    Thanks for making this fantastic video on this 500SL great effort. Just a quick question regarding the engine variant. Does this one should be a M117 instead of M119? Many thanks.

    Great video, thanks for posting. I'm looking cat purchasing a 1998 SL500 myself. Can the gap between front fender and windscreen sill be slightly uneven? Otherwise the vehicle seems to be sweet.

    Love to see all these r129 videos! That SL looks a bit tired to have just 40k miles on the clock... Poor care and maintenance can result in a very expensive receipt

    Even in bad health the M119 still makes one of the most intimidating sounds on the road! And yes, i'm a sucker for nice original colours with myself owning a 348 Pearlblau W124.

    • @HLClassics
      @HLClassics  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nothing beats the V8 rumble, except maybe the V12 roar. :)
      The W124 looks lovely in Perlblau 348, definitely turns heads.

    very nice car with some TLC it will be showroom condition quickly, I just found your channel and it motivated me to ship my grandfathers 300SL24V and fix it up.

      The 300SL-24 is a wonderful car to do up. Have patience and enjoy the journey. Find a R129 community where you are, they would be of tremendous help.

    Your attention to details is highly admirable, the color of this car is absolutely beautiful, is the steering wheel original because I noticed that it does not have an airbag

    • @HLClassics
      @HLClassics  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! The steering wheel is original and period correct. This car did not come with air bags.

      Watch out for wiring harness issues. Fortunately there are specialists who can rebuild these harnesses.

    I have almost the same problem since many years.
    It runs perfect when its cold, then the idle starta getting bad, the engine wants to die if i dont give it gas, and then it runs REALLY bad, not on all cylinders etc. and when it dies it wont start at all untill the engine is cold again.
    Do you know what that could be??

    • @HLClassics
      @HLClassics  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Could be the CIS-E control module that governs the idle control valve.

    • @SirPierreSe
      @SirPierreSe 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@HLClassics Thank you for your reply, I'll see what that is.

      In my opinion, this is condensation on the distributor cap. Look at the oil seal of the camshaft behind the distributor rotor. Oil or water vapour could be escaping here and condensing on the distributor cap. Replacing the oil seal would then help.

    • @SirPierreSe
      @SirPierreSe 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jensegler7102 I have changed them and the rotors, inside and out, yes it helped for a while, but it was soon again the same, and yes i changed the rubber rings as well.

    Wire harness and bosch fuel pump the control injection module the disk that moderates pressure would be my thoughts

    • @HLClassics
