do it. I’m not built for that kind of job. I have disabilities. I’m done with labor jobs. Like that. No way with my epilepsy. There is no way. I’m not doing it. No thanks.
Know that I support unions because my family is a mix of unions and corporate, but we are not billionaires. We are just middle class people who work every day all different kinds of jobs I have a disability I want more education I want Collison greasewood, myself and I don’t want to work for some company like airport or anything like that any more I’m done with that.
38 minutes it gets good too
I guess the suppliers that feed the big three dont even count. I work for a gm supplier and i make $15.00 per hour driving a forklift. I will top out at $20.00 per hour and this will take 9 years

39:40 so Stellantis paid someone off. Hmmm. That was somehow to tbe workers benefit? And the petty list of perks is laughable compared to corporate corruption and military contracts.
That’s not true you can get things out of a four year college
NOBODY WANTS A USELESS EV!!!!
Cassidy is one reason we need the Pro Act
@mikemccullough7045 right more government overreach more government reaching into your pockets😂$
One ironic thing is that in many ways the US economy resembles that of the USSR. Where you have a handful of out-of-touch elites making all kinds of bad decisions and having too much power to be held accountable for any of them.
Unions are needed cause corporations make bad decisions sometimes and the idea that giving corporations unchecked power is good feels a lot like arguing for the divine right of kings. That a small group of elites knows better than the unwashed masses.
The USSR in my opinion failed because the state got way too much unchecked power and the US is kind of doing the same thing just with the private sector. I think there needs to be a balance of power between private corporations, government institutions and popular institutions like churches and unions. Right now the US government needs more power to balance out the power of the corporations.
For example oil, energy and the railroads should all be nationalized.
@@MrMarinus18 i would call for that of the country was falling on its knees and china was about to invade or another country but that not happening anytime soon.
@@ANTAGONIST1776 The idea that corporate elites are somehow more virtuous than government elites is pretty silly.
And also the PRO act wouldn't be "more" government overreach. There is next to none in the corporate sector.
In other sectors the government absolutely has overreached itself like the prison industrial complex, police state and espionage.
So maybe it should come linked together. That the PRO act comes with a significant scaling down of the war on drugs and the prison industrial complex. That way the government will remain roughly the same size.
Unions are not necessary, it’s a real terrible day when the employees hate the company and employees hate the company. Very sad.

The democratic votes
The contract negotiations

wdym? its collective bargaining. if a contract isn't fair it can go to court.

