Justin Vernon & St. Vincent perform "Rosyln" during MusicNOW 2010 in Cincinnati, Ohio. This song originally appeared on the Twilight New Moon Motion Picture Soundtrack.
I've decided to just put it out of mind how many good songs were used in the twilight movies. I've never seen any of them, But my friends hear I like a certain song and they go "ew that was on twilight" and I'm just like well shit man, If I went around disliking bands because their songs were in bad movies I'd have nothing left to listen to.
The twilight movies aren't cinematic masterpieces but the only REALLY bad one was the first one. The others were okay for what they were. They weren't trying to pretend to be cinematic masterpieces lol. The soundtracks are amazing anyways. i'm to the point where if I find out something was on any of those movie's soundtracks I just assume it's going to be good lmao
Not a huge fan of Twilight. but.. i GOTTA ADMIT. twilight and the rest of the sagas.. have really beautiful songs :) just like this and eclipse's "my love" by sia. listening to them i get goosebumps. I LOVE THEM :)
this is getting real weird cause I just checked my notifications on here for the first time in a while and someone else left the same comment on another video lol
if twilight soundtracks are what it takes to help otherwise hopeless people understand and know "quality" just a little bit better, than so be it. as a fan of bon iver and st vincent and grizzly bear and beach house, i actually love twilight for bringing great artists together to collaborate when they might not otherwise. i'll never read the books or watch the movies because they're shit, but twilight is okay in my books for the music alone.
coming to you 6 years later but, the twilight movies are worth watching. is the plot a little odd? sure! acting a little bad? sure! but the cinematography matched with the soundtrack honestly elevated the series. at least watch the first one, as an adult with an open mind, you might find them a little enjoyable
@@Aaron-fb6mb idk about Amanda, but I had just turned 18 and started college. It brings back good memories of just hanging out with my best friends after school and being careless and free.
It's about suicide and jumping from something, like a cliff, and how whoever the person is, is most likely not the most outgoing person and how its up with their turrets like they are on the defense, and how this feeling just keeps pulling him/her outward (undertow) and the dont let it fool you down, and the wings wouldnt help you down makes it seem like its almost this persons fault like an angel or something couldnt save this sorry soul
I miss seeing the movies for the first time. I remember going to the midnight premier screening with my sister, lining up with so many others. It was magical! Glad to have experienced it :) I was only like 16-17 maybe at the time, feels like so long ago now
+Salvador Balrog Justin changes the strings for this version. He restrung his G string with a B string. There is a way to play it without re-stringing your guitar and a capo on the first fret if you are interested in that.
I wish I could listen to this song in its entirety but my heart already starts breaking 15 seconds into it and 2010 was a shit year as is this one. Thank God for her self-titled because it's the only thing keeping me afloat.
when I heard the song for the first time, I immediately fell in love with this song, but at the same time I fell in love with a girl for the first time in my life .It's been a few years but still, when I hear this song, I feel very strange, happy but also a feeling I can't describe.
Repent now and trust Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior please🥰 John 3:13 for God so loved the world that he gave his one and only son that whoever believes in him should not perish but have everlasting life!😇❤❗
What really pisses me off is that I can't buy the song without the whole fucking new moon soundtrack and that breaks my heart becuase it's fifteen dollars for one song:( anyways this is my lullaby
I bought the entire album just for this song because it is probably in my top 5 favorite songs of all time and I had to have it! But I ended up liking a few other songs on the soundtrack too so that's good lol
+Esdz679 there are like two songs that I like, but I'm still iffy about. Maybe I will haha I know that this isn't generally the place to ask but songs did you like most?
I totally agree I couldn't find the song on its own either so had to buy the new moon album just for it which I didn't like as it's the only song I like - it's just beautiful. One of my favourites. ❤️❤️
I don't get it when people talk about lyrics that don't appear to make objective sense and say that they mean whatever each person who reads them wants them to mean. Load of crap. Justin Vernon wrote these lyrics with some deliberate meaning, so they make sense to him. It's just not easy to see what that meaning is. Beautiful song in any case.
@Kasparas and ***** It sounds like some sort of envelope effect that slows the attack of the guitar. You play the note and it slowly swells up, so you lose the fast attack a guitar normally has and it becomes more like a keyboard/synth. The same effect can be had by just hitting the note with volume on the guitar at 0 then raising the volume after the note begins ringing. Of course there is reverb on top of that, plus a little extra gain.
I could see her waiting to come in with the *boooowwwooowww* and I was like "Do it! Do it, already!!' and then she did it and I fainted. THAT'S how awesome this song is
weird that they call justin vernon by name but not annie... whatever her last name is... anyway i love the song and its cool to see live. i always thought the electric guitar part was either computerized effects or some strange horn instrument... it makes for a unique collaboration. acoustic strumming with heavy guitar effect overtoning... cool beans
It sounds like she's using lots of gain, lots of verb and a steel slide to get that tone also a volume pedal for the swells. The main tone comes from the steel slide though ! The volume pedal and the verb give it the ambient sound. This is just a guess though !
@chrishipop5 Dude, all respect to Justin Vernon (mm I'm a huge fan and I'd make lots of babies with him) but go listen to some of Annie's work. She's a fuckin' genius and can SLAY on the guitar.

st Vincent should do more music like this
Yeah I agree although I like the verses in cheerleader.
While I agree that I'd like to hear more like Roslyn, I adore St. Vincent's music nonetheless.
man, i have goosebumps w/ this live. truly beautiful.
For anyone who has not seen St Vincent perform "These Days," search now!
Just watching her sing is part of the experience
She’s fantastic, she has way too much talent not to be making music like this tbh
