Never again, I bought an adjustable height mini-scaffold that can be up to 2.5 ft off the ground. Word of advice to any of you fellas doing some DIY projects like painting, drywall or any other finish work in your own homes. Never engage in any repetitive motion above shoulder height for extended periods of time. It doesn't matter if you're tall and can reach, get a step ladder or you will regret it. I fucked up my shoulders and it comes and goes randomly, and it just so happens that I was feeling the same pain he was as he was doing the same shit I did years ago. I couldn't lift my arms without feeling pain for at least 2 years after I did a couple of projects getting my house ready to move into. Even after getting better it can happen a lot easier and it's just better to avoid it. Seriously, it's worth whatever I paid for that work platform. I got it at Home Depot a couple years ago, and it goes for $120-160 if you get the one that supports 300 lbs or the big boy model I got that supports 375 lbs. It's made by Gorilla Ladders it's called 4.6 ft x 2.5 ft Aluminum Heavy-Duty PRO Slim-Fold Work Platform, 4 Adjustable Heigths, 375 lbs. Load Capacity. Look it up and get one or get something like it, because it's better than a step-stool for everything. If I'm doing something that requires a step-stool / step-ladder, it's way better. Get the longer poles for paint rollers, whatever you gotta do to avoid the pain. It's cost Drew here some valuable time by his own admission and I know it's prevented me from doing a lot more DIY projects I had planned, but those got postponed, then my cash-flow and desire to do it waned a bit and thankfully TH-cam has guys like Drew on here making me feel the desire to get back at it again.
This home is gorgeous. Beyond extremely well built. I'm disabled now, but I helped an ex build furniture and a shed and remodel my home. I started out at 11 helping my Mom build a porch. It's the most satisfying job I've done. Other than cooking for my family. I'm stuck in an apartment now, wishing I had my own tiny home, sitting on a wilderness acre somewhere. I enjoyed your show. I hope others would agree that we would rather wait longer for great videos like this and the rest of the house so long as you’re taking care of yourself. You only have one body after all so please treat it well! Hopefully you get better soon. This said, I am immensely enjoying this build series. I have been wanting to build a tiny house myself for a long time and seeing what you and others do, how you build them and what your thought processes are is so amazing and insightful to a girl who has barely touched any power tools. You guys make me wanna learn so I can build things myself and make things that suit my personal tastes that I can’t find on the standard market. Small projects first to build up your skills and feel comfortable using your tools. There are TH-cam channels on tool use. And Rockler Woodworking and Hardware has classes. Morvaz, never wait; start with tiny birdhouses. Just start doing what you love. Life is amazing, so don't wait to do the things you love to do. I'm a girl, well, an old one now, I never waited, and now I have experience in just about everything. Except for being an astronaut. LOL
Just do what you want to do. You are the only one stopping you. Your first few (hell even 1000) projects can be utter crap but as long as you enjoy doing it, then that is all that matters. I'm a guy buy grew up trying to make everything I do perfect and was miserable as soon as I just started jumping into the stuff I enjoyed life got a whole lot better. I wish you luck on your journey!

Drew, the breaks aren't an issue, rather a few days to a week, than overworking the injury into something more severe. Progress is looking insane, and the rest of the build will be just as amazing. Kudos mate, you've outdone yourself with this project so far.

Welcome back to YT... I sympathize with your shoulder pain. I was grimacing with you even before your mention of the problem and PT resolution. This is an amazing journey. One observation: grounding to a gas line may have seemed expedient but is DANGEROUS. add another grounding clamp to the pipe just outside the tiny house.. when you move to your final destination drive a copper rod into the physical ground and connect it to the exterior grounding strap. I think he's fine as the switchboard earth bar should be connected to the mains earth but having a secondary earth point doesn't seem a bad idea and Drew definitely should get an electrician to double check anyway
I have no interest in carpentry or living in a tiny home but I really enjoy watching something being built from the ground up. You're the only one on TH-cam who does in depth videos during your builds and that's extremely helpful in understanding what's going on. I know a lot of people interested in pursuing projects of their own also appreciate your in depth explanations. Looking forward to the rest of the build!