The lady at 36:00 didn't make any sense. What did the UAW strike with the Big 3 have anything to do with farming? lol and then she's talking about EVs like the UAW what's that to be the future lol 😆 The UAW is just trying to keep the jobs that are going to be EV jobs. She's also saying people are afraid of unions because they know where they live and where their kids go to school lmao. Like they're going to go find your kids and do something if you don't pay union dues 😂 Ridiculous!!
@ere4449 I think you need to go talk to a farmer and read a book. Because I understood her very well and it's not hard to understand. But let me explain it and or dumb it down for you. She saying farmers rely on combustible engines aka gas and diesel engines because farmers use tractors and other heavy equipment on their farm properties and Eevee is not up to par with traditional gas and diesel engines for the workload that the farmers take on every day. Also Union intimidation has happened before to other members
I though I heard that right. I didn’t get it.
@@Ja5onASmith You heard what right ? And didn't get what? Spell it out.
@@ANTAGONIST1776about the farms
@@ANTAGONIST1776😂😂😂 The UAW negotiations contracts with the big 3 Auto Workers have nothing to do with negotiating with farmers. They are not part of the negotiations or part of Automotive contracts lol I'm sure the farmers have their unions or should form their own. Lmao 🤑 🤣
There's union greed as well.
Yeah but its like comparing a papercut to a severed limb.
Only by bad union leadership
When there is a lot of decimals & commas there is room for evil 👿. That’s why long prison sentences are to keep union representatives in check along with snatching everything back because it has to be decided if it was at the cost of membership.
in the day, they where good but now they are disgusting and only hurt the worker.
Is it really necessary hearing about socialist freak ? To me it is just waste of money and time.
Fain sold out Mack Trucks. Stated a record deal. Before members were able to read contract. ,which fain admitted he went on hear-say ,and did not read contract. Mack used his statement, came back to the table, and stated the final offer. So, we must vote on a contract that was originally turned down the first time. Fain was more concerned about big 3 , Mack received the shaft
He only took over in March. There are many of the old guard still in positions of power. It's impressive what he did with the big 3 in a few months. I don't see how he can install a process in that time to overhaul all the contracts being voted on atm. There is no way he has the time to oversee each of the upcoming contracts he will need to depend on people and its quite probable he will get some poor advice with the short amount of preparation. I do expect him to have a process for the next round. I am sorry that you didn't get the contract you wanted. I couldn't find much information on your contract outside of it passing with 93 percent. I am interested in what you are upset with in the contract or where i can get more info about it. Solidarity forever.
@bslygh will be going 8.5 hour work day by Jan 2025, on straight time pay( unions fought for 8 hour work day, wanted 4 year contract, COMPANY now has from May to September to schedule shut down weeks Not the July 2 week shutdown. The contract was voted in due to the "final offer" call. If we had voted the contract down, we would be unemployed. Letter was submitted from the union. We voted on the same contract that was turned down originally local 677
If Mack weren't jerks then they would just have given those benefits anyway. We should start to blame corporations for being assholes rather than workers or governments.
@lisanni.woomer-gring1450 was there any thought of staying out? As a country we need universal health care and a better safety net for unemployed workers. It's a lot easier to tell the company to shove it, knowing you still have health care for your family and a livable amount of money coming in if it doesn't work out.
@@bslygh I think as a country we need a lot more. With the profit margins on the oil companies I think US oil should be nationalized. Norway has a very successful model.
Rail should also be nationalized and energy too.
The problem in the US is the absolute power of capitalism. Absolute power always leads to bad things.
Fake news
there are 380,000 union members in the AUW, salary for the entire union is $1,969,920,000, the bailout paid 5 billion dollars to the union, where is the remaining funds. The entire 360,000 union workers paid into the union $216,000,000 in union fees. Again, the entire union dues went to the pocket of the AUW 😂. A few million bucks. He's not exploiting workers to do it either.
1 billion is 1000× a million. Just remember that
Bernie Sanders NEVER worked a job in his life. Was always in politics. Now. How do these politicians make over $100 000 a year, than become millionaires? Fetterman, another, who never worked., portrays to be a blue-collar worker. Fetterman 's family are millionaires, his parents pay for his children to attend private schools, while the average citizens are stuck with poor quality schools
Not as wealthy as Mitch.
nothing says america like a fascists getting pissy about online comments. remember people fascists will often resort to violence when thier speech is not enough to deceive.
As the 2020 ryots show
Fascists do believe in political violence. Take BLM & Antifa and the political party on whose behalf they committed so much political violence in 2020 for example. Fascists also believe the workers are more entitled to power & financial reward than the people who provide them jobs in the first place. Take the Socialist Workers Party of Germany in the 1930s for example. Fascists are rarely cognizant of the fact that they are fascists. Take yourself for example.
Right that was so childish but you would think the senator would have been more professional cause trust and believe he didn’t want to go there he didn’t. But I’m for the unions but they need to be held accountable & I mean prison accountable. FACTS.

Nothing quite as fascist as trying to overthrow the government because your a sore loser who refuses to accept defeat. Much less call on the poorly educated to riot for you.
the bottom line is unions clearly have shown to be better for America but equality in bargaining is 85% in negotiations! You should only be able & allowed to negotiate for your membership for starters of the union representatives Benifit package this means EVERYONE THAT IS A MEMBER OF THAT UNION HAVE THE EXACT BENEFITS FROM PAY TO PENSION !… HOW WOULD YOU LIKE FOR YOUR LAWER TO REPRESENT YOU IF THERE NOT FREE THEMSELVES.
