I just finished reading a book about Sid, written as a collection of stories about his life. And what i read in those pages gave me a deep inner sadness. I read about a 21-year-old boy, introverted, desperate for attention and love, immature and probably depressed. So he hid behind the figure of Sid Vicious, with the intention of finally being accepted and being "interesting" in some way that was not natural to him. He was playing a part, as an actor would. But he felt deeply alone. And then he got absorbed in his own character. It's a book i recommend (well, i'm italian, the title here is "A modo mio - La tragica parabola di Sid Vicious" written by Marco Di Eugenio, don't know if it's available worldwide). He wasn't different than a 21-year-old boy filled with anger and a desire to rebel, but he went too far. Like John Simon Ritchie wasn't enough for him, like he thought he needed Sid Vicious to feel better. In this video we get a glimpse of the real John. I like his smile. The smile of a young and sad boy who doesn't know how to save himself, but would like to.

It’s sad what the government and media did to musicians, especially in the past. There are some good stories like when Keith Richards got busted for heroine possession (could have been planted, that what Keith says, but he was still a junkie at the time) and he had no more get out of jail free cards left. But, luckily the Canadian judge he had was a decent human so instead of sending Keith to prison for 20 years and probably the end of The Rolling Stones, the judge had the stones do a free concert for the blind and Keith had to go to rehab and get clean. So that judge literally saved Keith’s ass. The rest of the story for those who haven’t read his book which is excellent, the story goes that there was this blind girl who hitch hiked across country to go to the stones concerts, so when Keith would see her he would make arrangements for her to get a ride to the next show and basically look after her. When she heard Keith was in serious trouble, she went to the Judges house and told him what Keith had done for her. Thus, that’s where the judge ordered free concert for the blind. So it takes a good person doing a nice thing for someone and then karma comes back around, sometimes. I think all of the planets have to be aligned for that to happen because it’s too far and few between. A great example of the planets all being unaligned for a disaster was the day Kurt Cobain met Courtney Love, and from that day on Kurt was a walking dead man.