Drew im a licensed plumber and i gotta tell you we dont ever just use one or the other. So you were right in using both teraflop and pipe dope. Especially for gas. Definitely should have done the same for the shower valve. Basically any threaded pipe and fitting should take both. The only exception is pvc to pvc but even then i still use both.
My dad is letting me turn the attic space over my bedroom into a loft room and I feel like the process will be very similar to the process in this video. I'm glad I watched this! It helped me figure out some of the things I'll need to research so I can plan and budget 😁

I love that your channel has gone from "Here's a cool fire pit" to "Here's my (soon to be) fully functional, livable, tiny home on wheels. My favorite bit is that everything you do is really cool and seems really complex and difficult, yet you condense it into an easy to consume video that makes anyone feel like they could do what you do. I've done a ton of construction in the past and did not enjoy it, but you make it look incredibly appealing and fun and it makes me wish I still did it
You have built something absolutely amazing and a testament to craftsmanship. I will recommend insulating those wires that are routed through the beams with some type of jacket sleeve. Even if they're wrapped from the manufacturer you can never be too safe with wire routed in sawdust. TY for sharing your journey!

This was great. Hope you are feeling better. As someone with ripped disks and very very poor joints. Would recommend drywall sander for over head sanding or high sanding. It is basically just a sander on an extension. Allows you to hold it like a pool cleaning net. Works amazing. Love the quick and quality of your videos. Quite nice to watch. Makes me wish I could go out and do any of this but, have ran out of time in my life. Wonderful work!

afaik he has a dog but no cats - he has a previous video where he built his dog an outdoor, heated, dog house for over the winter because he/she likes to be outside.
@@MaxRide1 Thanks, I saw the heated doghouse video. In a tiny house it's probably better to have a small pet like a cat. Cats love to sit or lay in front of windows especially if they are indoor cats so that's why I was hoping that Drew would include at least two window sills for the cat to sit on or lay down on. I don't have a cat but I bet whoever buys this tiny house will already have a cat or want to get a cat. Whoever buys it will probably be a single person or a young couple without any kids so in the meantime they will probably want a pet, a small pet, probably a cat. I'm just guessing.

you have made such an amazing work. handling with this all alone, getting ur shoulder hurt, the scar above ur hand, and bruise on ur nails, thats just, too much effort and it turned out so good. i like the oil looking roof, natural looking was fine but oil looking one far better to me. im looking forward for bathroom, loft and furnishing. i watchen both of ur videos every single second. i love love love it! hope u recover soon.

I love the detail of thought that went into this. I grew up in the trades and home building and it is truly a skill to be able to envision the build and plan ahead. It looks really nice. A rule I learned about flooring is that you always start with the longest run. So the flooring should run down the length of the building. This minimizes the chance of getting off of straight.
LOVE THE OIL! Just a much richer color. And I love the white overlapping panel on the walls. So much better then painting. Very nice. The foam was a lot more intensive then I expected. But it looks like it'll be warm/cool. The window trim turned out nice as well. It all looks clean, neat, and tight. LOVE the flooring. It brings it all together. I'm a 65 yr old woman who has dreamed of doing a tiny home myself. But I wouldnt have a clue, or equipment to even get started. And I'm terrible with measuring! 😳😥🙄Just so cool to watch though! Thanks for sharing! P.S. I LOVE THE OUTSIDE LIGHTS!
Love these videos. Used dowell cutting lots before. Best finish I find is to PVA and sand over and use sawdust over wood filler. Much quicker to sand afterwards and a cleaner finish.
Always a pleasure to catch up on your builds , the oiled finish is always the way to go, that grain just pops out. Can't wait to see final house finish.

I have a little trick when I am using spackle, for smaller holes, and patching. I put it either with my finger, or a putty knife. I wait till it starts to set, and wipe it with a damp clean cloth. It smooths the surface, and I rarely have to do any sanding, unless its a bigger spot. I think this might work great on wood putty, and would save your shoulders from all that pain. I agree that sanding the pieces of wood, before putting them in, would have been easier for you as well.

Morvaz, never wait; start with tiny birdhouses. Just start doing what you love. Life is amazing, so don't wait to do the things you love to do. I'm a girl, well, an old one now, I never waited, and now I have experience in just about everything. Except for being an astronaut. LOL
Just do what you want to do. You are the only one stopping you. Your first few (hell even 1000) projects can be utter crap but as long as you enjoy doing it, then that is all that matters. I'm a guy buy grew up trying to make everything I do perfect and was miserable as soon as I just started jumping into the stuff I enjoyed life got a whole lot better. I wish you luck on your journey!

Welcome back to YT... I sympathize with your shoulder pain. I was grimacing with you even before your mention of the problem and PT resolution. This is an amazing journey. One observation: grounding to a gas line may have seemed expedient but is DANGEROUS. add another grounding clamp to the pipe just outside the tiny house.. when you move to your final destination drive a copper rod into the physical ground and connect it to the exterior grounding strap. Gas and electricity are a deadly combination.

