I had an 1987 300E when we moved to Australia in 2009 . Bought it because I was concerned with driving on the other side of the road. Brought a new landrover but kept the W124 while living in OZ, did not ship it back to Canada. Have bought several MB over years but wish I kept the old w124.

Yes the outside mirror motors both go out!! And not cheap to fix off course drive gear box and dampening system went out at 90k otherwise my 97 s420 w140 runs like a charm! But may investigate the eight suspension mounts and springs

Great video and love the enthusiasm for this car. The one thing I disagree with is the statement that this car isn't for a beginner enthusiast and DIYer. I think that old Mercedeses are great cars for a beginner DIYer. Almost every nut/bolt/clip/retainer/part was built with high-quality materials, resulting in a pleasurable experience to repair these cars in comparison to other 30+ year old cars. Taking apart and putting together a 90s Benz is much more pleasurable than almost any other old car of this era! With other cars from the 80s and 90s, their car parts often crumble in your hands, requiring replacement of said parts that may no longer exist. I'm not saying this never happens with Mercedes, but it happens much less often than with other makes. Now, if you want to compare....maybe a W124 or W201 would be a better choice for the first time DIYer than an R129, but I'd rather try to fix an R129 than a non-mercedes of the same era, for sure! S320? Does that even count as an S class or w140? Should I be looking for only s500 or s420 with v8? What are your thoughts guys ? Stay away from 320?

Lol, the Mercedes fanboys here... E38 is widely recognized as the best looking sedan of all times. Handles SO much better, incredibly ergonomic interior, sport contour seats still haven't even been bested by w221 seats IME. W140: boring design stuck in the 80s, inside and out. Drives like it looks: a Grandfather car, M120 is admittedly an amazing engine but by the time the Merc transmission has completed its shift, the BMW has already arrived at its destination. Cabin noise, build quality and soft close doors W140 winds. But no one misses W140s for how it drives and which owner today is still driven around in the rear seat? Exactly. 750i every day of the week and twice on Sunday - when the German Autobahn is truck free.

I recently bought a red Mercedes 260E 1989, from the previous owner of 29 years (since 1995) in JB, This car will be our main chariot for the JB to Singapore weekly excursion. I also have a 1984 300GD Auto G-wagon and a 1984 280SE Auto S-Class W126. Malaysia is a great place for older cars. Cheaper petrol and great mechanics and parts supply.

Maintenance records. Car should have years of maintenance records depending on how long the current owner has had it. Multiple owners... I wouldn't buy the car. Define multiple owners... I'd say...a W140...this is 2024 now...W140 from the 90's with.... 5/6 + owners...red flag for me. Title check...salvage or not. Now...seen it personally... insurance adjuster will total a car vs repairs and a buyer...shop...gets around that salvage title and has a clean title issued after having repairs done.

My father used to own this magnificent of a car an infact was his first Mercedes. Unfortunately he sold it after replacement parts kept being expensive. He was only able to drive the car for only 2 years, which may seem to be a short period of time. But to him, it was more than enough
