12:10 Raag is a term used to define the mood in music. As a whole, music represents the human emotions universally with combination of 7 surr. A set of musical notations in a special order, represents a specific mood. There are so many Ragaas or Raag (plural) in eastern music to represent different moods and occasions.

If I am not wrong .Raag is the base for classical music in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh. You will find the touch of raags in almost every songs in Indian, Pakistani and Bangladeshi musics.

She was discovered a few years ago. she has done some wonderful work in collaboration and individually Asim is wonderful on his own. there are many coke studios done with Momina. she sounds beautiful. check out her "Behperwah" in coke studio season 14. "Sajan Dus na" alongside Aatif Aslam another icon of our Music industry, who can blow you away. Uhh...no she isn't. She grew up mainly in Lahore and only moved to New York (specifically to Long Island) at 18 for her undergrad. Her family spends time between Pakistan and the US. She's very much completely Pakistani. Living in another country doesn't render you a hyphenate. As far as Canada, you must be thinking of Meesha Shafi who, by virtue of simply having moved to Canada, isn't a "Canadian-Pakistani" no more than a Canadian living in Pakistan would ever refer to themselves as a Pakistani-Canadian. Sorry for the unwarranted lecture.

I'm not Pakistani (my only links to Pakistan are that my mother was born there and my brief stint of living there for two years 15 years ago for work), but I've met a lot of Pakistanis who hyphenate their nationalities after having lived in another country for a brief period. I just think Pakistanis should have more pride and not do that. That's really about it. This doesn't really warrant that much discussion from either of us. It's a personal trigger when I see Pakistanis (I'm assuming you're one) do that.

The master piece from coke studio is "Afereen " where Mumina and the living legend of spiritual music in Pakistan will take you to another dimension. It reached 350 million view. Once you listen to that performance you will not want to listen to any thing in that day. Mumina' voice in Afereen was from another world but Rahat Fateh Ali Khan is the luminary of the sufi or qawwali music from a divine musical dimension.

By the way, it's Bollywood in India and Lollywood in Pakistan. I think B in Bollywood represent the center of film industry in India i.e. Bombay whereas L in Lollywood represents the film industry center of Pakistan i.e. Lahore

Pakistani music has its roots in classical music of this region shared with India - especially the vocals.
Scatting that you'll hear vocalists exhibit is called , Sargum. Basically , saying the note name by their pitch as they make music/solo through their vocals.

Passionate music lovers know the heavenly feeling of being captivated by good melodies. Watching your reaction, I was nodding to all of your expressions because all of us felt the magic that you were feeling "in" the moment.
I apologize for not subscribing last time (this time I did).
Since you are on your path to discover more of Pakistan's Music and Coke Studio, let me offer a brief introduction.
"Coke Studio" is a platform that invites singers / musicians and even directors of different regions to come and create "magic" (literally) together. So in this song, there are singers and musicians of different bands coming together to remake a classic song.
In fact, Coke Studio tries best to remake old forgotten songs (sometimes sung by original singer or a different singer). For example what you have seen in this video is remake of an old song called "Nawazashain, Karam, Maherbaniyaan". And the guy on Piano in this Coke Studio's remake is Original singer of that old song.
Coke Studio and NesCafe Basement both are similar platforms but (in a nutshell) they mainly focus on:
Coke Studio = Remakes of old songs or making original songs by already established singers
NesCafe Basement = remake of old songs or making Originals by newly discovered singers (for example, in "Bol Hu", Hadia Hashmi (that young girl) was newly discovered artist of that time).
Plus Director of both Coke Studio and NesCafe Basement is same guy "Zulfi". Both platforms don't hesitate to try something different.
Again, you are just scratching tips of two giant icebergs. More surprises await.

Coke Studio already got 14 seasons (season 15 is under development).
NesCafe Basement got only 2 seasons so far.
Also if you don't like to turn captions on then it's totally fine. Captions are sometimes distractions. And to be honest the captions are not literal translation of what they are singing. But of course they do give an idea of what's being said in the song.

Yes it is kind of a cheezy love song as u said wih v good vocalists and house band specially Momina who is just amazing, btw besid being singer she is also v qualified like u, she graduated with a double majors degree in Biomedical Engineering and Applied Mathematics from the Stony Brook University USA.
In the 14 seasons uptill now, all the performers were Pakistani, except in two wongs. "Paar Chana De" had a Female Singer Shilpa Rao from India (Highly recommended song to check out, some details below of the song), and "Janay do" by Josh the band, it is a British band with British PAkistani and British Indian lead singers.
Now about Paar Chana De (Across Chenab river) song. Its based on folk tale, about two people(Sohni and Mahiwal) from opposing clans who fall in love(something similar to Romeo Juliet), and the girl Sohni is married off somewhere else. Luck be it, She now live on the shores of Chenab River, across which Mahiwal lives, and she visits him regularly after dawn using Clay pots as boat. One day her sister in law finds out about this, and the song takes the story from here.

Of 14 seasons of coke studio, this was only one non Pakistani performer, Shilpa Rao(Indian) for the song Par Channa De.
It's not arabic music it's south asian singing techniques. Our culture is hundustani culture as we were india until 1947 when we became Pakistan but our culture hasn't changed. The Indus Valley is in Pakistan and india (most in present day pakistan). The indus river runs through india and Pakistan. And the indus valley civilisation were one of the oldest civilisations in the world. We actually got the name india from that as a lot of the culture is from that time. But obviously when partition happened we changed our name from india to Pakistan and today's india kept the name india