I think he's fine as the switchboard earth bar should be connected to the mains earth but having a secondary earth point doesn't seem a bad idea and Drew definitely should get an electrician to double check anyway
I have no interest in carpentry or living in a tiny home but I really enjoy watching something being built from the ground up. You're the only one on TH-cam who does in depth videos during your builds and that's extremely helpful in understanding what's going on. I know a lot of people interested in pursuing projects of their own also appreciate your in depth explanations. Looking forward to the rest of the build!
The amount of work this man put in to make this video available for us to watch for free is amazing. Video editing alone take hours upon hours but recording all the content made what he is doing take twice as long. Constantly moving the camera sound to get angles etc… props bro

Drew im a licensed plumber and i gotta tell you we dont ever just use one or the other. So you were right in using both teraflop and pipe dope. Especially for gas. Definitely should have done the same for the shower valve. Basically any threaded pipe and fitting should take both. The only exception is pvc to pvc but even then i still use both.
The camera work is spectacular on the beauty shots. The tiny house is amazing dude, you should be proud.
My dad is letting me turn the attic space over my bedroom into a loft room and I feel like the process will be very similar to the process in this video. I'm glad I watched this! It helped me figure out some of the things I'll need to research so I can plan and budget 😁

I love that your channel has gone from "Here's a cool fire pit" to "Here's my (soon to be) fully functional, livable, tiny home on wheels. My favorite bit is that everything you do is really cool and seems really complex and difficult, yet you condense it into an easy to consume video that makes anyone feel like they could do what you do. I've done a ton of construction in the past and did not enjoy it, but you make it look incredibly appealing and fun and it makes me wish I still did it

You have built something absolutely amazing and a testament to craftsmanship. I will recommend insulating those wires that are routed through the beams with some type of jacket sleeve. Even if they're wrapped from the manufacturer you can never be too safe with wire routed in sawdust. TY for sharing your journey!

As someone with ripped disks and very very poor joints.
Would recommend drywall sander for over head sanding or high sanding. It is basically just a sander on an extension. Allows you to hold it like a pool cleaning net. Works amazing.

afaik he has a dog but no cats - he has a previous video where he built his dog an outdoor, heated, dog house for over the winter because he/she likes to be outside.
@@MaxRide1 Thanks, I saw the heated doghouse video. In a tiny house it's probably better to have a small pet like a cat. Cats love to sit or lay in front of windows especially if they are indoor cats so that's why I was hoping that Drew would include at least two window sills for the cat to sit on or lay down on. I don't have a cat but I bet whoever buys this tiny house will already have a cat or want to get a cat. Whoever buys it will probably be a single person or a young couple without any kids so in the meantime they will probably want a pet, a small pet, probably a cat. I'm just guessing.

you have made such an amazing work. handling with this all alone, getting ur shoulder hurt, the scar above ur hand, and bruise on ur nails, thats just, too much effort and it turned out so good. i like the oil looking roof, natural looking was fine but oil looking one far better to me. im looking forward for bathroom, loft and furnishing. i watchen both of ur videos every single second. i love love love it! hope u recover soon.

I love the detail of thought that went into this. I grew up in the trades and home building and it is truly a skill to be able to envision the build and plan ahead. Putting in the wires for potential future solar was a smart move. Side note, the production quality and through coverage of yoir build process is really impressive. Congrats.

It looks really nice. A rule I learned about flooring is that you always start with the longest run. So the flooring should run down the length of the building. This minimizes the chance of getting off of straight.
LOVE THE OIL! Just a much richer color. And I love the white overlapping panel on the walls. So much better then painting. Very nice. The foam was a lot more intensive then I expected. But it looks like it'll be warm/cool. The window trim turned out nice as well. It all looks clean, neat, and tight. LOVE the flooring. It brings it all together. I'm a 65 yr old woman who has dreamed of doing a tiny home myself. But I wouldnt have a clue, or equipment to even get started. And I'm terrible with measuring! 😳😥🙄Just so cool to watch though! Thanks for sharing! P.S. I LOVE THE OUTSIDE LIGHTS!

Love these videos. Used dowell cutting lots before. Best finish I find is to PVA and sand over and use sawdust over wood filler. Much quicker to sand afterwards and a cleaner finish.

I have a little trick when I am using spackle, for smaller holes, and patching. I put it either with my finger, or a putty knife. I wait till it starts to set, and wipe it with a damp clean cloth. It smooths the surface, and I rarely have to do any sanding, unless its a bigger spot. I think this might work great on wood putty, and would save your shoulders from all that pain. I agree that sanding the pieces of wood, before putting them in, would have been easier for you as well.
