I got into Nusrat Ali Fatah Khan in the mid 1970's and have been a fan of Eastern music since then, especially the genre called quaawli which Nusrat was a master of. I'd love to see you react to some of his work. A truly incredible vocalist. Do go and have a listen to him even if you don't do a reaction.
A few weeks ago Nusrat's brothers grandson Shahzaman Fateh Ali Khan made his first appearance as a musician and I was truly shocked at how similar his voice is to Nusrat! do check him out
Rosalie you are such a beautiful soul 😊 I found you a few weeks ago checking for REN reactions. As a half German half Pakistani I can only agree that Pakistani music is wonderful
Wow Rosalie you have felt this song with your heart. You were deeply involved and sentimental with beautiful song. This seems a music and lyrics of some other world. You have really amazed me with your music understanding and expressing soft feelings. ❣
This is the second time I cry when you cry I don't know why I cry with you. You're such an amazing pure hearted person I love you sis 🤗 Love from Pakistan! ❤ I'm Bushra.
The translation is usually very good but the title Tu Jhoom really just means you swing or swirl like a dervish. That's it. this is a sufi (Islamic mysticism) type of song/poem put to music very expertly. From Rumi to Ghalil Jibran or many sufi poets in the sub-continent have a rich legacy of awesome thoughts and poems for the whole world
Yes but the word jhoom means not just to swing or swirl. It means to swing or swirl in an entranced, ecstatic or transcendent way. I guess not all words have a one word translation.
This is the first time I'm watching one of your reactions and I must say, it's so real. I can totally relate to it. This was a spectacular collab between the legendary Abida Parveen and the lovely Naseebo Lal. Sending you good wishes. And to anyone out there whose hurting right now. May you find inner peace and heal ❤
well you are right this is something kind of needed after the heavyness of yesterday I like it I heard this one a while back but it is so good it just sounds full of life and light it is almost meditation music it can transport you to a beautiful place thank you for the ride much needed as always your ride or die Forever Eyyyyyy Ooooo
Love that you focused deeply on the lyrics & rythm instead of the technicalities. When you do the first instead of the latter, you allow the music to completely engrasp your mind & soul. One of the best reactions I've seen yet!
I love everything about this style of music! The lyrics, singing, the feeling, the lanterns and the shadows they cast, the dancing, the colours.. all so beautiful x my favourite 2 films after a heavy day.. The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel and The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel.. all encompass these same beautiful experiences. I highly recommend them if you haven't seen tthem.. perfect for a chilled Sunday afternoon! Much Love Rosalie x
Amazing message. Beautiful vocals. Visually stunning. The parable you gave at the end reminded me of a similar parable. A man falls off a cliff and is hanging on a branch halfway down, when he prays for God to help him. Immediately a strong updraft blows he back on top of the cliff. And he says, "Never mind God, I got this."
The fact that this made you cry even when the English translation of the lyrics did not do justice to the actual words being said, shows how powerful these legendary singers are. The song relates "dealing with the struggles of life" to Sufi whirling, which is a type of dance common in Dervishes. Now, Dervishes are known for their contentment in living with material poverty. They may lack food, water, or shelter, but they never get angry about it, regret it, or complain to God about their fate. The just "Jhoom" (swirl in a trance) to thank God anyway and telling Him that they are happy with what they have. Naseebo Lal and Abida Parveen put on a masterclass getting the message across. Their voices have both pain and bliss at the same time. They feel for every struggling person on this planet, admire their strength, and let them know that it's ok no matter what. They were already legends when I was 14 years old and are still legends now when I'm 36.
Greetings from Pakistan. The song was amazing and the way you fully immersed into the song was super-amazing. Loved it! This is how the music and the lyrics can be so inspirational. Both legendary singers also did justice to it and with the high quality production of Coke Studio as always did the rest. The way you fully explain the song is simply unique. Warm regards
OMG thank you so much for reacting to this Rosalie! I am from Pakistan and I was going through something similar that you are going through right now. a sort of jealousy from some people I know who are achieving new things and I feel myself to be stuck in a cycle. This song reminded me again there's no need to be jealous. everything comes on its time and everyone has their time written for things to come. How many are there who don't even have what I have and I should be thankful for what I currently have! Cheers! and expecting more Pakistani reactions from you, Lots of love! ❤ P.S React to Main Sufi Hoon from Coke Studio Season 7 next. absolute spritual experience!

Beautiful words and interpretation by you Rosalie, always love your reactions and energy and message. Coke Studio gives importance to portry as much the vocals and musical instruments, that why they provide complete translation which may not be word by word but more understandable to foreign listeners. Poetry is a great part of Pakistani culture thus so much focus on Sufi music. Cant wait for next reaction. I have few suggestions from Coke Studio S14. You're right that it's complicated but in the spirit of the song, it is an accurate translation. Rosalie Your narration and comments on lyrics were so much in sync with song, I can understand it in its original language and how it is fused and ingrained with the culture however you also added a lot to it and that made it even more enchanting. "JHOOM JHOOM"
Its always great to see someone realy enjoying music (even if the song is not to your taste). You getting so much out of that song realy made it for me. I was strugling a bit trying to read the lyrics and conect them to what i was hearing, i think i would be beter if i had just zoned out a bit and just went with the feel of the music, then looked at the lyrics separately or on a second or third listen.

@Rosalie, This vibes to me like Orphaned Land's "New Jerusalem" song, which I'm sure you would appreciate. This is why I love Music. It literally transcends language. Wait till you realise tu jhoom literally means let loose and move. It felt as if this song found you at the right time! You were expressing what the song meant.
Your reaction was so deep and your higher level of understanding the deep wisdom behind the lyrics woke me up that I should also get lost in music as well as in lyrics and fly high and higher like a bird with notes up and downs . I learned some thing today. I never get lost in music but this music might be called Sufi or Sufism probably when you forget all your troubles and lost in God and his love. That Sufi music is very popular around the world but I never listen to it so now I will listen to lyrics and music both and enjoy it and get hi.Sufism practice focuses on the renunciation of worldly things, purification of the soul and the mystical contemplation of God's nature. Followers try to get closer to God by seeking spiritual learning known as tariqa.

Great review. 'Tu Jhoom' translation is over complicated in the subtitles. In general it means "You chill/dance" You celebrate, basically.
You're right that it's complicated but in the spirit of the song, it is an accurate translation. Jhoom is to dance but here it's a dance of rising beyond our minds and bodies, a dance that inspires letting go of our existential anxieties. It's not just to chill. Not only is it inaccurate but it also cheapens the concept this song is putting out.
Or you can say “you swirl in ecstasy or forgetfulness”

Best reaction...i ever seen
