I can feel the words here. I walked around my childhood wood two years ago and the memes blindsided me. Can't say I wish to walk there again, just too many ghosts of the past, and of those that have left us too soon.
The solo that starts at 3:12 is really one of the most underrated pieces of guitar I've ever heard. Almost never do you hear a solo that is completely melodic, and useful for building any emotional tension. Such a beautiful piece of guitar work.
They rely on it 100%. In their lives performances they involve the audience in the music making too. Truly cathartic to scream or sing your guts out whilst they provide the space and encourage your participation. This band is a great example of why I value emotive artists over technical ones. Just breath taking.
This is when “the band” hit their groove. Much like Kevin of tame impala, Justin can mastermind a piece or performance. But these performances where he gets lost in the music and sound he’s built with others help is utterly beautiful.
Its just a bummer that in 2008, I was too young (8) to realize what wonderful music really sounds like. I would give everything to hear him live at least for one time. He is a genius and has alreay helped me through some tough times.
heard this song 6 years ago after a 6 year relationship. Slept on an Airbnb and i couldnt keep myself to the bed so i slept on the couch. Following day i went to see Bon Iver and Jason Vernon took my breath and heart away.
magnificent, again. i want to listen to every version of every song he's created. everytime he plays his songs he puts a totally unique spin on them, so each time it's different but just as perfect. THAT takes talent.
life lesson number one... DO NOT hurt Bon Iver. because he will make a beautiful song about it and you (along with the rest of the world) will never forgive yourself for it, but at the same time feel completely comforted by the soothing sound of his babymaking voice... that is all
Back down, down to the downtown Down to the lock down, boards, nails lie around I crouch like a crow Contrasting the snow For the agony, I'd rather know Cause blinded I am blindsided Peek in, into the peer in I'm not really like this, I'm probably plightless I cup the window I'm crippled and slow For the agony I'd rather know Cause blinded I am blindsided Would you really rush out for me now? Taught line, down to the shoreline The end of a blood line, the moon is a cold light There's a pull to the flow My feet melt the snow For the irony, I'd rather know Cause blinded I was blindsided
there aren't many people who can make silence in a song beautiful. he manages to fill the emptiness in the song SOOO full of feeling....sigh! its amazing!
This is actually my favourite Bon Iver performance ever. The only thing coming close is that performance of Skinny Love on Jools. But, wowza. This is just brilliant. And the mate who stated that this was 'disarming' completely bulls-eyed this. This is brilliant.
this is one of those songs that you just want to continue forever.... i hate when it ends :( ... bon iver is amazing and im so glad i started listening to them, finally some real music!
as i was waiting on the video to load, i looked through the comments and noticed how everyone sounded like they were so in awe. i thought they might be overrating it because i couldnt remember the last single-take i'd seen that was really touching. mannn, was i wrong. bon iver is the best thing that's happened to me this summer
love it...love the guitar work..love the arrangement....love the lyrics...i love the fact that i go dizzy with the wall of sound that it builds...breaks down...and then builds again....
listening to this song for the frst time in four years. I can almost see the rain falling consistenly on the bus I used to take everyday at 6.50 a.m. and the weary people hopping on and off at the stops
These guys are so awesome! You can see how much energy and how much feelings they in their music. And that is exactly what I feel when I listen to them so much positive energy so much love! We just want a new album Mr. Vernon..
how beautiful is that song ... never regreted knowing this band! i love every single song, they have smth special.. and its too bad GOOD music is always hidden, and known by few of us
@cactusfarm I thought it was a custom jazzmaster at first but I recognize the brand's symbol now thanks to you ! This guitar sounds awesome, the sound is so round and warm.
If I saw The National and Bon Iver together doing a secret jam session for hours on end with drinks and a great chair. I could then visit my passed dad in heaven...
yea i agree i play guitar and sing aswell and john mayer has been one of my biggest inspirations he is an amazing guitarist and vocalist ! i have just recently discovered bon iver and he is definately one of my favorite artists now.. this is what music is all about, so much emotion in his songs ! if your gonna diss anyone it should be people like kesha and down with webster and all that other top 40 bullshit that youth is getting brainwashed with... makes me sick!
This aged like fine wine. Stunning.
I was wondering why the havarti I'm eating tastes so rich...
Listening to this while raindrops fall on my bedroom window.. there are no words to describe the feeling
I can feel the words here. I walked around my childhood wood two years ago and the memes blindsided me. Can't say I wish to walk there again, just too many ghosts of the past, and of those that have left us too soon.
Well this is me right now.
It's just me or the line "my feet melt the snow" is the most beautiful line in the whole song?
I cannot even state how much I appreciate Bon Iver. I just love love their music.
i still feel that way another 4 albums later

@@FionnCr what
i come back here every once in a while you know, always with something different
The album is so well produced, yet so raw at the same time. He had such pure vision when he wrote it.
I played this album for a few weeks nonstop in my car after my dad passed on. It really helped
Bon Iver just make me fall wildly in love with life.
Feeling very sad and emotional with tears on my pillow while, stumbling upon this “moving piece” of music and Justin’s phenomenal melodic voice... 😢💫😥
With so few elements, he takes us on a sonic journey that lasts 7 minutes but feels like seconds!! Pure genius.
exactly!!!
amazing artist.
hope I have the opportunity to see him live someday
That riff at 3:26 is one of the most tasteful lines of guitar solo I've ever hear. I'm speechless...
I can't believe its been almost 4 years since I saw this performance, and it changed my life
Part of my soul, eternally.
+Daina Imperiale definitely!

@@EthanTheMighty doesn't mean their touring near him.
It is astounding that there are only 39,000 hits on this. If there were millions, the world would be a better place.
how can someone NOT like this song? so beautiful
They'll come round. Some songs aren't fully comprehended at first listen
Listening to this during quarantine makes me miss 2008 even more
heard this song 6 years ago after a 6 year relationship. Slept on an Airbnb and i couldnt keep myself to the bed so i slept on the couch. Following day i went to see Bon Iver and Jason Vernon took my breath and heart away.
"down to the lock down."....
he predicted the future like he works for the simpsons or something
I dream of watching him play live one day and singing with him.
+amirahlee I looked at his website, he's touring east asia at the moment.
+amirahlee yep, he blew me away when I saw him at Bonnaroo '12... had no idea who he was until he came on -- amazing experience, as 3oe91 says

I absolutely love this version, so raw, beautiful and emotional. Justin's voice is one of a kind
I keep playing this version on repeat. Such a masterpiece even now, after all these years. Timeless talent
2019 and my hair is still rises every goddam time i'm listening Bon Iver
I still can't believe something so beautiful like this can exist.

bon iver and matt corby are the two most unique and beautiful sounds of the 21st century
Well said
minus matt corby
*keaton Henson and Ben Howard also
max birch who’s Matt corby? More like Ben Howard
Back down, down to the downtown
Down to the lock down, boards, nails lie around
I crouch like a crow
Contrasting the snow
For the agony, I'd rather know
Cause blinded I am blindsided
Peek in, into the peer in
I'm not really like this, I'm probably plightless
I cup the window
I'm crippled and slow
For the agony
I'd rather know
Cause blinded I am blindsided
Would you really rush out for me now?
Taught line, down to the shoreline
The end of a blood line, the moon is a cold light
There's a pull to the flow
My feet melt the snow
For the irony, I'd rather know
Cause blinded I was blindsided
Thank you Joana! Xo
